Quote: I wish I had a Cap book for Gene Colan to sign. I might pick up the Cap #601 cover he did.
Yeah #601 is a good one as it his last comic book ever (I think that is what he announced).
Either that or pick up the classic Cap #116, I picked up a litho of it and got it signed last year.....
Yeah real nice Spidey comics bro!
I know on these boards it looks like I love Cap and only Cap LOL, but....
I'm also a huge Spidey fan also.
When I first started really collecting comics in the early 80's Spidey was it for me.
Secret Wars, Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, the black costume saga (before Venom) The Black Cat romance storyline, Peter proposing to Mary Jane, etc.... I was there and read each issue month after month. In fact Spider-Man has always been my FAVORITE comic book to read.
Yeah I love the Brubaker Cap stuff now for the last few years, but typically it has always been Spider-Man as my comic book of choice.
In the 80's I really loved the Zeck Cap covers and art a lot, but the stories were just ok for the most part. Some story lines were good (Deathlok), but most were just ok. Excellent art though!
Spidey though is what kept me coming back to the comic book stores.
Even in between issues I would buy and read Marvel Tales back then reprinting the old Stan Lee stories.
While Spider has been my favorite comic to read, I haven't collected much Spidey over the years mainly because there is so much to collect. I do have a few action figures and Spidey statues, but it is almost impossbibe to collect all things Spidey.
With Cap, much easier as there is usualy a new action figure or statue every couple of months.
So it really it really isn't damaging to my wallet for the most part (except CGC SS books ahem...)
Ok back on topic...
While Crystar #1 isn't worth peanuts in the comic market, it means a lot to me.
So that's why when I saw it for peanuts on ebay for a 9.8, well I just had to break my rule and get it.
Another book I would break my rule to get would be for Amazing Spider-Man #238, and Amazing #50 "Spider-Man no more"
No not #50 because of the movie, I have always loved the storyline. With Spider-Man 2 though, man now that comic price is though the roof for a decent grade.
As for Amazing #238, well that was my very first comic book I ever bought with my own money.
I was at a drug store, and saw it on one of those spinning racks, and just got $1 for watering the plants for a week. I walked by the rack and saw this guy (Hobgoblin) ripping up Spidey's costume and I was like..."Oh My God!!, who is this guy just ripping the costume up!?!?!" I bought it right there and then and have been hooked on Spidey comic since.
Ha ha the best part about that comic as a kid was that it came with tattoos inside it ha ha!!
Free tattoos!! A great bonus for someone in 3rd or 4th grade.
Now it's pretty cool as I found out later it was the first comic both John Romita SR & JR worked together on.
Will take some pics to add to this thread later.....
