I've been thinking a lot if i wanted to tell my cosplay story on the forum, and i was not sure if I wanted to tell a long story of the process it took to make my new costume or just show pictures of it. But what made me want to tell the story was when a long time friend stop by to visit me at my office. He was so surprise by the way I look he said what happen and I said i wanted to cosplay Captain America at the new york comic con this year. He was like comic what, hes from Brazil and not really into pop culture so it took me a bit to explain to him what comic cons are and then from there he ask me to tell him my story and the process it took for me to make my new suit.
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/Cap.jpg
That pic is from 2008 it wasn't my first con but it was the first time I meet David Cap Santiago and he was a really cool guy and I was like i would really like too cosplay it just seem like something i would enjoy doing so fast forward several too 2010 and because of situation at the time i didn't get the chance to make my own cap suit. So i did what any other person rushing to get a costume in October i ran to rickies and i was able to get one of the Cap suit they have.
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/DSC08983.jpg
I called this sad puppy day 1. The costume wasn't but the mask was so horrible if you get that marvel muscle cap suit I am warning you get the mask somewhere else cuz its horrible.
The Second day i had gotten a mask from online i had order it early but i didn't get till day two but it help the costume at least look better.
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/D3C0031.jpg
By day three it almost felt natural wearing the suit you really have a respect for the character that is Captain America, you appreciate the more what he represent not only to you but to the people around you.
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/D2C0102.jpg
Shortly after comic con i decided i was ready to fully invest my self in making a cap suit. This was the first time i was lead into the forum and especially this post on the forum. You guys that said i got this part of my suit from this person or i got that part of my suit from that person much respect and admiration goes out to you.
The first part was finding a base of what suit i would want to do. I decide to do classic Captain America. There something i can really relate too with the Steve Rogers from the regular Marvel Universe that made me wanna do him more than anybody else.
Shortly after comic con was Halloween and my job said we could come dress up for it so i decide to wear the Ricky cap suit but i had already pick up a military belt to go with the new suit i was building
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/photo3.jpg

I got the military belt from amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com/10-pocket-Cartridge-Belt-Olive-Drab/dp/B000 ...

The next thing that i pick up for the costume was the boots and can i tell you that was probably the hardest parts to find the right boots it took me forever but i ended up buying them from a Chinese cosplay store on ebay

http://stores.ebay.com/human-go-cosplay-costume-store?_trksid=p43 ...
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/boots.jpg
Again I am building my new suit of the old one but as a reference point of what I'm trying to achieve at the end. The boots are decent they aren't the best the bottom sole is horrible but its workable they have the right look and i put some insoles inside to try and to make them more comfortable.

Next was the mask I order the mask from
http://www.xtremedesignfx.com/ They did a really good job on making the mask. I think the mask more than anything else has the most difficult part of this cap suit but it does make the suit come together at the end.
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/GenericCowl4.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/DSC09711-1.jpg

Now the next part of making this suit was actually working out. When i first started making this suit i was 220 pounds and i really didn't have a good look to do Captain America being honest i needed to lose some weight and that i also consider part of the costume. I had Order a scale mail to be made from
http://www.xtremedesignfx.com/ (I'll show it next promise) So in the mean time i started working out

These 2 pics are at a wedding i was in the next day i join 24 fitness

http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/ingriswedding2.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/ingriswedding.jpg

I Started with a plan to change my diet I eat mostly salad and chicken i would eat a subway in the morning for breakfast for lunch i would have a cesar salad and then i would do an hour on the elliptical and then i would do 45 min of ab workouts and then an hour of lifting weights for 4 months. I went from 220 pounds to 170 pounds.

By the way the gloves also came from
http://www.xtremedesignfx.com/ and they did a really good job on them to be honest they do really great work it is expensive but the quality is there. My only complaint with them is after you get your stuff from them they really lack on follow up costumer service especially when you have question of how to take care the stuff they sent you.

http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/photo5.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/photo52.jpg

So while in the process of working out and losing weight i start looking at other places to get the flag shirt and the pants. And then boom the Scale mail finally get here and its great here are the pictures for it

http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/Vestfrontside.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/2.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/2011-08-05203754.jpg

So now that i had the mask and the scale mail i need to get the flag and the tights and shield that toy shield was starting to look kinda silly at this point. So a friend from work told me about The Baroness latex. I've never have tried latex but being at a lost too how to finish the costume i went to her especially after look at a shirt she had made that was posted on her website.
http://baroness.com/
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/73P83656master.jpg

I meet up with the Baroness and brought the scale mail and the mask and show her and she like ok this is awesome i wanna work with you ill make the top and the bottom pants, and i was like great. I just wanna say that if you need any latex work done for any suit you guys  should definitely check her out she does great work and is awesome to work with.

So the next thing with her working on the top and the legs i started looking for a shield. Now i think finding a reasonably made shield with a decent price tag was really hard to find and a lot of them had the rivets showing in the front and none you could wear in your back. So after months of looking for a shield i finally found the right one.

http://www.costumearmour.com/

I pick up the shield from them and let me tell you its great perfect if you need a Captain America Shield get it from them and you wont be disappointed

http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/DSC09904.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/DSC09906.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/DSC09909.jpg

So that's the shield and the finally everything was coming together and here a look at some pics with the shirt and the pants still incomplete but so you guys to get the idea of how everything looks together.

http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/DSC09912.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/DSC09918.jpg
http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq55/thegekkostatee/DSC09921.jpg

And then a few weeks after finally meet up with the Baroness again and she had finish the top and the bottom and for the first time since Last October from waiting to make my new cap suit it was finally complete a year work done right before new york comic con

Started working on an Avengers movie style Cap for this year's Infinity Wars paintball scenario, thought I'd post pics of my W.I.P.

Pieces laid out and pinned to the shirt...http://www.flickr.com/photos/paintballcaptainamerica/7399028730/

Mostly sewn down, ready for detailing...

Almost done with the shirt at this point...

Shirt pretty much done. Just some minor tweaks left for fitting...

Paired up with the pants I plan to use on my mannequin...might rework the helmet on the floor beside it...

Test fit using my First Avenger mask...

Working on the gauntlets right now and sketching out ideas for the boots...

This is what I have so far for my Avengers style Cap. I haven't made the boots or utility belt yet and I will likely make a more accurate mask/helmet but for now my First Avenger helmet is a good stand in.http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8149/7563905646_17594eb94d.jpg

Hello fellow Sentinels of Liberty.  I've enjoyed the many representations of the Captain in this thread. Here's my comic and The Avengers costumes.

This is an awesome thread. I would love to do something like this, trying to get my butt in shape before I even consider squeezing into some tights.
