I think the artist, Chris Weston, went on hiatus from the title to do some movie work. He did art for that new Denzil Washington movie coming out. __________________

MARVEL MASTERWORKS: CAPTAIN AMERICA VOL. 5 HC
Written by STAN LEE
Penciled by GENE COLAN
Cover by GENE COLAN
It’s a twelve-pack of Captain America classics as only the Marvel Masterworks can bring them to you! Draped in the red, white and blue, there’s no character in all of comics who represents America like Cap, and within these pages two of Marvel’s greatest creators set him on a path through the tumultuous ’70s that bears a character’s, and a nation’s, soul. In story after story Stan Lee and Gene Colan push the envelope for adventure as Cap goes behind enemy lines in Vietnam; teams with the Falcon to oppose the radical Diamondheads; and then sets out on a coast-to-coast road trip full of motorcycle gangs, rock festivals and the Red Skull! The excitement reaches fever pitch when the long, lost Bucky Barnes returns! Free from the guilt of his partner’s death, Cap’s slate is wiped clean, however, anything but a normal life is ahead—because Baron Strucker, Dr. Doom and M.O.D.O.K. are tied up in Bucky’s return. Before the story’s done you’ll witness Cap vs. Bucky, the origin of M.O.D.O.K. and the beginning of the Captain America/Falcon team! Featuring guest appearances by Nick Fury, the Incredible Hulk and Peter Parker, and villains from Batroc to the Mole Man and the Monster Ape, they’re classics one and all. Finally, Cap fights Taskmaster. During Gruenwald's run on Cap, Taskmaster was suppose to go up against Cap, from what I remember reading in one of those preview magazines on comics or whatever Diamond distribution put out then, but that never happened.
This was after John Walker returned the Cap costume and shield to Rogers. Taskmaster was brought in earlier to train Walker to fight like Rogers.
Would be fun to read the greatest fighter battling a photographic-reflex person.

I always loved the Taskmaster. People point out that he could only fight a hero to a standstill if he was duplicating their moves but I say he would just switch to another style to beat that hero (or cost him the battle).
I'll probably buy the NOMAD trade since I'm such a completist with my Cap stuff. Like THE AMERICAN DREAM series earlier in the year, it seems to be aimed at younger readers like teens but I've been buying the floppies/monthlies and the series is pretty "meh" right now. Basic stuff about teen rebellion against mass thinking and I didn't really expect much with Sean McKeever writing it as he helped kill THE TEEN TITANS for me over at DC with his formula stories. And, I guess, we'll now have to put up with this as a back up in the regular Cap series for an extra dollar. Ugh!
I'm not sure if we need a Winter Soldier Ultimate Collection? I guess this is like the Brubaker Omnibus Volume One PART ONE trade paperback.
That Joe Quesada art for the variant on REBORN cracks me up. It always looks like Cap is trying to squeeze out a poop or something.
THE TORCH: I'm actually digging this series more than Ross and his Dynamite crew's previous collab, AVENGERS/INVADERS. I still think, when all is said and done, in maybe a year or two, we'll have the old school Invaders back together again for a series.
THE TWELVE ONE-SHOT: I knew artist Chris Weston was working again on THE TWELVE after his movie stuff had finished and I assume he was the hold up and the reason for the hiatus. But it is interesting that JMS isn't writing this and now has gone off in a huff from Marvel and is working with DC now (Essentially, he didn't want Marvel Editorial forcing an event down his throat with his work on THOR which is what SIEGE now is). JMS is known for not being a very good finisher so if he is now the hang up on THE TWELVE, I say time to find another writer Weston is comfortable with and wrap it up. Marvel owns THE TWELVE. Not JMS. No need to hold a book and fans hostage because a creator is having a snit over something.
NEW ULTIMATES: I'm not thrilled that Loeb is back writing The Ultimates. He doesn't seem to be doing very much good work lately but always manages to get top-notch artists on his books so they always turn into love/hate books with just a bunch of pretty pictures to look at. __________________
