Hey gang! I got a few little tidbits of information to share with you all concerning two highly anticipated Marvel films, Thor and Captain America.
It looks like Kenneth Branagh is going to start shooting Thor in about 8 to 10 weeks depending on how much the holidays slow down production. So we are looking at a late December early January shooting start date. The main cast is set and they are excited to get started on it.
As for the casting rumor started over at AICN that Jude Law and Robert DeNiro have been cast in Thor, it’s false information. When I asked about it, I got a big fat NO. So that rumor has been debunked, unless that’s what they want us to believe, and they didn’t want to confirm that they have been cast or they are being talked to. But it was a pretty confident and quick “No”.
The film will take place in Midgard, where partially disabled medical student Dr. Donald Blake discovers his heretofore unknown alter ego, the Norse warrior, Thor. The film is set to be released May 20th 2011.
As for Captain America, the the script is complete and was recently turned in, so people close to the project are reading through it right now. The movie will also start shooting a couple months after the Thor shoot begins.
Joe Johnston is directing the film, which I couldn’t be more excited about. So far we know that that the film will take place during World War II. After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America’s ideals. Captain America is set to come out on July 22, 2011.
I would think casting for Captain America is underway and there are some names on a list somewhere of potential actors. We know that they want to go with someone with big international star power, which I’m not a fan of. But maybe they will get a great actor. The one and only name that keeps popping up is Will Smith for the role of the Captain. I don’t think it will happen, but I can’t wait to see who eventually gets cast.
Looks like they changed that ordinary soldier to deemed unfit for military. As for big name stars, I saw a picture of Nic Cage in a Superman suit and it just looked silly and funny. Has to be an actor not very well known like casting Brandon Peterson in Superman returns (Not a good movie, but Peterson was a good Superman).

Don't hate, but please no Will Smith for Cap. Everytime I read something like this I cringe. Nothing against Will Smith, I think he's a great actor, but it would totally ruin the movie for me. Whats next, a remake of Steel with Yao Ming?? Or how about Usain Bolt as the Flash?

I agree, no Will Smith for Cap. I think Smith would make a FANTASTIC Falcon or even Black Panther.
I doubt Smith has seriously been considered, though. I think he's been mentioned only to stoke interest in the film. In the end, the filmmakers know they have to keep true to the comics as much as possible or they risk losing the one certain group of viewers they have--the fans. If you get 80% of the fans and then garner another 10% of non-fans, it's a success. But if you tweak it to death and lose the fans, non-fans won't even bat an eye. __________________

Hey Vincent, it was Brandon Routh that played Superman and I agree, he did a great job but the story was mediocre and I wasn't crazy about the ending with the potential super offspring. I also wonder if they're going to stick to the original storyline (I love it) or go with the Ultimates version (I hope not). I would love to see the effects for Giant Man pulling the tattered uniformed form of Captain America into the Avengers sub. It'd lose too much (for me) to set it up like the animated Ultimate Avengers to have it be a top secret mission for S.H.I.E.L.D. to recover Steve Rogers.

Will smith is a name, but I think they would lose too much with the fan base by breaking continuity than they'd gain in international marketing.
They could put him in there, make him a handler of Cap, Make him Gabriel Jones, that kind of thing. I think they could go with Sam as Nick Fury, I think the back lash on that would be less than Smith as Cap (since they seem to be operating from an Ultimates perspective).
As to who should play cap, there's really not a lot of Big Names out there anymore, and few that could really play cap believably.
Bruce Willis in his prime right after diehard maybe, but that's about it.
They'll probably go with some british or austrailian actor who is known but perhaps not known for action.
That kid from Harry Potter looked pretty Ripped in Equis.

Superman Return is getting into my 'God, why did I like this back then' list, which includes Ateam, Buffy and wrestling, which is why I got that Routh name mixed up with that Marvel artist (I think).
Should've cut off that last bit about Smith. Over at Geektyrant, replies on Smith is harsh and negative. Anyhoo, here's why I don't like famous actor playing Cap:
Enjoy.

That does make him look pretty bad.
Here's one I did a while back.

I like the arnim zola thing too. Better yet, the other Arnold, Swartzanegger as Arnim Zola!
I read that the script will "knock our socks off!" I sure hope so. __________________

Swartzanegger only after he's in the robot suit.
Although I guess the could hobbitize him like they did in the lord of the Rings series.
I think that Arnold is actually otherwise occupied at the moment.
It should be noted that Jackson is signed to play Nick Fury in this one, though that could just be a scene set in modern times if they don't want to explain the whole infinity formula stuff.
