O.k. so maybe you saw this on IMDB or just browsing the net:

http://www.reelzchannel.com/movie-news/3031/seth-rogen-will-play- ...

Now, April 1st is the publication date of this article, so it is of course highly suspect, but I saw Seth Rogen on the Daily show recently, and well, the guy is now fairly cut.

You ad the everyman concept put forth in the article, and the idea seems less and less ridiculous.

Now, I'm not saying Seth Rogen would be a great Captain America, but I am saying, that it might not be the worst way they could go.

Seth is a physically big guy, you put him in the gym and he'd be a physical match for Cap.  Add to it his easy going personality, and quite leading man good looks, who knows.

Any thoughts, aside from "this is so obviously an april fools day prank!"?

Ha ha I love Seth Rogan!

However if he is anywhere near this movie, I don't think anyone will ever take this movie seriously.

Did you say that he is fairly cut now too?
Really?!?!
I just can't imagine that.

Thanks for the link though, I got a laugh out of it.

OK, I've sat back and watched tons of people be named as possible for playing the part of Captain America with even adding a couple myself. Personally I think as far as build for the actor , please remember when the character was created and appeared for his first ten years he was built like a decathlon athelete NOT one of the WWE guys. I mean really, how fast and far can these hulkish guys run? How agile are they for doing acrobatic or martial arts moves? Reread some of the 1960's Tales of Suspense stories where Cap tells how the size of your adversary is  not important and you can use his size and weight to your benefit.

I agree with the decathalete issue, which is why I never worried too much about the physical apperance of the actor.  Pretty much any actor getting a payday will put in the eight hours a day in the gym to be a perfectly sculpted athelete for the film.

That being said, a lot of wrestlers and others are more athletic now adays then they were back in the 80's.  Since the scripted nature of wrestling has been declared by the WWE they've started to rely more on luche libre style acrobatic moves and professionals to provide the spectical and fewer big guys shouting (though there is still plenty of that too).

I am unsure if no one will take the film seriously with Seth Rogen in the title.  That's going to depend on his performance more than anything else.  If he's decent the reveiws will be "Wow Seth Rogen really pulls off this complex character in a realistic and believable way" and that will undo much of the preconceived notions that people have about Seth.

he is no longer the chubby hubby he's been in the past, and he commented on this while on the daily show.  It is possible that his recent loss of fat was part of the negotiations with the Cap film (makeing sure he could pull of the transformation), if this isn't an april fools joke like I said, and without the fat the man is quite handsom.

His recent film "Observe and Report" where he plays a mentally unhinged mall cop should give people a sense if he can act beyond his stoner personea (so far reviews are mixed) if all that falls into place it might work.

Having someone with sense of humor in the role would allow Cap to be aware of his use as a propaganda tool, while at the same time rationalizing what needs to be done.

I dont' know, it might be intersting.

One other thing that I like about the idea, is that it is so against type, both for Cap and for Seth.  I think in that Steve was just some kid who was in the right place at the right time, is something that gets forgotten in the myth of Captain America.  Like so many non-empowered soldiers, Steve was just some schlub from Hell's Kitchen who wanted to do his part for his country.

That everyman quality is often overlooked in Steve, that simplicity.  Going too big with the character might be the exact wrong way to go.

I don't know if Seth is the guy for the role, but whomever they get, it should be someone that you don't immedeatly expect.  Someone who is just another face in the crowd, just like Steve was.

Seth Rogan is linked to a proposed Green Hornet movie.  Some diet, workout and that green trenchcoat could hide that bulky getting-to-look-like that southern sheriff in James Bond's Live and let die.
Anyway, Green Hornet doesn't do all the action, it's his valet, Kato, who does all the fighting, kicking butt and driving that cool black car (The cool stuff).  Anyone familar with the Green Hornet, would know that Bruce Lee starred as Kato, and in Hollywood, talk on the Green Hornet movie went from Kevin Smith directing to someone else.  Talk is whether you want a male Kato or female.  Jett Lee (Lethal weapon 4, One), or Zang Zing (Rush Hour 2).  I hope not Jackie Chan, because Rogan is a funny man, and someone a little serious should be beside him.

Well, no, Actually, Green Hornet began as a radio seriel in Detroit I believe, the same station that created the lone ranger.  The Green Hornet was sort of a modern day "for the time" up date of the lone ranger, zoro mythos.

The kung fu was purely and addition of bruce lee in the short lived television seriel.  In the original source material the hornet kato dynamic was much more akin to Lone Ranger and Tonto or Bat Man and Robin.

Like I said, Seth's physique is the least of the worries.  If he got the part he'd be in shape.  He'd probably fall back off the chilidog wagon after the photography is done (unless there is a rider in his contract to avoid that so that he doesn't look bloated in the press junkets).

Think about Bruce willis, no one pudgier than He in the moonlighting phase of his career and even sort of in the first die hard.  Now, the guy looks like he just got out of prison.  Why because he's paid very well to look that way.

