Captain America and the Struggle of the Superhero: Critical Essays (Paperback)
by Robert G. Weiner (Author)

So I ordered it and it arrived earlier this month. I'm only about a third of the way through but it is an interesting read. Certainly geared to the hardcore Cap fans who might want to step back and analyze the history of Cap from a real world literary and historical perspective. I should power through the rest of this in the next couple weeks but some of the topics covered is Racial Issues in the Cap books, Eugenics, Political Interpretations, and comparisons with other  characters like Captain Britain and the Punisher.

I do have to warn you that it can get a little dry as these are essays written by collegiate types in a college literary style (footnotes, etc) and it does smack of a collection of essays written for their classes. But, if you want to do more than just read Cap for entertainment and give our hero a critical analysis, it is worth checking out. One usually finds these type of books for the superhero genre in general or maybe Superman or Batman but not usually for Captain America.

Here is some more information from Amazon.com...

Product Description
For more than 60 years, Captain America was one of Marvel Comics' flagship characters, representing truth, strength, liberty, and justice. The assassination of his alter ego, Steve Rogers, rocked the comic world, leaving numerous questions about his life and death. This book discusses topics including the representation of Nazi Germany in Captain America Comics from the 1940s to the 1960s; the creation of Captain America in light of the Jewish American experience; the relationship between Captain America and UK Marvel's Captain Britain; the groundbreaking partnership between Captain America and African American superhero the Falcon; and the attempts made to kill the character before his "real" death.

Just came across the book on ebay:

Why is the seller asking $70 for it shipped!?!?!

Hey P.S., I've done a bit of buying and selling on E-bay over the years and $3.99 is pretty standard. The sellers I try to avoid are the ones who will offer an item for a low price and then ZAP you with high shipping and theres the other who charges more than the items worth and will give you a cheap shipping price. Don't get me wrong, there are a majority of fair sellers out there. You just have to look and weigh how badly you want an item. I've just found on the Hasbro official site the Marvel 70th anniversay set of the 3" 3/4 invaders for $39.99 if your interested. Here's the link:
