Have any of you seen the rumors all over the net this week about a big Cap announcement on June 15th?
I could post links, but do a google search it's everywhere!
First of all, Cap #600 is due early on Monday 6/15. (New comics are due every Wednesday)
Well the net is buzzing that something major will be released, either with that issue or an announcement from Marvel.
The top (2) things the Internet is rumoring....
1. It may be revealed at this time that Cap is coming back in July for Rebirth #1.
2. They are also stating that they will also be revealing the actor that will play Cap in the upcoming movie.
The net right now is BUZZING that it's Will Smith!
I know, I know, that rumor is old news, but it's resurfaced again with many people that claim they have reputable sources saying it IS Will Smith.
Of course this is the Internet, so who knows what is really true.
Do the Google search though, there are dozens of sites, comics news locations, message boards, that are talking about it.
So this Monday we'll get Cap #600 early...and we may find out about Rebirth #1, or who will play Cap in the new movie, or.....both!
It's a great time to be a Cap fan.

It better not be Will Smith!! I don't think it will be either. He had his chance at a superhero (and for whats it worth I wasn't very impressed with Hancock anyway.) I don't deny the guy can act, but I just don't think he can pull off Captain America.

There's plenty of black superheros at Marvel for Will Smith to portray like Cap's partner in the 70's.
Will Smith as Cap would just be a dorky political correct bunch of junk. It's not a matter of race it's a matter of what Cap looks like. Heck might as well have a 300 pound 5 feet tall Cap, or a female Cap, or a bald 80 year old looking Cap. Cap should look like the comics.
And I'm pretty much a big Will Smith fan too. Haven't got Hancock on DVD yet though. __________________

Does this have anything to do with Will Smith being wooed for Captain Nemo in Disney's remake/update 20 000 Leagues under the sea?
Will Smith as Captain America, forget it, NOT GOING TO SEE IT, NOT GOING TO RECOMMEND IT, WILL ABSOLUTELY HATE IT, Tired of this trend that ESTABLISHED WHITE PERSON ROLE BEING REPLACED BY AN AFTICAN-AMERICAN ACTOR, STUPIDOUS IDEA, AND I DON'T CARE IF YOU CALL ME A RACIST.
Steve Rogers/Captain America is a city-boy, grew up in New York city, father died a drunk and when Steve was very young, Irish descendent, raised by an Irish mother, worked in crummy jobs, beat up by bullies, poor, ...joined the army hoping to fight evil or destroy the Nazis.

Vincent, I agree with you .....
and the things you say about Steve are fact in the comics.
I just want to point out that.....
When has Hollywood movies ever really stayed true to it's origins?
I like Will Smith as an actor, but I don't think he's a good choice for Cap in the movie.
Hollywood though doesn't always cater to the true fans of comic books.
They tend to change things and "might" cater to casual fans if at that.
I mean I'm a huge Transformer fan, I have all the toys from the 80's, seen and own all the episodes from the 80's, etc... Then the movie came out in 2007.
Bumblebee is a ....camaro?
Megatron transforms into a plane?
Jazz isn't a porche and he dies at the end?
And what is the BS Allspark?
Hell the entire origin story was changed.
Names were the same for the most part.
My point is Hollywood didn't keep to the original story they changed it.
Same goes for anything off the top of my head, they always change it to fit more modern day audiences.
In 1989 Batman, the Joker killed Bruce Wayne's parents?
In Spider-Man, he shoots webs out of his skin on his wrist? WTF!?!?
In the comics he built web shooters!
And what about the last Captain America movie they made, Steve Rogers is the Red Skulls brother!?!?! WTF!?!
Again, I hope they don't cast Will Smith as Cap in this new movie. Some of you say no way they would do that, but hey this is Hollywood they always change things to fit in more with current times.
While I won't be happy if they do it, I still love Cap and will still give the movie a chance.
Like you said Steve Rogers was this and that, Father a drunk, he was bullied, etc...
That's true to the comics, but not necessarily true yet to the movie script they are writing.
Hollywood tends to rewrite things to what they feel would make a better movie.
Like I said they changed everything is Transformers and I still enjoyed the movie.
I got pissed off when I heard they got rid of 007 Peirce Brosnan for Daniel Craig!?!?!?
Then I saw Casino Royale and now think it was one of the best 007 movies ever.
So no matter who they hire for the role, I will always give it the movie a chance and view it with an open mind.
I'm a Cap fan and am just happy they are making a movie.

It is very very unlikely that Will Smith will be Captain America, unless they decide to explore the Cap Red White and Black story line.
That's not an impossibility, but it's very unlikely.
Now, that being said, Will Smith is just about the only actual real Star left in hollywood (a guy who can on his own regardless of the film open and open big) So based on that, I wouldn't be surprised to see Will Smith somehow featured in the film (Perhaps playing Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury's Father?) Or in the Isiah Bradley role, that is somehow tied into the greate Cap Story Line.
Now, if you pushed Cap's disaperance date back (say to 1943, you could have a story where Cap disapears, the government races to replace him and you get the Red White and Truth story opening up. You can open up the story there with Will Smith as Isaiah Bradley coming on the scene to take over for Steve Rogers and Bucky who have disapeared.
You have the mythic Cap, and still get Will Smith, which might be a very tempting option for Marvel.
all that said however, the real money is in the licenseing, and more specifically, the licensing. Right now they have a lot invested in the steve rogers captain america, and repurposing all of it seems unlikely.
Maybe they won't do it as a world war II film, but set it up sort of like the begining of Watchmen, and then have the Falcon (played by will smith) pulling Steve out of the ice some time in the future. Perhaps in this story line Samuel Wilson is a Shield Agent sent by Nick Fury to find the body of Cap?
You then have Will Smith acting in a sort of guide role for the 1940's Cap as he adjusts to our literal buck rogers type future.
I think it is highly highly unlikely that you'll see Will Smith in a nonstaring role, and highly highly unlikley that you'll see Wil Smith as Cap, but you never know.

