Captain America Message Board / Captain America Message Board / Captain America Comics / Cap CGC Comics...........?

Hey guys, anyone here collect CGC comics?
There is always a debate & argument when it comes to CGC books in the comic world.
I think most people that I've talked to dislike them, as they say comics are meant to be read.
After all how can you read it if it's slabbed?
I can totally agree with that, but I can also see the other side of the fence of why people do collect CGC books.

I was never a CGC fan at first, but I thought I would pick up older Cap titles that were slabbed.
I mean for me.... if I wanted to read an old cap book (ex. #100, or 1960's stuff) I would just read the reprint or trade paperback so I don't mess up the value of the original comic.
So years ago I started collecting a few older slabbed books.
Once in a while I would come across a newer Cap comic for cheap at conventions or on ebay and would pick them up also.
If it was cheap and I liked the cover, I was like hey why not?
My rule to myself was I would buy a slabbed book as long as it was a Cap book or at least Cap was on the cover.
Anyone here collect slabbed books, and if so what Cap books do you own?

Anyways I wanted to share some of the CGC books I have with you Cap fans.
My wife & most fiends are not Cap fans, so they don't care to see this kind of stuff ha ha.

Here is the lower half of my large book case, my CGC books are in the lower right hand corner...

Schmucker, dude you have one gnarly ass CAP collection. You are a hard core fan. All I can say is if I get the part of CAP, I will try my best to get you on set to visit.

The rest of you heard it hear, so now I have back it up, well actually I have to get the part first (is that all? should be easy).

Dell Rusk- Awesome collection!
That Zeck Cap head sketch on issue #300 is awesome!
I just came across a dude selling his Cap CGC collection and he had one like that but it was issue $287 CGC SS Zeck with a head sketch. I wanted it but he was asking too much for it, somewhere like $450.
Damn it does look sweet!

#454 is an awesome cover as well by Garney. I will need to pick that up myself for sure.

And wow oh wow, #100 with Joe Simon & Stan Lee!!!
Doesn't get better then that!

So what do you have the Holy Grail Avengers #4 CGC'd?
And if not, is it on your "To get" list?
Hey thanks for sharing again, REALLY nice stuff!

Oh & Wade, RIGHT ON BRO!!
Even more I want you to get the part now, HA HA HA HA!!!

Yeah Wade "if" you could pull it off, I would take you up on the offer buddy. We live in the same state, I would just need to drive a few hours south to get to the Los Angeles area. Sounds worth it to me, HA HA!!
I now wish you even more luck then before!!
LOL!

I dont have a copy of Avengers #4 yet. I waited to long to pick up a copy. I am looking for a 5.0-6.0 range. They were in the high $400 now they are in the $800 range because of the movie hype. Might have to sell a couple of duplicates to get close.

As far a Zeck, That was my own book that I submitted for SS. There is another signing in August for him that Im submitting a Cap #332 for. Not offering sketches this time. I think it is $35 bucks and that includes the reslabbing fee.

I cant get enough Joe SImon sigs. I have every #1 issue now signed. I have a few other Stan Lee signed books. Mostly Spidey books since he didnt do to much with Cap!

OK bro, give me the hook up!!!
How do you know when & where Zeck will be signing!?!?
You say he has a signing in August, where?
New York?

Probably my top 5 comic artist of all time are (in no paricular order)......

Jim Steranko
Neal Adams
Jim Lee
George Perez
Mike Zeck

I've met them all EXCEPT Mike Zeck, I have always loved his 80's Cap books & covers.
So how do you find out when he's doing a signing?
I have never seen anythng about it at his web site.

And do you have that Mike Zeck sketch book that came out a few years ago? If not, then that is one to get for sure!. Awesome stuff!
Posted:  25 Jun 2009 20:27
Yeah, Zeck doesnt do Cons anymore. This is a private signing set up by a CGC signature series witness. I believe he is taking 100 submissions. If your intrested join the CGC Boards. Som many sig opportunities. Lots of info and for sale threads. Its set up really nice. cgccomics.com then go to chat boards. Its there official site.

