Ha!! Yeah, slacker Jim doesn't work well on the battle front.

I know it is just a part an actor plays but I had a hard time seeing something different with his role in IT'S COMPLICATED.

The latest RUMOR (taken from a blog so go figure!) is Marvel is stalling and might push out Johnston since THE WOLFMAN is underperforming. Again, just another rumor...

http://io9.com/5480582/is-the-captain-america-movie-being-put-on-hold

If true...

Are you find with the movie on hold if it means Johnston is out?

Apparently a rumor and nothing more. I kind of thought that sounded silly. Announce that he's selecting a leading man, then dump him.

I think Joe is a bit of a wild card on this project, though. His stable of films is spotty--Hidalgo was good, not fabulous. Jurassic Park III was well presented, but the script was lame. October Sky was really well done--he had passion there. Jumanji, I don't really recall. The Rocketeer I enjoyed, from what I remember.

I think he could pull it off. Will he?

All I'm expecting is that Johnson and the powers-that-be make a GOOD CAPTAIN AMERICA MOVIE.  If it doesn't make 300 million (Like Iron Man) than the fault can be laid on 'Not attracting enough audience' or 'the General public just got tired of Superhero movies', for example, Watchmen, Good movie, made a decent amount of money, can forgive some plot holes and bad lines or scenes or act, but didn't attract enough movie goers to make it a super super success.
I DO NOT WANT a repeat of the 90s Cap movie, or recently, Elektra, Catwoman, Batman and Robin, ...which Catwoman winning the Golden Rasberry award for worst movie and actress, becoming a joke and reference for all things bad and wrong in Superhero movies.
As for the Wolfman, it's a movie for the aging Baby-boomers who first enjoyed the many werewolf movies on the 40s to 70s, and that genre had been overused in many varations like in Underworld and Twilight.  I believe the studios were hoping it'll do good business but I don't think they expect it to be a Star Wars success.  I'm certain that Wolfman will make a good profit.

For Cap, young, attractive cast of actors, cool action/fight scenes, a war story, some chase, good lines, acts and scenes, a good story, if it makes a profit, Yaaa, a sequel or tv series, if it makes oodles of money, Even better.  But to start, make a good movie with good people, story and action.
Don't want to be: 'Do this and this and then it'll be a success, and if didn't become a success, then I'm wrong or I told you so, or it's a failure because it didn't do this and this.'  Just make a good movie, watchable and entertaining.

Update from the same link posted above...

"UPDATE: A Marvel Studios spokesman has been in contact to reassure us that this rumor is untrue, and that Captain America is still targeted for its 2011 release, with Johnston attached."

So, will we get a name this coming week then?

I agree with Vincent. My thing is this: please limit the CGI, please limit the Invaders and make this movie about the hard life that Steve Rogers had - both as 100-lb weakling who wasn't allowed to enlist and as an outsider within his own military, and last but not least, a man out of time. The 1960s cartoons really nailed the complexity of this character and focused a lot on the angst of Steve Rogers.

No Cap casting yet but this article says to expect one in the next couple weeks and the camera starts rolling June 28th

http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00031069.html

***ATTENTION WADE HARLAN!!****

I'm not sure if you are on top of the industry with this info but this article says they have open casting for other parts...

"Additionally, Marvel Studios is opening casting call to search supporting actors, day players and extras. Detailed information about how to join the auditions can be seen at Disney Feature Film Casting. "

http://www.featurefilmcasting.com/2010/02/marvel-studios-first-av ...

If you can't get the lead, it would still be great to be part of the movie, right?

This movie terrifies me. If it sucks i will be crushed!! The longer they go without giving the slightest bit of information brings me one step closer to a panic attack! Truthfully, i really don't care who they cast as long as he can act and he captures the essence of the character. what worries me first and formost is the story. Cap is a complex character with very specific origins. Personally i feel that even the slightest deviation will destroy the movie right out of the chute. For example, I'm a huge G.I. Joe fan. when the movie came out i was super stoked! The movie followed the comic line more than the cartoon which i thought was great but they took a ton of "creative liberties" with the character's origins. Although it was visually great, that destroyed the movie for me. You see a lot of that and I'm really hoping they don't do that here. They will doom it IMO. Second fear.. The costume. As badass as cap is.. His costume is very hard to pull off in a live action setting. I'm really hoping they stay true to his costume and do it justice but it will be very hard. I'm hoping they don't just build a crappy outfit we've never seen before which is a strong possibility. Main point here.. It will take an act of genius to pull this movie off right. Destroying it will be far easier. Everything live action they have done with cap in the past has been garbage in my opinion. Jacked up story lines, jacked up costumes. I feel this will be the Last chance for a good cap movie. If this one bombs, it's over.

Stiches, as far as I'm concerned, it will.
NO, I'm not some hater but LOOK at the facts! 2 months ago, Johnston said he was going to have an actor for him, do you SEE any links sayin so and so is Cap?
Yes, I'll DEVISTATED if the movie sucks...too long, so far...so much heart poured into being a fan.
BUT, Johnston is LIAR, PICK AN ACTOR, HE'S RIGHT IN FRONT YOU...and yet he turns down the perfect actors?
He has NO actors, actresses, I don't know if the script is good, considering that he's goin' to be a song and dance man? No.

