So, what do you guys think about Anthony Hopkins being cast as Odin in the Thor movie?
I look at it this way:  There are 2 big names in this movie:  Hopkins and Natalie Portman.  I think the guy who has been cast as Thor (name escapes me) has the perfect look for him and is a big guy.  Regardless if you agree with the choice of Hopkins and whether it was the right choice, it is a huge casting move by Marvel.
This isn't like getting Brian Blessed who would have been perfect for the role, but this is Anthony freakin Hopkins.
What this does in my opinion, is it sets the bar pretty high for the Cap movie.   Regardless if Odin has a small part, it's a huge name.   They (Marvel) cannot under any circumstance, just fluff off any casting choices for any character in the Cap movie.  He is an iconic character in comics and Thor pales in comparison.   Yes, I'm looking forward to the Thor movie, but let's be honest here, the bigger issue is the casting and ultimatley storyline for the Cap movie.
Just like to get your thoughts on this.  I'm guessing most of you follow my logic on this.....

Anthony Hopkins is a good actor. Awesome on Zorro. Can't wait to see his next movie Wolf man.

Check out Flash Gordon 1980 (I think), Brian Blessed was Voltan, king of the Hawkmen, somewhat liken to Norsemen or Vikings.  He had that great Booming voice, "Hawkmen, DIIIIIVE!!"  Family Guy had a cameo of that guy in a Stewie and Brian time travel show.
But then, Hopkins is sooo international well known, attracts movie goers outside the comic book field, brings investors to the movie, etc.  Like Brando provided for the 78 Superman movie.

I admire Anthony Hopkins and think he'll bring some great talent to Thor. I am not super excited about Thor, but I am more interested now that Hopkins is involved. I suspect he'll bring a measure of buzz to the project.

I still wish Spider-man three had been done with Vulture--they had Ben Kingsley lined up to play that role! Ben Kingsley!

I've seen a lot of concern on the web about Cap not being cast. Since the movie is not scheduled to start filming till around May or June, I wouldn't be surprised if they take the time over the next month to hype Thor some more. Thor is arguably going to be the harder film to promote to a general audience. Cap will be more like Superman, Batman or Spider-man. They're super heroes, but they are slightly more reality-based than the Norse god of thunder with a god father Odin in Asgard.

I suspect they have a pretty good idea of who will play Cap and may have other parts narrowed down as well. They will likely wait until Thor starts shooting before they announce Cap's casting. It is also possible Cap will be doing a cameo in the Thor movie for a tie-in. I suppose it is too late for him to cameo for Iron Man 2, though.

I'm also pretty sure they have others working on the set designs, costumes and locations for Cap, though the director is busy finishing Wolfman.

Now that the cast of Thor has been pretty much locked down, I imagine we'll start hearing more Cap stuff in the next few months. Exciting times for Cap fans.

Joe Johnston was suppossed to start on CAP in October because THE WOLFMAN was suppossed to be released in Nov, but after a less than stunning response about how the actual Wolfman looked, they reshot all the werewolf scenes. Considering that THE WOLFMAN is now coming out in FEB, I'd think that Joe Johnston is still working on that project and will be on CAP as soon as he's all finished with Wolfman. The sooner the better.

All this could mean that The First Avenger may be delayed. Unless Joe is able to do the finish work on Wolfman and do pre-production on Cap. If he's busy re-shooting and cutting, he'll never be able to do both films. They might have to push Cap off till November or December 2011.

I don't think it will be put off at all. I just think it might be until Feb until we hear about casting. Maybe sooner but probably not.

CAP is suppossed to start filming in the summer, and considering that it won't come out until a year after that, they have plenty of time for post-production, and I'm sure most of the pre-production is already layed out. I think they just want the Director on board to make decisions.

This movie should be very, very good.
