Looks like the final roster for SECRET AVENGERS by Brubaker has been revealed. The new costume for Steve is getting mixed responses and harks back to the Fighting American costume. I'm glad to see Nova in there (my 2nd favorite character after Cap) as long as it doesn't pull him away from his regular book.

Blah.....The outfit itself is not what bothers me.....it's Deodato drawing this. I've never really gotten why people like him. Ever since he did Wonder Woman years ago I have not cared for him.

I really dig this line-up, so long has it been since Moonknight and Beast been on an Avengers team, plus the addition of Nova will be complete awesomeness. __________________"--When the mob and the Press and the whole WORLD tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world 'No you move'."

do we have confirmation that this is steve Rogers?
The reason I ask is that costume looks very familiar to me.
That could be John Walker in an updated Super Patriot outfit.

Could be Walker but I think in order to differentiate Rogers and Walker from each other when not in costume, Marvel has always done Rogers with a bit longer hair and wavy vs. Walker has always had a crew cut.
Obviously that is not 100% mean it's a done deal but I do recall hearing something that Rogers would be involved in Secret Avengers.
Ticks me off cause I normally like buying Marvel books with Cap/Rogers in them.....so now I'd get Cap, Avengers and Secret Avengers? I don't want to have to.....might still only get Avengers and Cap.

ooo, I am not diggin on that costume. If he's going from the coolest costume in all of comic books to that very lackluster get-up... Ed Brubaker better write the shit outta this book. He seems a bit awkward w/o his shield.

Well truth be told, I went to Walker for two reasons 1) when last scene he was fighting without a mask, as he had been banned form wearing a mask by Osborn.
And 2) the Costume does seem to resemble the old Supe Patriot Costume.
As a side note, with no official release of this image by Marvel, and no statement from CBR, I'd say this could or could not be the line up, and really there is no way to know that's steve.
Aside from John Walker, it could also be, Clay Quartermain, Hank Pym, or even Wiliam Burnside.
All we can see is he's blond, since there is no one face of Cap, it could be anybody.
Now don't get me wrong if Bucky is going to continue as the Main Cap, then i'm glad to see steve in a book, but I don't know if I really see him in a costume like that.
Really, I'd be more inclinde to think that was Steve if he was in the Sheild Jump Suit we saw him in in the Annual.
also, I don't know if I could see Steve Operating without a Shield. Sure he did it as Nomad, but it's such a part of him, I don't know if we would go into battle like that. Even as the Captain he used a differnt Shield. And when his Shield broke, he used that energy shield.
So, yeah, until I read in an official release that this is Steve Rogers, I'm going to be suspicious.

*sigh* Okay, here we go again. I know a lot of you guys are really into Bucky and all, and thats great, but am I the only one sick of them screwing around with Steve? MAKE HIM CAP! Jeez. Stop putting him in all this other crap and give him the shield. What really gripes me is that im just like Rod92905, does this mean I have to buy 3 books to get all the Cap stuff? My blood pressures skyrocketing with this junk.

I agree about the whole Steve/Cap thing. Put him back in as Cap without some crisis ie. Buck getting wounded seriously. Just return Steve to the Cap role and let Buck go back to the Winter Soldier look. Buck is IMO a more interesting character this way without all the soul searching of if Cap should carry and use weapons. He'd be a nice strong supporting character for the Cap book, an agent of Fury's or his own title. Heck even make him an Avenger.

"Put him back in as Cap without some crisis ie. Buck getting wounded seriously"
Why so we can all return to the standard M.O.? Like it or not, Bucky is playing Captain America well and the sales are just as good. Unlike Ben Reilly as the Amazing Spider-man, sales are up for Captain America. __________________"--When the mob and the Press and the whole WORLD tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world 'No you move'."

By the way, Steve is in the picture, see this newsarama article. So no Walker, quit talking about it.

Well the question just got answered. Newsarama poted an article early this morning that it IS Steve Rogers in the new costume. Heres the link to the Newsarama article:

I guess I can live with Steve Rogers Super Soldier. Though I figure that it really seems like it would be a better role for Bucky, but I guess that's all a part of Cap's visions of the future.