If it ends up like the reapeted Punisher movies...it's over....I'm done.

On the postive side maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right.

SO before you start spamming me with angry comments, consider the facts...

Dude, i agree with you totally. I just didn't wanna say it. I will say however that if there was ever a time I wanna be proven wrong.. let this be it!

You guys are probably like me and are tired of the daily rumors. Just cast the damn thing already!!!

More casting rumors like Channing Tatum and Ryan Phillipe this week, according to this article.

They also mention they are looking at a British female lead. Could be Peggy Carter or Betsy Ross. Either way, I like the nod to the Cap history rather than a new character. Peggy would be interesting since, no doubt, they could play with the Sharon dynamic in a sequel. Most are not familiar with Betsy Ross (no relation to the Hulk love interest) but she was in the Golden age books from the first issue to 1949.

Still no lock on Hugo Weaving. I wonder if Marvel Studio's rumored cheap pay is backing a lot of these actors out at the end?

I was hoping for Hugo Weaving, and a cool monstrous red skull-like mask for him to evoke the terror and hatred that only Red Skull could do.

That British female lead, Kiera Knightly.  Marvel had approached her for the female lead (Don't know if she'll agreed to do it).  Hopefully it'll be like those old war movies like Man called Intrepid, woman spy in Nazi Germany.  To me, Cap's girlfriend should be a spy or government agent.  That girl-left-at-home doesn't seem to work in Cap world (I haven't warmed up to Bernie Rosenthal), ... has to be Spygirls.

Down to Mike Vogel (Cloverfield--I'm rooting for), Garret Hedlund (Tron 2, Eregon), and Chris Evans (NOOO!)

It isn't settled if it is Peggy Carter or Betsy/Betty Ross. Peggy was a spy/freedom fighter during WWII (in France) that was added retroactively. Ross started as a government agent before moving on to being Golden Girl. I don't know how much of this they would retain for the movie or if they would change the nationality. So, as you can see, Cap has always had a thing for agents!!!

They may have her be Spitfire Jaqueline and skip Betsy and Peggy. Or they may make Peggy Spitfire. They do those crazy things in movies.

I could be wrong but I think in Base Marvel Continuity Betsy Ross didn't actually start working with Cap until The Patriot took over.

If they do a love interst it should be Peggy, especially since they have a tie to the modern era in the books with her. Although the whole dating the neice of your former lover does have a creepiness factor that they may need to take into account before they commit to it.

I do however like the idea of Cap being awakened and finding someone he knew from the past, someone he loved, 70 years older.  Just having them be dead is kind of a cop out to the drama, since Steve doesn't have to face the idea of his own near imortality in that.  People die all the time in his line of work, and coming to terms with the fact that she's dead is easy, coming to terms with the fact that she is 90 even if she isn't senile is much much harder, and makes for a much stronger dramatic appraoch.

Where did you see the continuity change? Was it in passing like the "Aunt" Peggy thing Brubaker dropped in the regular book?

The internet is blowing up! Just read a new posting that Chris Evans has been offered the role.  Considering how ridiculous this whole process has been, who knows.... but he is the best of the bunch being considered.  I'd be happy if they really offered it to him.

INDB has listed that he has been offered the role as well.....
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0262635/

Could it be...will the Human Torch Johnny Storm ALSO be Captain America!?!?!
Posted:  20 Mar 2010 04:47
Yes, regular news sites (not smaller news blogs that echo other sites and rumors) like MSNBC, the Hollywood Reporter, and Entertainment Weekly are now saying Evans has been offered the role.

http://news-briefs.ew.com/2010/03/19/captain-america-offered-to-c ...

http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/03/chris-evans-captain-america.html

I thought he was great as Johnny Storm. Can he tone it down with the wisecracks for Cap? If so, I'll be okay with the casting. He is certainly better than a lot of other choices that were being thrown around the last few weeks.

Yes, he was Johnny Storm and he's in the upcoming LOSERS movie based on a comic. Ryan Reynolds, when GREEN LANTERN comes out, will have also have done three super hero movies (BLADE TRINITY and WOLVERINE ORIGINS). So why not?

Also, if accurate, the deal says THREE Cap movies plus the AVENGERS movies. Now, they may not all get made but if they succeed, that is a lot of Cap on film!!

Lets get this movie made!!

I would think any actor would love to have this opportunity.
So if they are actually offering it to him, I can't see him turning it down.
With the potential multiple movie deals that come along with it, the dude would be set. Wow!
I'm starting to get excited again!

I've been holding off because of all the rumors for weeks until the latest Chris Evans rumor gets confirmed. Is this as close as we are going to get for a confirmation or should I wait until Marvel announces it officially? (A Bendis Tweet doesn't count)

http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/03/evans-accepts-captain-ameri ...

If true, I can live with it.