I have met Neal Adams a few times and Steranko. I have been at Cons that Jim Lee and Perez have been but lines to long to get to them. I have met Joe Simon 3 times. Thats a thrill!! Havent met Stan Lee but was a few feet from him a few times. I do live in NY so we have a few good Cons here a year. Met the Romitas who are extremely nice.

There is one SS witness named Chandler Rice. He lives in Vegas. His website is Desertwindcomics.com. He is a go to guy if you want Stan Lee, Romitas, Simon. He has a lot of private signings. Check it out. This should help you out. It has for me.

Not a Cap book but this is what I had done at the last Zeck signing. It was $15 extra for the sketches.

Awesome Dell Rusk!
$15 extra for the head sketch is way worth it!

Hey I went to the CGC site boards and could not find anything about Zecks signing in August. Could you please point me the way to the info for that one?

There was a lot of info there and I e-mailed and talked already to Chandler Rice. Thanks for the  info on him.
I'm thinking about getting A cgc ss with Stan Lee & Joe Simon on one book. Chandler said he could do it for me, now I just have to decide which book I want to do it with.
I have a CGC 7.0 Cap #100, I'm considering doing that one. I also have Avengers #4 not graded. I really want that one done, but the book is really not in the best of shape. It might grade a 4.0 at best, probably a 3.0. with cream to off white pages.

Hmmmm.... I think I'm leaning on the Avengers book, but it's such a low grade. With Cap #100 it's in decent shape at 7.0.
What would you decide in my shoes?
Posted:  26 Jun 2009 15:07
First you click on Chat Boards. Then you click on "CGC Forum". There will be a new list of forums that come up. Its under "The Signature Room". The witness thats getting it done is Par2ch. Daniel Partouche is his name. If its not on the first page its on the second.

Tuff chioce on which book to get done. I think if I had both and was going to get one signed I would still go with the Cap #100. As far as the grade it wouldnt make a difference to me. There is a CGC board member who has a Avengers #4 cgc 6.0 signed by Simon. The sig looks awesome on the white background.

You cant go wrong with Chandler. Sometimes he has sketch opportunities. He just had one for Romita Sr. They did them on the blank covers that recently came out. He had them done for like $50. He awesome.

Thanks again bro!
I am in contact with Daniel and will be sending him some books in a few days.
Too bad for me he's not doing sketches this time around. Still though, I'm a huge Zexk fann and I always wanted my Cap Annual #8 signed.
Thanks again bro, you've been a huge help!!
Posted:  26 Jun 2009 21:23
Thats awesome!! Glad to help you out. Im Professor66 on the CGC boards. The Signature Room is my favorite thread. Cap Annual #8 is a great Chioce to get signed. Need a Copy myself.

I will be getting my Cap #332 signed. Aslo getting some stuff not getting CGC'd for $15. I have a Cap mini poster that Im having my favorite artist/writers of Cap sign. Its the wizard magazine tribute cover to 9/11.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Nice Dell Rusk!
I have that one too, but 6.0 Restored
(It has a light color touch on cover)
That sucks, but hey it's better then not having any at all. I did get it for cheap on ebay a few years ago ($35).
I think the restored grading scared people away from bidding.

Meanwhile I'm still talking to Chandler, he said he might be able to get Steranko for me so I'm trying to find out how much it would be for CGC SS.

Did you see Chandlers deal for the Stan Lee meet & greet at SDCC?
$300, meet Stan Lee, bag of autographed goodies and he signs 2 of you items of choice and you get a photo with "The Man" too!
Wow!!
Posted:  29 Jun 2009 00:36
Awesome on Steranko!! If I was going to SDCC I think I would do that deal. Chandler owes me a free Stan Sig. Trying to figure what I want it on. Maybe my Cap #109 that Simon signed already. I would like to get another Cap #110 or #113 and have Steranko and Simon sign it. Joe Sinnott on the #110 also. Maybe a 9.0. I dont want to use my 9.2 and my 8.5 is a Boston pedigree.
Do you have any of the German Reprints of Cap #1? Great for a Simon sig. I have two SS already. Waiting on 2 more at CGC. I have plenty of extra non graded copies I have been hoarding from ebay lol!6-8 more copies maybe more. I could send you one if you want for free. Just let me know. They seem to be grading in at 9.4's and 9.6's.
