Actually, Cap didn't use a gun all the time before he got his circular shield. Unless you are talking about any retro continuity stories, Sardaukar. He only had one issue with the triangular shield and I don't see any gun as part of Cap's costume.  I might have seen a side pistol for 1990's ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN AMERICA though.

However, I think there are later stories where he uses one. Not as part of his costume but as part of the story where he uses one found in the setting. For instance, there is a story in #10 (January 1942) where he takes a Nazi's machine gun and mounts it to the front of his motorcycle.

But as Private Steve Rogers in the Army, during guard duty, he carried a rifle many times.

Ping-They are still making lots of Cap merchandise with the classic costume. It WILL be back. This new costume is just to shake it up for awhile and maybe sell a few more toys.

Just enjoy it while you can.  If Steve Rogers: Super Soldier doesn't sell or raised ire and hatred from the comic community, he can always go back to Cap.

At the end of Reborn, there's mention of a coming apocalypse, so after that run and the dust settles, Rogers would go back to Cap, most likely when a new writer comes aboard and begins a new relaunch.

I read somewhere there's plan for a mini series on the Golden age Patriot's tour of duty as Captain America.  I'm looking forward to that and the reto story to explain why he quit the hero business in 1949 and his views on the 1953-55 Cap.

I wonder if the movie will be all pre-being frozen in ice water or will it cover both eras.

From what I've heard, the movie is bookended with him being found frozen in the ice, meaning 1: They discover his frozen body, 2: They show his story (all WWII from what I've heard), and 3: They thaw him out just in time for the Avengers film.

Took this into photoshop out of curiosity. I definatly think a mask of some sort would improve the look. I actually really like his new outfit. It's cool! A mask would definatly work tho. I think they should give him a sheild as well. for no other reason than he so highly trained with it. I don't think it would be intrusive on cap to give him one.

Whats the point of a mask if everyone knows who you are? Don't you think somebody running around in these colors is already going to be suspected to be a captain america?

no point. it looks cool. everyone knew he was cap yet he wore a mask. no difference.

I think the mask looks cool, I could definately see it as an alternate costume thing, kinda like Thor's gloves in the new Avengers series.

Sorry, I don't like the no-mask thingy, put a mask on him and I'll be fine. It's a cool costume, it just needs a cool helmet...

I prefer the costume without a mask.

He's Steve Rogers not Gimpy McGimpington.

I really like this new costume actually. I'd be happy for it to be permanent or at least his look for quite a while.

I wish someone would design a modern mask/helmet that doesn't look dorky. That way you justify the mask as protection. I think the costume is fine if you can just get the mask right.

You can tell by what stitches has done that the full and regular cap mask would still work. I'm sorry, but the mask is just classic even with the dorky wings and the ridiculous A. I know. I've tried for years to draw a better version, and nothing works.

Well, tar and feather me.  I like the whole idea.  Picked up 1st Secret Avengers.  Steve Rogers personified.  All recruited are trying not to let this man down for giving them a chance AND he gets his hands dirty to set an example.  As with martial arts its not the style but the man.  Same goes for uniforms.  Its the man.  Also, ironic that I picked the chat room name of "Captain Rogers" 2 years ago.  Buckys ok w/me and Steve now gets to operate without the preconceptions of the CA uniform.  Interesting road ahead.

Hi there, new here. Can anyone point me to a TIMELINE for the Death Of and Reborn events? One that might clear up the more confusing stuff... Thanks.

Like stiches75's take on the new Cap/Rogers as I feel a mask of some type is needed. Here is a furtther variation of the image that also includes a shield. Might be heading back to the days of "The Captain" (not a fan of), but I feel it's an improvement on the apparent current design.

I really like the new costume design I hope Marvel doesn't change anything but the ugly goally boots.

I think they have definitely proven the point that Captain America isn't just one man, as much as he is one idea.

I actually love the design in it's entirety. Been an old school Cap fan since I was a kid. Love Steve being Cap but I think this new direction is a great way to keep it fresh.

Could think of hundreds of other ways they could have screwed this up.

Way back when Cap died and Osborn became the head of HAMMER. I told a buddy that it be perfect if Steve came back, Bucky stayed as Cap and Steve took over as the new "Nick Fury". So I am very excited over this.

This is the only thing that Quesada has approved in his tenure at Marvel that I have agreed with.

agree with james totally!

I wonder what other concept art was made when designing the Steve Rogers Super Soldier design. When the Bleeding Edge Armor(see Invincible Iron Man #25) was conceived, there were many different looks that it could have been.

I am curious to see what it could have looked like.

The only problem I can see is that without his shield Steve runs a serious risk of being shot at, reflexively throwing up his arm to deflect the bullet, then have a "D'oh!" moment as the bullet hits him.

He's been fighting with the shield for most of his career.

This is also shades of an old What If. What if Captain America was an agent of Shield?

Just read Secret Avengers 2, looks like he does have an energy shield.

I love being surprised at a comic store finding a variant cover I had never seen before....and at $1.99 to top it off. I found these 2nd printings of Steve Rogers Super Soldier #1 and #2
