Hey PS Shchmucker,
Don't know why I didn't see you message when it was posted the other day, but to answer you ... I love it!! I've had it out of the box a few times and am glad I waited to get this one. I don't have a Factory X one but from seeing those and having this one I do thimk they made a few improvements.
As to having it displayed we are in the process of redoing our computer room/office and once that's done its just a matter of which wall to hang it on.
One BIG GRRRR at you though for posting this new triangular shield, now I'd love to get that as well for a companion piece. I know its now "color correct" with the first from Cap #1 but it is a beauty.

Thanks JBB!
I still haven't received mine and I pre-ordered back in June 2008!
I'm trying to find out what's the hold up.
I do have the Factory X version, and this newer version that you have seems to blow it away. I love that it's domed, my factory X version is like a painted flat trash can lid.
Gotta have the dome!

Hello to all

First post from a long time Cap fan (although I have been following the board for a while now)

Just received my shield after ordering it in June of last year from BBTS...Better late than never I guess. It is truly a work of art. By the sequence number On mine, I dont think many are many left unless you go the ebay route.  Can anyone offer a comparison between this and the Factory X?

I just got mine from BBTS today.
#731 out of 750.
Most collectors like early numbers, but in the case of these shields I think the latter ones will be more sought after as they have less flaws from what I've seen & heard.
Mine is pretty much flawless, simply amazing.
I have a friend who just got his and said the same thing.
Also at another message board, ditto. The 11 month late shields seemed to be way beter in quality, like they tightened up quality control.
All the early # shields I've seen and heard of online have some ugly flaws to them like a dent & dings in the shield where the bolts are.

Anyways, mine is awesome, just love it!

Jelwayfan-
Hey welcome to the board!
Sure here is a pic I took for you comparing the Mueseum Replicas & the Factory X versions.

I received my Museum Replicas Captain America Shield today. I was very unimpressed with the Factory X shield it felt like a garbage can top and looked unfinished and cheap which it was not I paid over $300 for it. It was far from a true replica of Captain America's Shield it was only 27" it had no handle only two leather straps and it was not the correct shape it flattened out instead of being curved. I had read on some forums that people bought both and liked the Factory X shield better and kept that one so I did not have high hopes for the Museum Replicas shield. I did have a glimmer of hope because Sideshow sold it and they only carry good stuff. Well I opened the package today and I was pleasantly surprised with the shield. First I have no idea why someone would keep the Factory X shield over the Museum Replicas shield. The Museum Replicas is so far superior to the Factory X shield. First off the shield is 30" like in the comic, the shape is curved as in the comic. There is a strap for the forearm and a handle to hold like in the comic. The build quality is so much better it has more weight to it because it is thicker the edges are finished and painted unlike the Factory X which are unfinished and unpainted. The paint looks to be thicker and better applied. I think the darker blue in the middle is more correct. If you are a fan of Captain America and you want a true replica there is only one choice between these two shields. I have no idea why someone would keep the Factory X shield over the Museum Replicas shield. There was a much smaller number of Museum Replicas shields made then Factory X shields so the price is higher to buy one now but I think it is worth it if you are a true Captain America fan or you want a real replica of Cap's shield. Here are some pics and I have a video review uploading so you can get a better look at the shields.

Just watched your YouTube Video, thanks for the review.
I agree with your points when comparing the Factory X to the Museum Replicas versions.

You sound VERY disapointed with the Factory X.
What you have to remember though is that the Factory X version has been around for a while. It came out in 2002, and for years it was the ultimate shield to have.
There was no other official shield released to compare to it, so for years the Factory X shield have been the shields to get.
And the prices got crazy at one point, about a year before the Museum Replicas version was released the Factory X shields peaked on ebay for close to $1400.
No joke.
I actually had several Facory X shields at one point.
When I heard that the Museum Replicas one was in the process of being made, and that I saw ones on ebay the selling in the $1000 range, I quickly sold 2 (out of my 3) of my shields on ebay. One of them I sold for $1000, and the other one at $1350.
Nice profit being I bought the shields at $250 many years ago.

Again, I do agree with you and your many points in comparing the two shields.
I just can't hate the Factory X though, because it was the best out there at one time.
As for now, I still enjoy having it.
I dress up as Captain America and the Facrory X is my #1 choice to carry with me at a con or Halloween, or whatever. It's lighter and just more comfortable to carry in the long term. Plus being there is not much dome there, again it makes it easier to carry around and pose with.

However if someone is just going to get one shield, and one shield only...then the Museum Replicas is the way to go. (especialy if you just want to display it)
I'm not sure what they are going for now, but a year ago when I got mine it was only $275-$300 for the Museum Replicas version. Nice price so I had bought two.

Here is a pic of one of my Museum Replica shields about to be signed by Stan Lee.....

That is awesome that you had your shield signed, Congrats
Posted:  17 May 2010 10:19
Yeah but boy was that a pain in the ass to drag all the way down to San Diego to get signed ha ha!
An 8 hour drive for me, it was a fun con though.
Plus it was my first time meeting Stan at the time.

It is that 3 hour stretch between getting on 5 and the Grapevine that is killing me, Sam. Although I'm no fan of driving through LA traffic either. Lucky me, I get to do it twice in the next two months as I'm going to Disneyland in June too. Ugh.
