Captain America Message Board / Captain America Message Board / Captain America Comics / Cap CGC Comics...........?

No I didn't pay extra for shipping. This was a really long wait for books signed 2 and a halfmonth ago.

Great idea on the Steranko books framed and the Zecks. That's what I would like to do is keep a theme when framing them.

Someone on the other boards pointed out to me that my Cap #454 says signed by John Romita! Didnt even notice the mistake. They will reslab it for free!

Wow. I would hate for mistakes to happen when you already got a 9.8 on it.
I hope you don't lose a grade buddy!

As you have seen on the first page on this thread, I have a set of 8.5 Cap Steranko's.
I think if they are displayed in frames it's kinda cool to have a set like that all the same grade.
(Wish they were a higher grade, but these issues seem to sell for a really HIGH expensive price tag when they are 9.0+)
Anyways I would also like to get these books signed by Steranko, but would hate to lose a grade on one of them and throw the set off.
Anyways, I'm debating on this, to SS or not to SS, that is the question.....

Hey Tim, I bought some blank covers off of ebay here.......
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310189543497

It's the Secret Invasion blank, NM at $1.70 per issue with $3.95 flat rate shipping.
So no matter how much you buy, shipping will be no more then $3.95 total.

I think it's a good price, however Secret Invasion is not my favorite blank cover comic.
Gotta love the Marvel Projects one the most!
It's hard to find a really good deal on that baby.

I picked up 5. Only thing is there were 2 printings of this blank cover. The first was recalled because they printed it with glossy paper stock. Very hard to draw on specially with pencil from what I hear.  I'm sure sharpies and paint have no problem. Lets hope this is the better one. Thanks for sharing the deal!!

I didn't know about that, maybe that's why it's so cheap. Either that or they are over stocked.
I just hope they are actually NM!

WOW! Sorry for the 9.2. I actually looked at the CGC census the other day and they added a 9.2. I really didn't think it was yours since it was added so late.

I'm trying to figure out why its taking so long for your books when they were signed at the same time as mine. Plus I waited longer for mine so it would ship with the magazine.

There's another SS witness on the boards NYComics. He holds private signing also for Lee, Romita and Simon. He has some coming up in March/April. He will also be having a sketch cover opportunity with Mike Lilly soon. He was the artist who did that Cap Fallen Son for me with Red Skull in the background. I will probably get to done if there's room.

LOL, hey bro no problem about the 9.2!
I'm very happy about just having that issue, and then to have it signed by Joe Simon, even sweeter!
For that comic, the grade isn't a big deal at all.
Very happy with it, I don't even know how you found those. I know you said ebay, but I search ebay a lot and I don't remember seeing them, LOL! So thanks a lot for hooking me up.

Yeah I've seen NYComics at the CGC boards, and what I like about them is they got Simon to sign books with the cool blue pen! The books they did with Joe look really great!
Mike Lilly huh? I may want in on that.
When you got your sketch was it though NYComics, or did Lilly do that for you at a con?

Do you know if CGC grades things like atrist sketch books? (I've seen they do wizards & Playboys)
Posted:  09 Jan 2010 00:01
Yes they do grade artists sketchbooks. Just make sure either its not signed or it is signed in front of a witness.

I got Mike to do the sketch myself at a Con but was going to have CGC come with me when it was done to pick it up but he wasn't able to finish it so he took it home and I went through Sean (NYComics) to make sure it got the SS label.

As for the blue pen, that's what I like about NYComics. They really impress me when it comes to making the sig perfect. I went through him for my Frazetta book and couldn't be happier. If he has another Frazetta sig opportunity I'm definitely in again. Chandler did 2 of my Cap #1 German reprints and had them signed in red. So expect something nice from him to. You can request any color sig you want and I think you can send a marker/pen that you want used for a little extra.

If you really want your books back quicker then definitely pay the extra $8 for fast track.

I contacted Chandler about getting a Josef Rubinstein Cap sketch, via the CGC baords.

