I just read that Spider man 4 was put on hold, due to the fact that the powers-that-be couldn't agree on the villian or villians to run the movie.  Maybe the Cap movie will return to the May date to launch summer movie event.
Vulture, Rhino, Black Cat, etc, would only make 4 another rehash of Spidey 3 movie.

My suggestion:  Take Spidey out of New York.  Say, Peter learns that his parents were spies and declared traitors, and he's off trying to learn the truth and vindicate his family name.  He could infiltrate Shield, travel to Europe or Russia, get new gadgets or tweak his costume for the new movie.
Liken to the Holy Grail storyline for King Arthur, when all the joust, love triangles, wars and squabbles played out, set the heroes on a quest out of Camelot.  Or as in Happy days, after the humor, dates, etc, the entire cast goes to Los Angeles and Fonzie jumps the shark.
  What do you think?

Nah, keeping Spidey in New York is keeping true to the character.

Good for Raimi for sticking to his guns. Rumor control said they wanted a female Vulture or for the Black Cat to turn into one or something. They just need to get out of Raimi's way and stop micromanaging the film.

I think they should just go with the Kraven storyline. Condense it all into Kraven's last hunt and you'd have a pretty cool, high stakes Spiderman Movie. And since Spiderman 3 had Venom, you could even have Spidey wear his black costume, but have it more like the comic version so that people don't think he Venom back from the grave.

I do think you could have second villian as well, just don't have it a team up style fight like with SM3. I'd like see the movie start with a fight with somebody like say Shocker, or Rhino, but let Spidey win the battle and leave it at that and begin with the Kraven story. Don't need to know the origin and back story of every villian Spidey goes up against.

And it would be awesome if CAP was released in May versus July.

Here is what I would do if I was in charge and many of these are other people's ideas I saw that I liked.

I think they wanted to do 2-3 movies back to back. Lets go with two.

First one:
Let Mary Jane have a rest after the events of the last film and have Peter dating Gwen (natural progression of the storyline).

Do the Kraven storyline but have him coming to New York to hunt super villains and heroes (makes no difference to Kraven as they are all prey but he is using the guise of vigilante hero to pursue his prey in public). After capturing the Rhino, the Lizard, the Beetle, and other lesser villains, he then turns his sights on spiders (Spider-man) and vultures (The Vulture). In his and the public's eyes, they are all vermin that must be contained and he is the public's rat catcher.

Peter has an interest in going after Kraven since his mentor Curt Conners (now the Lizard) is being shipped back to Kraven's lair.

The Vulture is a little smarter than the rest of the prey and is taking a stance to go after Kraven before he comes after him but wants to use Spider-man to sweeten the trap.

So essentially the two big baddies are Kraven and the Vulture and the rest are just cameos.

At the end, Peter looses the girl again with Gwen (doesn't have to be her death but maybe Captain Stacey's) but saves the day.

Second one:
MJ is back and Peter has to win her over again. But there is competition in the Black Cat (having Gwen and the Black Cat in the same movie is too many blondes).

Meanwhile, other villains make cameos including the Green Goblin's return only to be revealed in battle that they are illusions. It turns out, Mysterio is at work. Mysterio would be played by Bruce Campbell and hence all those cameos from previous films lead to something (just Peter running into Bruce, though. They never knew each other's identities)

We can also have Sandman in the act but in a lesser role.

Captain Jean DeWolf can take over for the late Captain Stacey.

In the end, Peter chooses MJ and the two get married. Happy ending.

If a Third movie:
Save the marriage finale for this one.

Have the Sinister Six for this one: Electro, Sandman returning, Scorpion, Hobgoblin, Black Cat, and Doc Ock (he didn't die at the end of the 2nd movie, did he?).

Black Cat is the woman scorned.
Doc Ock wants revenge.
Is Hobgoblin Harry returned??
And Sandman is Uncle Ben's killer.

I just hope they let Raimi do his thing with the movie. The first two Spider-man movies didn't miss a beat. I thought SM3 was okay, but not as good as it could have been. Too many things going on to create a solid story arc.

It sounds like management is going crazy with a million non-comic book fan ideas that would be the death of the Spider-man franchise.

I like John Malcovich as Vulture, but Ben Kingsley would be even better. I don't like the idea of having Felicia Hardy be the "vulturess." That's asinine. I think the Black Cat could stir up MJ and Peter's relationship again--images of Gwen to MJ. But this time Peter isn't letting it go on, he just keeps getting set up by Felicia and he's having a hard time convincing MJ. That would create the tension for his growth while the Vulture could be the villain to stop.
