The Los Angeles Times recently spoke to The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier and got quotes about what he's seen of The First Avenger: Captain America and his dream for The Avengers. Here are several clips from the article:

LL: ...I have seen some of the design work they’re doing for Captain America and it looks amazing. It’s a period piece and it’s like “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and with more gadgets...

GB: Well that makes sense, I know Feige and his team turned to Joe Johnston because of his art direction work on “Raiders” and the fact that he directed “The Rocketeer.”

LL: Yes, exactly, so it’s “Raiders” meets "Rocketeer” and “Saving Private Ryan.” It’s going to be so cool.

I like that attitude. Rocketeer, Raiders, and Private Ryan were all very good movies. I've always said there's ought to be a touch of Raiders in a good Cap movie.

Here's more of the article, where he talks about his dream for an "Avenger's Summer" of 4 movies by 4 directors. Four Rooms anyone? Anyone remember that flick directed by 4 different guys, including Tarantino?

We release them one a month for the summer. Or even every two weeks or three weeks. And the whole summer would be Avengers summer. So we do it the way they make television shows. One story arc but told in installments by different directors. So all of the directors that touch part of the Avengers world would do a part; we could make the movies shorter, maybe less than an hour and a half, and we use the same sets and save Marvel money. I would love to sit around a table with all of them a kick around the story. That’s my dream.

Werd up, Louie. Avengers summer ...

Yeah, I saw that in this article:

Read the interview...
WHOO!!! CAP'S IN PRODUCTION!!!
Posted:  13 Aug 2009 08:56
Well, it's technically still in development but I guess you could say it's nearing Pre-production. Thor is in Pre-production and when they start filming, it'll be in production. Of course that is nitpicking it. I guess I just have to get on it!

I know...It's just makes me happy that there finally  going to make the movie. I mean really...He's been out for 70 years, and not 1 good movie. Spider-Man got tons of movies and shows...

Has anyone read the new "Ultimate Avengers Comics #1". Holy S---! That rendition of the Red Skull is exactly what the Steve Rogers/Captain America storyline needs! Thank goodness for non-Brubaker Cap stories where Cap is still blonde haired/blue-eyed Steve Rogers.

Anyway, my vision for the movie is very much a Raiders of the Lost Arc type of movie where Hitler almost creates the Red Skull with some super secret, occult Nazi stuff and Cap has to save the day by stopping the Nazis from either the creation of a Super Weapon or from obtaining some powerful ancient artifact.

From there, I seem him falling off the drone plane (no Bucky), being frozen, wakes up in modern times to open his eyes and find Fury and Stark staring back at him amazement. Credits roll and we're all set for Cap 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Are there any photos from production, or of production art? I haven't seen a photo or sketch anywhere that's related to the movie, or how much of it will involve a CGI Cap.

I’m still catching-up on some reading so excuse the latest of this review. I just finish reading All Winner special #1 and boy did I like it. As I said in the past, Mar should do a series on the men who have held the shield besides Steve Rogers. As shown in this special All Winner comic Jeff is still new at this, being Cap, and has doubts running through his head. The story was well written getting everyone involved and showing how Miss America is running the show behind the scenes. What a great mini-series this would make; Cap dies, the Sprit of 76 takes over, the team evolves into All Winner Squad after the War, members change, Cap grows and then it happens again, he dies and the Patriot takes over etc. There is a lot of story to tell here.

Come-on Marvel pick this idea up and run with it!

The Cap ongoing series is on hiatus while the Reborn is running, they could've used those books to tell stories on Patriot/Cap and Spirit76/Cap, up till 1949, when Bucky/Fred Davis(I think) was wounded by a bullet and Patriot/Cap teamed up with Golden Girl.  Plus, wouldn't you like to know why Patriot/Cap/Jeff Mace retired??  Was it the Government told Mace to shut down?  He was in America fighting crime?  And what was his reaction when the 53 Cap showed up??  Commie Smashing Cap was well liked by the Government, until around 55, he and Jack Monroe/Bucky started beating up ordinary African-Americans thinking they were Reds.

As for the pics of the Cap movie, Feign at the San Diego Con showed a production design, it was on the internet and I commented on it, now I can't find it.
Any help?

I was hoping for less of a period piece and the introduction of cap into our modern era. Or a mixture of both would be good too.

i'd hate to be the writer on this movie. Just look at all the posts and opinions!!!