I thought we were done with this Will Smith thing on the other posts, but to bring it up again is just guaging our responses or outrage.
Just how much change do you want?
90s Cap movie, Californian with a bum leg, tall, skinny but not muscular.
79 Tv Cap, Muscular Californian who's father created a super steroid.
Previous script for the 01 movie, unassuming army private chosen for the rebirth serum.
Ultimate Cap was suggested to be an African-American, and Cap was frozen during the Kuwait war in 1990.
A celebrity in the Cap role: That 78 Superman, they wanted Robert Redford, that's not Superman, that's Robert Redford in a silly suit. So a small, skinny African-American drinks the Rebirth serum, he becomes Will Smith. Doing this will also ruin that great team-up, Captain America and the Falcon.
There was Catwoman, but given Halle Barry's celebrity, they just didn't want to knock her down, or give her some edge (She returned the jewels after stealing them and fighting a bunch of thugs?).
I guess I'll support an unknown actor.
If there is some change, something minor, Rogue deaged, Daredevil's emblem moved to this right chest, or interesting like Spidey's bio-generated web for his movies. But to radically change Cap's history to easily sell tickets or tell a story?
The story simple, uncomplaining meek Steve Rogers from New York city, wants to fight evil, fight the Nazis, join the army and volunteers for a dangerous experiment.

Do you really get outraged or even a little upset over topics like this? If so then you need to take a chill pill bro. LOL!
It's a message board where we can discuss things, anyone who takes the topic & gets upset by it just shouldn't participate in it at all. C'mon that's as silly as Will Smith being Cap! Ha ha!
And yeah it "was" discussed months ago and I thought it was over too. I brought up this time around again because the rumors have resurfaced all over the Internet again. People have stated that other actors who have tried out for the part stated they felt the part was going to Smith.
I read it several places elsewhere, and thought I'd let you guys know that every ones talking about it again.
I also stated it's the internet, so who knows what to believe out there. (In other words it's probably false)
That's it bro, I've already stated I'm NOT for it.
You don't need to keep explaining why a black Cap is a bad idea when everyone already agrees with you.
The only point I was making is not to put it past Hollywood to rewrite something and make it worse. They have done it many times before. I hope they don't, but history speaks for itself.
This topic is NOT only about Will Smith. The main topic is that rumors are saying there "might" be some kind of announcement next week. It might be about Rebirth, it might be about Steve Rogers, it might be about the actor they choose to be Cap. Again I only brought up Smiths name as it was all over the Internet once again.
It's cool man, I didn't want to upset anyone about this as the whole thing (W. Smith) is ridiculous sounding.
It's a message board and I was just playing the part of informer of what others web sites have said about next weeks supposed "announcement"
For me... I'm just having fun here because it's such a great time to be a Cap fan.
The movie is finally being made, the current story line is one of the hottest stories out there, rumors of Steve coming back, issue #600, Rebirth #1, Cool statues and toys due out this summer, it's just WOW!
I'm very pleased and excited to be a Cap fan right now.

Sorry, not a whole lot is happening now, I get depressed, no good movies since Star Trek, not looking forward to the GIJoe (August release? Thats when they dump critical panned movies, plus those IronMan-ripoff suits in the trailers?) I'm going to step out, stop posting for awhile, stop reading entertainment stuff, ...go on vacation. I still love reading your posts.

And as for GIJoe, no I haven't even seen the trailer yet. I'm going to have to go search for it online, I'm curious as to how it looks.

I think it's safe to say that Steve Rogers is coming back in the Reborn limited series. Or as it is now known on Marvel.com Captain America: Reborn. Check it out for yourself!
http://marvel.com/digitalcomics/free/
Go to the Free Comics section on the site and either click on Captain America #50 or Marvel Spotlight #18, and on the back page of each digital comic is the Reborn promo with none other than Captain America himself in the center of the page! It sure looks like the original Cap costume, and I really don't think its 50's Cap either.

Just a thing with regard to Halle Berry as Cat Woman, I think that was done as a refernce to Ertha Kitt playing the role in the T.V. show (she will always be Cat Woman to me). Likewise the Catwoman story was completley unrelated to the Catwoman story presented in the comics. It was really just Catwoman in name only.
That being said, with Cap at least there is a story involving an african american cap within the story, so it's not impossible. Likewise, for me I guess, if they cast Will Smith as Cap, but kept true to everything else in the story, I could live with that.
However, since 6/15 has come and gone, and there is no will Smith is Cap announcement I'd say this is just one more rummor that has proven unfruitful.
My money is still on Armie Hammer if the JLA movie is truly dead. He's relativly uknown, young muscular and can act. After that it's up to the writers who I am hopefull about.