So yeah, the physique is nothing, I could play Cap physically given the time and money, what's necessary is someone to play the character.  I don't know if that's Seth, but he could bring something (in the way Keaton brought something to Batman that no one expected) that another more traditional action star might not.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't like Keaton as Batman, but Batman was popular and successful enough to go on with that flamboyant/flashy style for 3 more movies until Nolan came along and made Batman a strong dramatic production and treated that material with respect and seriousness.  I don't see Captain America that capable to hold out until a good movie will be made.
Keye Luke, Grasshopper's teacher in that 70s Kung fu western played Kato in the movie serial.   When the creators sold the Lone Ranger to movie serials, the new owners refused to acknowledge or mention any ties to the Green Hornet.  Plus, Green Hornet was the first time I saw kung fu done with cool action.

Rogan is getting to be like Leslie Neilson from Airplane and the Naked gun series, the general audience is not taking him serious and only wanting to see him in comedic roles.  It took Steve Martin years and dozens of bad movies to get a semi-dramatic role, Planes Trains and Automobiles.  He is currently a rising star and people are going to see his movies.  In Green Hornet, if they follow some of the best parts of that independent GH comics that came out during the 90s, like the 2 families fighting crime theme, with some light-hearteness without going into satire, it can be an entertaing fun movie.

Wow, I'm very surprised at some of the comments about Seth Rogan on here. For one, it sounds like some of you actually think he got the role and two that he would be pretty good!?

Look, I understand that Steve prior to Operation Rebirth was an everyman, actually less, he was so much less in fact the military in WWII didn't take him. And they took pretty much ANYBODY and EVERYBODY during that time in order to fill up the ranks of the US armed forces to fight the war.

However, this was an April Fool's joke for one. And two, Rogen would be a terrible choice for CAP, pre-SSS Steve or even Bucky for that matter. It seems that a lot of you have forgotten what makes a hero, at least in the comic world, which is where CAP is from. I don't want my SUPER SOLDIER being and everyman. I don't want the guy who is suppossed to thrash entire Nazi military units, to be the average joe off the street. Maybe if he had super powers, but wait CAP doesn't have super powers, he's in super good shape, very strong for not having powers, and is an incredible tactian (sp?), fighter, and most of all a leader. And CAP is in EVERY way a leader. Meaning he as to look and act like a leader. Not an everyman. The everyman thing is what is killing the action movies today. You think Arnold and Stallone where huge because they seemed like everybody else? What about John Wayne? Everyman? Or Elvis? Everyman? Hell no. We (as fans) what somebody that is better that us. Just look at Superman. He is supposed to have a better moral code that just about anybody else. If he didn't, remember, Power corrupts, and nobody has more power that Superman. Cap is the Marvel U Superman and HAS to be the person that EVERYBODY looks up to. That's the everyman and superhero alike. CAP is the pinnicle of superhero-dom. He is pretty much a regular guy (only that he doesn't have superpowers of course) and still he commands some of the most powerful beings in the Marvel world (Thor?). Not to mention all the other Avengers. I'm pretty sure the 'everyman' isn't going to be marvelled at by other superheroes and regular joe's alike.

So let's remember that CAP is the hero that no other hero can be because he will give his all and go farther than any super being, regular joe, or anybody else could fathom, all without superpower. He is, superHUMAN, that means, he's buff AND can run far and FAST, he's Ripped, flexible, ultra athletic and every other supreme physical attribute you can think of and that is to include handsome. Read those same old CAP books and you'll see that women always refer to him as a hunk. The only hunk Rogen is going to be referred to his a hunk of chewed up bubblegum (he's great though).

Let's keep CAP a hero, huh? Not an everyman. If we wanted everymen, we'd just look around the realworld and not go searching for them in comics and movies.

NEIL FIFER is by far the BEST choice to play Captain America!

He's NOT a pencil-necked 'ex-model' like Tatum (LOL) or a lightweight like McConaughey (who admits to not even knowing who Captain America is... ugh!) And not yet another 'lightweight' like this 193-pounder TJ listed above - lol - that has NONE of the features of the Captain.

Neil Fifer knows the Captain very well as he once had a LARGE comic collection (some 10,000 books - with a LOT of 'First Editions!'). He Published a couple of magazines on the hobby 27 - 29 years ago - that STILL sell on eBay (Comic Cellar)!

He's an old friend of Todd McFarlane's and Richard Comely (Creator of Canada's Super Hero - Captain Canuck!)

He's athletic, and is aged close to Downey Jr. (realistic considering what the Captain has been through while still considering the time spent in suspended animation).

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1292175/

250 lbs., 6' tall, cleft chin, light blue eyes.

Also comes from a Military Family.

THIS GUY (not ANYone else) is on the Director's and Producer's radar.

This is the man to play CAPTAIN AMERICA!

I'm sure he's a great guy.  The age is a concern for me if the film is set in WWII since Cap is still a teen hero at that time.  But hey that can always be fixed with makeup.

It better be in WWII, I love the WWII Cap better than the modern-day one. (I like the Winter-Soldier better than Bucky!)
