I was just thinking... What about Jason Statham? To those who may see who???  Think of these movies: Transporter, Transporter 2, Crank, Death Race, Italian Job, Cellular, etc.  Bad idea?  Would you prefer a slow Captian America with the American Gladaiator that is rumored? I mean this is the same guy that colored himself green for the hulk. I have heard Will Smith, and he is a good actor and I don't mean to be racist, but Captain America was White.  I have heard Matthew McConaughey.  I like McConaughey, but does America really need a naked bongo drum player as the hero that embodies America?  I mean some people think that is the American dream... I have also heard Brad Pitt, but as probably everybody nows, he would make a better Thor.  I have also heard good ol' Leo Dicaprio... Let that wash over you for a second. The dude in the movie that your girlfriend drug you to see. The dude that banged Kate Winslet and then drowned... LAME!!!  I know you may saw but CD9, Jason Statham was born in England, but was Christian Bale not also born in the British Isles?  Be glad to hear people's thoughts.

Not a bad idea, I don't think he just right. Great Topic though.

The nationality of the actor who plays Captain America is not that important; the ability to portray all the complexities of character and maintain the integrity of the character and the book is crucial.  If Heath Ledger were alive, I would think of him; he had a proven record of complex roles well done, and his final role of the Joker was superb acting!  If this were decades ago, I would also think of Charlton Heston.  He had the acting ability and the persona to pull it off and well, but that would have been decades ago.  I wait and see who will be selected.  When I saw the newsflash on google a few days ago, I was saying to myself, "Are they joking????"  In another post, I dislike playing with the integrity of a book.  There is artistic license but that was over the top.  Fortunately, that seems to have been quashed.

It was one thing for Ledger to play the insane killer Joker, but as Cap I don't  think so. People that don't take Cap serious enough as it is would have jumped at the chance to run with the brokeback mountain jokes. It would have killed the box office. I don't care if he made the best performance of all time nobody would have taken it serious.

Cap needs a Christopher Reeve kind of guy that can make wearing the suit seem natural.

I like Jason Statham a lot. I think he's a great actor and fun to watch, but I don't see him as Cap. He's too rough around the edges. He'd made a better Nick Fury.

I think you have to imagine this kid named Steve Rogers. He loves America. He's idealistic. Maybe kind of a nerd by today's standards, but in his heart there burns the fire of a warrior. Given his initial age he probably should be kind of a baby faced kind of guy. At least be very youthful in appearance. When he's not kicking butt he should come across as a guy you can't imagine would even punch anybody. Just imagine the Waltons John Boy or something, only a lot more muscular.

No, Statham is a NO.

1.  No hair.
2.  Sounds more like Jango Fett or a clone trooper than Cap.
3.  Too gruff to be considered a shining beacon of truth.

He's, don't get me wrong, an AWESOME action-movie actor.  But no, a guy like Statham has TOO much machismo to be credible as a former 98-pound weakling.

As a "festivly-plump" kind of guy, I know the mentality of a less than peak-athleticism man.  Small stature usually creates 2 kinds of people:  the likable yet shy person, and the loudmouth "look at me" tough guy that's looking for a reason to be provoked.  I really don't see Steve Rogers as being the later.  At least not enought to lend credence to the Statham strut.

One of (the many) tough parts of casting:  first he has to be an idealist to take on the experiment, i.e. more innocent, but secondly as he comes from a not posh life and has had to struggle to also show that he has the internal strength and courage to get through whatever the Red Skull, Hitler, and WW II throw at him, and thirdly the toughness to survive especially with his core ideals and morality intact.

Stature doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot.  Take Chuck Norris.  I've met him and he's short but he's immense on screen

YOU MET CHUCK NORRIS???

I have to agree with Tim's opinion about Ledger. i wouldn't want him either.

I like the idea of Eric Johnson (Whitney from Smallville, and the latest incarnation of Flash Gordon). He'd be good if he were a little more muscular and not so skinny.

Is he the main charactor? If he is, a little to young for that...I'm going to half to give that a thumbs down.