The newest stuff I got is a Cap #248 9.8.
Will post pics later.
It is the John Byrne Dragin Man cover, sweet!

That.... my friend, is the holy grail of all sketch books!

Looks like Joe was a "little" rough shile sketching the book huh?
LOL!!

That is just awesome!!!
Posted:  17 Jan 2010 04:07
Thats the way they all look. He does everything out of the plastic. When it comes to Joe Simon, to me it doesnt matter what the grade is. I need to get me one of these bad!!!

Any update on your books?

Guess what just showed up today...another box from CGC!! http://boards.collectors-society.com/images/graemlins/default/2862happydance-thumb.gif

I don't know how Spidey #606 only got a 9.4?!!?
You know they were giving these away to people when they picked up their badges at the con. It went though so many hands before it even got to me.
I usually don't mind at all about grades with SS books, but a 9.4 is pretty low for a book that just came out a few months ago, LOL!

This was my 9.8 book before, and it came back a 9.8! with 2 sigs! (Joe Simon & Jim Lee)
I'm happy with that!

And now my favorite of the bunch!
I just LOVE the blue pen sig on this one!!

I looked the book over and it looks pretty flawless, I would say to me it looks a 9.4 - 9.6.
Weird that they gave it this grade because I have other 9.2 CGC books and I see many creases in the spines etc.. This one I barely see anything at all.
No matter though because a 9.2 is still not bad, and it really is a gorgeous book especially with the Joe Simon blue ink sig. One of my favs fo show!
Thanks TIM!

That Cap #1 Greman Reprint looks great Sam!! The Blue sig really looks nice on that cover! I think I'm running out of books for Joe to sign lol! I will probably only submit 3 more in the next signing. Leaning towards these..

Really good choices Tim!
I've never even seen that Wizard World variant #1 before. Looks waaaay better then the normal V.2 #1.

I've gonna get me a Brubaker #1 as well.
Damn that issue is really hot for a while now, not easy to get a deal on as everyone wants it.

Did you see Dan has the Zeck info up at the CGC boards, are you in on that?
I'm so in cause now I can finally get a little head sketch!
Only question now is what will I be sending in to be graded!?!!?
Posted:  26 Jan 2010 00:47
Thanks for the heads up! I put myself down for one. Probably my Cap Annual #8 or Cap #332 already signed by Joe Simon. Maybe I should just do both lol!!

Here's a question.......
On my CGC books for Cap #110, #111, & #113 it says Story & art by Jum Steranko.

Is this accurate?
I thought Stan Lee wrote those comics, it list both Lee & Steranko inside the comic.
Posted:  03 Feb 2010 00:47
It must be his story and maybe Lee chaanged or added a few things to it! I guess Lee wanted his name on evry book! I actually never looked inside to see the credits.

There was a documentary on Marvel, said Lee would meet with the artist and say something like Spidey fights the Lizard, gives a brief synopse, and let the artist run with the book.  The pages would come back to Lee and he'll write in the dialogues and jazz up the pages with his flamboyant writings.
Check out Steranko's SHIELD books where he practically wrote, drew, inked and colored some of those books.
What I read, Steranko took over the Cap books at 110, made 3 books, and wasn't happy when Lee and Kirby made an 'album' book for 112, breaking up his 3 issue run.  109 was an 'album' book also.  In Lee's defense, Cap died in 111, that should shake up the Marvel universe, thus the album book.  Steranko wasn't happy and left the book, ... leaving it to Romita and Buscema to do some fill-ins, and Gene Colan to do that Red Skull switching body thing.
I also noticed that Steranko never returned to Marvel after those 3 books, he did some covers or specials, but never commiting to a long run of books. I was hoping that Steranko would return to Cap, do 6 or 12 issue mini series.  He brought so much potential and appeal to Cap's history and 3 books are not enough.

Search the web, there're probably dozens of sites recording the turmoils and problems of Marvel during the 60s, especially the Steve Ditko and Stan Lee differences that ended their run on Spidey after over 30 books made.  Kirby and Lee on FF and some of Steranko's stories on his work on Shield.