You know...I'm wondering now, if this new Super Soldier Uniform is what Cap eventually winds up in in the movie?
Hmm....that'd make some sense to integrate that costume into the books here.

It is a big deviation from the classic uniform we are all used to but add a mask? and I think it would work.
Even without a mask, I'd be ok with it. But I doubt they'd do it without a mask

Well without a shield, he kinda needs something. So a pistol is not a bad idea. __________________"--When the mob and the Press and the whole WORLD tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world 'No you move'."

This is great. This costume looks better here than on the Secret Avengers cover. As a fan, we're treated to 2 Captain America books again.
I suppose anyone working on the Cap books for a long time would eventually do a Non-Cap adventure. Lee and Kirby had that Cap retires series in the Suspense books, Englehart had Nomad and Gruenwald had the Captain.
My only concern is another Rebirth serum muck-a-muck which Gruenwald sort of done to death during his run. Anyway, this might bring back those Marvel's UK books like Knights of the Pendragon and that Super Soldier series that was really a variation of Van Damme's Universal Soldier thing (Cap and USagent had cameo appearances in that book).

This costume is growing on me. I know....it's only been a day. But seeing Pacheco's cover art and knowing Englesham is doing the art for the mini excites me. I loved his art in JSA.
But it doesn't mean I'll buy Secret Avengers. I'll read it every month at my local Hastings and maybe even get the trade paperback one day later when it's collected but I am really turned off to Deodato. Story telling will have to be top notch for me to also buy Secret Avengers just because of Steve.

This,if not keeps me, pushes me even more to stick to my opinion. Steve with a gun? Right now I don`t even see why they bothered bringing him back from the dead. They`ve turned him from the best character in the Marvel U to a third wheel. Say what you want and im glad you guys like and support what you believe in, but don`t expect me to not stand up for what I do and to fall in with it. I think this new set-up sucks.

Do what you like, Ping. I've just been reading comics long enough to know that nothing is permanent. At some point, they always go back to what people are use to, which seems to make sense to do it by the movie. So, until then, I just enjoy the ride.
Regarding Steve with a gun. I know this doesn't always sit right with some fans but here is how I justify it.
Throw out the "I've never killled with a gun" 1980s Gruenwald story. It was flawed to start with (Cap killed during WWII). Brubaker has stated he thought it was a terrible idea and I think so too. He's not Batman, who has a reason to avoid guns.
Think of this costume less as a Fighting American knock and as a variation of the S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform and it makes sense. Brubaker's stories, along with the TALES OF SUSPENSE stories from the 1960s, always had a spy element to them so a gun fits in that world. __________________

I certainly hope it ain`t permanent. I get what you`re saying and I hope you`re right. Ijust hope they`re not too long on the timeframe before it happens.

Look Pingclang, nobody is expecting you to do anything. You like most of the fanatics here will keep buying abscure relics with Captain America logos and action figures to fulfill your childhood adult fantasies. __________________"--When the mob and the Press and the whole WORLD tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world 'No you move'."

It's not like it is a bad costume it just looks like a rip off from Iron Man, no. personally they could make a few adjustments...cross that out, a lot of changes. I don't like it, take it from a guy that wants Ultimate Cap costume for the movie...

I really have no problem with Steve using a gun again. In the original Captain America Comics (from the 1940s), he used a gun all the time. It wasn't until he got the current disc-shield (he had a kite shield originally) that he could use as a ranged weapon, that he gave up the gun because he didn't need it anymore.

I also wouldn't mind the Ultimate uniform for the movie. I think the Ultimate WWII uniform woudl be awesome for the 1st part of the movie....then after being defrosted, he can have the new one.
I wonder if the movie will be all pre-being frozen in ice water or will it cover both eras.
I guess the whole gun thing for me is that if I'm not mistaken....Cap is not crazy about killing everybody like Punisher and such.
During WWII, I'd have been a bit more ok with it but since it is not the norm for him, it just seems out of character. I was never completely sold in the Grunewald no killing thing from the 80s but with Cap's strong sense of honer, I'd think that he'd always do his best to try and not kill somebody unless completely necessary. Carrying a gun around just seems odd to me.
