Just read this bit on the Newsarama page. Here's the link:  http://www.newsarama.com/comics/Evans-Captain-America-100322.html

If this turns out to be true, I won't be disappointed as he is very familiar with the Marvel comics films And his portrayal as Johnny Storm was spot on.

I actually would be really disappointed. Although not as much if someone like Channing Tatum was Cap. Sure he would be fine if he just ran around in the suit beating on people the whole movie but I can not at all picture him as Steve(but I can't really picture anyone as Steve). So far the Marvel Studios movies have had such amazing cast, RDJ, Ed Norton and Chris Hemsworth(who we haven't seen yet but has me really excited to see his young fiery intensity). Evans doesn't seem like he could lead that group believably. I mean I know he's an actor but I don't think that he's good enough to shake his image as the young hot-head from FF and Not Another Teen Movie.
All these articles are saying the Marvel went to Evans with the offer which if true is ridiculous on their part! They expect regular movie goers let alone the crazy/obsessive loyal Marvel movie goers to accept that Evans is allowed to play two such iconic characters in the Marvel U! please let it not beeee.

Yahoo is confirming the same thing. I really enjoy Chris Evans acting, although he does come off as a little arrogant at times. I have faith that he can pull off what is required and really put his name in with the heavy hitters. If Thor does really well, (which I am sure it will with the cast it has) I am certain the door for Captain America will be wide open. Dispairing only wastes your time, just enjoy the fact that a Cap movie is being made with big budget.

Chris Evans is definitely the new Captain America. I think he'll be good for the role. He's got a good swashbuckling attitude I think that's right for the part. Put him in a 40's time period and I think we have a Cap.

I just hope he never runs into the Human Torch or things could get confusing.

I can live with this.  His Johnny Storm was an obnoxious punk kid...just like the "real" Johnny Storm.  Since the characters are so very differnt, I am sure he will be playing them differntly.

Interestingly enough, he is not the only repeat marvel actor.  Volstagg in the Thor film is the Former Punisher Ray Stevens.  He's actually one of my favorite actors, he was fantastic in Rome.

Christ Evans, I've got so little frame of refernce for I think I'll be able to fall into him as Captain America.

I think Tim was kind of hinting at this, but it will be funny to see Evans as Cap with the original Human Torch being part of the Invaders.   If they have the Human Torch in the movie.....

I think Hugo Weaving will be a good Red Skull.

As for Chris Evans:  Part of me thinks Marvel just settled and part of me thinks he's the one that actually nailed the audition.   We will see.   I'm not that dissapointed I guess.   Could be worse.

I think Chris was on Marvel's short list from the start, and was probably their first choice, but he had some conflicts orginally, which have since cleared up  Probably something related to his contract with Fox as the Human Torch, and some prohibition on other characters he could play  one might imagine that Marvel gave Fox something to get him into the movie, and once that was finalized they wen't forward with their original choice.

Whch sort of suggests, that Chris was the first choice from the start, and that they had always planned on making him Cap, and were probably operating with that assumption, but couldn't release that information until they had tied up all the loose ends.  That makes the other search mostly just to secure a plan B, and possibly to negotiated down the price.

I don't like Chris Evans.  Because he played Johnny Storm as a jerk, and I didn't see anything about him that I can sympathize (or follow him into battle).  Anyway, have to 'open my mind' like accepting Keaton as Batman.  Maybe he's changed over the years and looks so different from the FF movies (Check out that new Flash Gordon tv show?  That kid from Smallville really looks and acts different on FG, so if he can do it, Evans can do likewise).
Anyone seen Push? Or one of his small independent movie?  Can he come off as a leading man?  Like Harrison Ford in Raiders?

Between him and Tatum,  I would've prefered Tatum.

Alexander Salksind would've been interesting.  Have to see him in one of those tv vampire series.

I thought that Chris Evans did a great job as Johnny Storm. But that is also my problem, I keep seeing him as the human torch,I would have preferred Channing Tatum for Cap but if we look at past movies and casting:
Michael Keaton - Batman
Robert Downey jr - Iron man
Both were not really accepted well by the fans but blew away any skeptics when the movie premiered. I know that so far the majority of the Marvel Movies have been awesome except for a few . I'm going to see this movie with excitement and hope it is as good as all Cap fans want. Plus Hugo Weaving is an incredible actor and I think his Red Skull will steal the film.

Chris Evans impressed me in the FF movies. He nailed the obnoxious jerk part, but really turned it around when the movie got serious. I also liked him in Cell that allowed him to grow from a surfer dude to a concerned citizen.

We'll see. I think he probably will stand toe-to-toe with RDJ just fine. I certainly like him better than the CW cast call.

