Mike O'hearn also known as Titan from American Gladiators is going to be playing Captain America and Conan in the upcoming 2009 movie. Before you say he is a musclehead-check out his awesome performance as Superman in the World's Finest fan video on youtube. This guy was born to be Captain America!

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, Marvel already approved only these actors to pick for the movie:
Leanordo D.
Mark Paul
Casper Van Dien

I have to admit, he has the look.

Still, plenty of time till the movie comes out for more speculation.

Marvel will want this movie to be taken seriously; they won't get an American Gladiator to play the role.

Yeah, you're right, Cap hasn't been takin' seriously ever since the movie 1990 movie came out, Marvel needs to make a good, awesome and based off the comics Cap movie. They won't want one of those guys playing, he probaly doesn't even know how to act.

Although he hasn't had a huge range of roles he has some acting experience.

His IMDB profile Micheal O'Hearn puts him in 7 roles outside his appearances in various sports related shows.

He has martial arts training and natural body building titles. Physically he's there. Acting ability will be his weak spot if the message boards are to be believed.

He's kind of a T.V. movie person.

Mike O'Hearn is really built, so I have to give him that. He is a martial artist too, so as far as asthetics go, he's a good match. I don't think he'll really get the part though.

He just brings a 'cheese' factor to his acting. He's great on American Gladiators and romance novel covers (I guess?) but I don't see him as CAP. Would be great for doing body double work or some stunt/fighting shots where you can't tell it's him, but in order for that to work, you need to have a pretty built actor playing CAP in the first place.

He's got about 30lbs on me (if he really is 263 like it says on AG) but we are the same height, so maybe he could come down 10-15lbs, and I could go up 10-15 lbs and it'd be great.

If marvel is ever going to make a Cap movie it better be, 'cause 1990 some of us (that where alive) were exicted to see the movie, it was a piece of crap.
Though I half to admit they did the Red Skull pretty good.
Captain America? You could tell when a stunt double came in, Matt S. doesn't have any muscles you can see when he has a shirt on, yet you can tell the the stunt double came in he was was buff.

Back to the Titan guy, first of all he like a mini Incredible Hulk...expecpt not green, he has the look but I'd give him 2 out of 5.
Marvel wouldn't want a T.V. gladiator to be a Cap, I think they can do at least better. I mean the guy probaly can't run that fast, since he's sooo buff.
he'd be like a backup choice. I wouldn't prefer him but...you know what I mean.

I would stick to Mike as more of a T.V. guy, Marvel needs to make this Cap movie serious.

When did the ability to run fast become a problem? Will Quicksilver really be hitting 200mph? Also, I'm not a body builder but I don't see any reason that a mixed training athlete, even one as bulked as Mike, would be slow.

Let's just go with the facts as they stand.

Looks: Okay
Build: Definitely
Fighting Ability: Definitely
Acting Ability: Maybe not

Acting ability is important, so I'd say three out of five. If he ends up alongside someone like Robert Downey Jr he'll need that ability to avoid being overshadowed (think Orlando Bloom being totally overwhelmed by Johnny Depp in The Pirates of the Caribbean) and Cap does need his own defined character.

I think he's great, broad shoulder and thin waist. Lets see how he runs (not looking like a lumbering oaf), moves and swing his arms and legs in cool fighting scenes. Hopefully he's tall and can speak properly, so that he doesn't sound silly or looks like he's reading lines (check out any movies with Micheal Pare or that Olivia John and John Travolta movie, the two of us, bad acting and just looked like they were reading lines).

First of all I was talking about the mask and the make up. Second ofall I KNOW that he was German, not Italian, but both Germans and Italians worked together, what's the difference.

My criteria for whoever the actor is:

1)  Most important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Acting ability!!!!  Steve Rogers/Captain America is a very very complex character.  He becomes even more so if they plot it with his being resurrected in the present.  If only Charlton Heston were alive and a whole lot younger!  sigh!

2) Fighting ability is probably a tie with build but edges it out.  Speaking from experience as having taken martial arts, at some point the stunt man has to bow out and the actor take over.  Without the ability to move well, it will show up as awkward, especially with a transition from stunt man to actor.

3) Build is sort of tied but as I said above the fighting ability/movement edges it out.  If there is a little shortfall, I have a feeling the actor will work out to enhance his physique.

I left out looks because that it always the first thing the producers will look for, but as important as that may be, acting ability to me is first and foremost!

Vincent, he's 6'3" which is the concern some people have. Coming up with Thor who is supposed to be taller than Cap is going to be difficult.

Where can we find a 6'6" Nordic body builder with godlike good looks?

Exactly.

6'3, good enough.  Sallinger was tall but lacked that broad shoulders and huge chest.  With that rubber costume, he looked bigger, but watching it on video, it still looked like a rubber costume.
Check out the pics for the new GIJoe movie and note how thin and dynamic those suits look.
At that height, Bucky would look like a kid, if you had someone looking like Shia Labeuf (He's a little too old) standing next to him.  The female lead would have to be taller than 5'2 so she would be in the same scene (That's was a problem with the female guests in that 80s Knightrider series with Hasselhoff.).

er...sorry, I don't see a big guy like that showing much in the way of agility, I could be wrong.  Still, it's hard to think of Mr. Hearn as doing a triple gainer from the ground, throwing a shield, coreening the discus off three nazis and landing in anything but a slump.

Maybe It's just a scewed perspective, How tall is he?  6 foot even?  The pics make him look a bit taller.

at least he's still a facist.  I still think if you painted Tommy Lee Jones' face red, you'd have the perfect red skull mask.

Olympic pommel-horse/stationary rings athletes would probably be best in the costume. No, MOH is problably better as a thor. Look at Freman's first picture.

Tell me you can't imagine him with Mjolnir (meol-nir), long hair, a cape, spouting something about "thou vile villain, taste the wrath of the odin-son."

Has anyone caught the Superhero Flix site or newsposts on MTV yet?  Within the last two hours, the rumour is out and around that Will Smith has been approached about playing Captain America!

Will Smith! You have to be kidding me!
Posted:  09 Sep 2008 12:24
What's wrong with a black Cap? I mean they did that to Nick Fury and everyone seems to have no problem.
Personally I feel both changes of ethnic backgrounds to be as stupid as trying to cast a white guy for The Black Panther or Luke Cage.
Leave the characters as they were originally written.
Posted:  09 Sep 2008 14:10
I heard Smith was asked about Superman before taking the role of I am Legend. He said he turned it down because he knows Superman is supposed to be white; we know now that Smith has some sense.
Posted:  09 Sep 2008 15:32
Personally, I have no problem with the ethnicity issue.  My problem is the following:

Acting ability.  Whilst he is a multi talented man, I don't think he can capture the complexity of character.

Leave the book as written.  I happen as one who writes and has  had things published in fanzines and in newspapers, am not pleased when my work is monkeyed around with.  As a singer, I also object when a piece of music is altered for no more than being 'politically correct', i.e. subbing humankind for mankind.

Its my point of view that since Steve Rogers was white in 1941 when he first began, he should be white in 2011 as well.
Posted:  10 Sep 2008 03:10
Again, it's the integrity of the book that is important.  It may end up being nothing but it is out there, whether to generate shock reaction or no.

Time will tell.
