Hey all. Iv'e decided to build a WW2 Cap outfit for haloween this year. I thought i'd share my progress with you all as I went along.
The Helmet.
went to my local army surplus store and just picked up an old WW2 bucket. I'm using the helmet from ultimate avengers as a template on this. got it painted for the most part. it needs sealed and i need to complete the chin strap.
The Shield.
cut this sucker out of double ply foamcore. it's suprisingly solid. (can't afford the replica I just started priming and painting on this today so it lookes like crap right now. this'll take me a while to complete. in addition to the painting, i still need to sand and seal the edges.
I just started the whole project a few days ago. i'll keep posting pics and progress as I go along. It will look very similar to this when completed.
Stay tuned!

But overall GREAT job so far.

I think 16 stars on the shield.
This one doesn't half to do with the costume, but it's cool...
Any Help so far?

Alright!!!!
Looks awesome and this is perfect timing as I might need help putting mine together.
I bought a helmet at the surplus store, but what the hell is that brown mask thing he is wearing under the helmet!?!?!
I can't find that anywhere.

thank you for the pics. they are helpful. i'm actually using that for the striping. the mask under the helmet actually doesn't exist. it was really the only artistic liberty taken with this costume. it's just a half cowl fashiond after a leather flight helmet with the goggles built in. i didn't know that at first and i hunted everywhere trying to find out what it was. The guy next door to me is a WW2 veteran and i took the pics to him and asked. he busted my bubble on that. I'm actually going to hand build that using a balaclava and a cold weather military face mask. It'll be the last thing i do prolly. Iv'e gotten more work done on the shield and i just finished the spat leggings. (hand punching eyelets is not fun) i'll post pics tomorrow prolly. Thanks everyone for the compliments and tips. i'm always lookin for advice and critique so keep em comin!!

Any chance of making a mold of it, producing copies of it where I can order it? A decade ago I began picking up those Amateur sculpture mags (Hoping to get some Cap or Highlander statues), now someone actually built a great looking Cap desk statue, going to run out of shelf space.
Again, great piece. Thanks for sharing.

That shield turned out nicely. Gonna add the stars? I know that would be hard to do, but it would look awesome.

This bad boy is COMPLETE! 32 inches long and 20 inches across. gonna take some straps off an old backpack and fasten them to the back. i can shorten them to carry it and extend them out to carry it on my back.

oh also, started working on the under cowl. i actually used a pair of swimming goggles that mounted nicely into the mask. i have to remove the rest of the yellow from them to get rid of that glare. i also have to dremel off the plastic tabs that held the nose strap. it's layered in brown cloth right now. when it's ready, i'm going to bound the whole thing in brown leather and add the chin straps and stuff. sorry the pic is dark but you get the idea.

Good idea - I was going to go as Cap this year, but it seems every costume looks cheesy instead of hardass, which Cap obviously is. Good work on the inginuity and dedication. BTW, I hope the movie nails a sweet Cap outfit...

Shoot yeah man. I wasn`t overly fond of Hitch`s costume design for the Ultimate Cap, but the 40s gear and functionality, I fell in love with. So you`re definitely making the right outfit.
I see you mentioned Star Wars armor, I take it you mean Stormtrooper armor??? This I find interesting, as I am trying to weasel my way into the 501st one of these days, just don`t have the stuff to make my armor.

yeah. iv'e been in the 501st. since 2007. i loved it because i love to build. i don't sculpt so i would get the pieces from molders in raw form and go to work building them from there. Iv'e taken a break from it this past year because it's just too damn expensive.(about 5 grand into 2 outfits). costuming is expensive anyhow but the star wars stuff is outragous! i just don't have that kinda money there days.
yeah, this is my favorite cap outfit ever. i love this because it's just real and plausable and i love old military stuff. plus, i'm not lou ferrigno so me running around in spandex would have been terrifying!

I was a little worried about your shield there until you put the stars on it. Now it looks cool. The helmet is turning out nice too. Good job so far.

That's awesome building your own costume. The one my son is wearing for my avatar was sewn by my mom when I was a kid. I got her to make a couple Cap costumes when I was a youngster. I paved the way for the hero! I proudly wore my first costume for Halloween in Italy when I was in 3rd grade. I still have the shield and the mask. I should post them sometime. __________________