Now if we can get Kiera Knightly as Peggy Carter, we'll be all set!

Evans will be okay. What is going to Make or Break this film is the director.

True, it has been a while since I have seen anything from the director that I can remember. To be honest the shining part of the movie won't be Captain America, but Red Skull played by Hugo Weaving. It reminds me of how the Dark Knight was made amazing by the work of Heath Ledger and without him the movie would be mediocre.

Also I thoguht Jack Nicholson stole the show on the first Batman movie when I first saw it in 1989.

Blah, Blah, Blah...
Chris Evans would be a great Cap!
Just think OUTSIDE THE BOX, yes I wanted someone like Leo but like I said...you gotta picutre him in a Cap costume, he looks pretty good...

The villain always makes the movie. Neo would not have floated the Matrix...None of the James Bond movies are named after him.

I don't agree with the "villain will steal the show" statement for the Cap movie. As Mentioned, both Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger stole the show as Joker. After those movies everyone ran around "Woo! Go Joker! Be Crazy! Anarchy!" But I doubt anyone will be talking about how "wicked cool!" Red Skull is. A great villain no doubt but not "cool". Nobody is going to be idolizing Nazi sentiment. Imagine the Halloween following, everyone dressed up as Red Skull "Make way for the master race!" I don't think so.
Also Sheilbearer made the comment "just enjoy the fact that a Cap movie is being made with big budget." Which of course I'm super excited for a giant Cap movie. But if it's going to be done it should be done right! And in my opinion recycling Marvel superhero actors isn't "doing it right". I thought Evans was awesome as Torch and have never complained about him in any movie but never ever have I thought him to be a good choice for Steve. While I'm sure he will do at least okay, at the moment I can't picture myself flipping out about how much I loved him as Cap. So Evans is okay but it could be better. As I said "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right".
I just want them to make a movie that I don't fast forward through to get to the action scenes.

Some reports are doubting that the average movie-goer gives a flip about the patriotism aspect behind a character like Cap. Have we really sunk so low as a country? Cap fought for one thing more than any other: FREEDOM.

Surely people still believe in freedom? Or is it just the media?

As for the Cap choice .... anything can be made to work. I want to see the cgi pre-serum cap. And maybe a little cgi trickery to make Evans a little more dramatic on-screen than he is in real life, the way they enhanced spider-man. That would help a lot if they don't overdo it or make it obvious.

the rest is up to Evans and his ability to act

I actually quite like Chris Evans.  He really impressed me in Push (which I found surprisingly very very good considering I went in thinking it was going to be a mediocre film).

As for playing Storm as an arrogant jerk... isn't Storm an arrogant jerk at times?

After the Krasinski scare frankly I'm very relieved and quite pleased.

Now to worry about the screenplay and the director.

I agree with Grexxy that it is sad that no one will really care about the patriotic part of the story, I just hope the director aims at us who will. As for Evans, I think he`ll do fine. The other choices easily sucked and few made sense to play the character, he`s the only one I could actually see in the red, white and blue. Im just glad Channing Tatum didn`t get. That guy can`t act for swill.

I don't think people have lost their sense of patriotism, it's just that patriotism is a much more complex issue now a days.  Gone are the days of dragon toothed Japanese and Grey Skinned Nazis.  Now a days the average movie goer wants a little more nuance, and the like, but given that it is going to be compared to other modern war films like Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, and now The Pacific.  Stories that are far more about the people fighting the war than the war itself I think.

I am certain you will get a great deal of that kind of story telling in this film.

Expect it to be the grit of Private Ryan, the intrigue of a Bond Film, and the action of a Jet Li film.  Thats the bar for Captain America and I doubt they intend to aim low.

i think he might do well. . .if he has any sense of what steve rogers might be like. . .i think he'll take it to heart. . .

Chris Evans will do a good job. He will definitely do better than anybody else on that list.  As comic book fans I think we should all be happy that he was chosen. He has already played in  a comic book movie with a huge following and I'm sure he has learned a lot from that experience.  He knows that he has a lot of die-hard fans watching and hoping for the best. Plus, I'm sure that he must be somewhat of a comic fan to be playing all of these comic book roles.
So lets keep our fingers crossed.  Don't hope for the movie of the century, and we might end up pleasantly surprised.  At the same time, lets not beat it up so bad that we are all super pessimistic going into the movie.  I truly think this movie will be a good one!

I agree with the last post. This will not be a direct translation from the comic book and will have a movie spin like Iron Man did, but I thoroughly enjoyed that flick.

I'm good with this. Chris Evans was a fairly safe pick and the lesser of all evils, like those CW/WB lollipops they were considering. He knows how to do comic/sci-fi movies, so it'll work. Just imagine him in a living version of this awesome frakkin costume.
