Captain America Film Will Be a Period Piece Plus McConaughey is Not Involved!

Written by Stephanie Sanchez

IESB's Robert Sanchez spoke with Marvel big wig Kevin Feige today about the new Avengers film they have planned starring Captain America!

After the huge success of IRON MAN, Marvel announced a few films on their horizon including The First Avenger: Captain America set to debut in 2011.

Feige gave us a few updates about the film!

IESB asked Feige if the Captain America film would be a period piece. He confirmed yes, the story will take place during World War II, just like the comic book origin story. He says they plan to remain very faithful to the source material and completely traditional.

Feige also confirmed that it was definitely the Captain America shield that was seen in IRON MAN on Tony Stark's work-station as he's removing his suit for the first time. It's just an Easter Egg and probably won't have anything to do with the Capt. America story.

What about that casting rumor making its way around the web that Matthew McConaughey would be taking on the role? Nope, Feige says that's absolutely false.

Hells Yeah!

Thank God!

Does anyone have a stillshot of the cap shield in the iron man film? Youtube is blocked on our computers over here, so i can't view the video.

You can say that again! Phew!!!

I don't have a still of the shield scene but I did see it in the movie after reading about in and seeing the still online, not on youtube, when I went to see Iron Man the second time.

Hope they can get Paul Walker for the role. The guy is the spitting image of Steve Rogers.

More like the spitting image of Keanu Reeves. He's not a very good actor and he's pretty petite. I saw him when I worked on Flags of Our Fathers. He's just not right for the part. Way too skinny.

I have confidense in Marvel Studios.

Me too. I think they are going to do CAP right. They have to if they want to pay off that huge loan they took out from Merrill Lynch. Of course, they want it to be a good movie too but you can't forget that it is a business, and when it comes to movies, the best movies win. Like Iron Man.

Historically speaking, Cap's got the short end of the stick with all of his attempts to film. The 1940s serial, the 70s Evil Capn' Knieval movies, and the 1990 disaster straight to vhs.

I can dig the cartoon for all its classic cheesiness, but even that was poor quality for the 60s.

Well that sort of gives me a shred of hope.   Again, it remains to be seen if they stick to thier word.   I have to reiterate what I said before in another post and put this whole "Best actor for Cap" to rest:
No McConaughey
No Pitt
No Walker
No "the bad guy from Walking Tall"
No random blond actor from a random soap opera.

I still say Marvel studios needs to look at Wade Harlan very closely, if not, Jim Cavieziel.  Again, they can die his hair and bulk him up a bit.   Very good actor and he would do the character traits of Cap justice.  Other than that, I'm a little worried on who will be cast.   If they are talking HHH from the WWE to take the helm for Thor, it makes me tremble a bit.  Don't get me wrong I like wrestling but HHH would be best suited for Loki or some other bad guy.  Pitt---maybe---at best.
I hope for the best and if they strike gold like they did with Downey Jr., then more power to them.  If not, don't say I didn't warn you......

Somebody said Tatum Channing (the guy playing Duke in the upcoming Gi Joe movie) or whatever his name is. I think the guy looks the part, I don't know how good of an actor he is, though.

I'm working on it, brother. I'm not too worried though, if they NEVER get to me, I live 8 miles away from Marvel studios in Beverly Hills. I'll storm in there and give them a piece of my mind if I have to. But I'll try it the hollywood way first before I burn every bridge to my acting career.

CBS announced a new TV show, something something about people involved with supernatural, bizarre thingamajigs.  In the magazine I was reading this, there was a headshot of an actor that I thought would make a good Captain America.  He was blond and had a dimple on his chin, just like Cap.  But it was his big shoulders that would make him stand out.  I have to find that picture again.

Yeah. I just recently ordered the Marvel Masterworks Atlas Heroes book, so i'm kind of excited to finally check those "Commie Smasher" issues out. I won't get to read it until I go home in another month or so, though.

But in all seriousness, get a head start on auditioning for cap if you haven't already. It'd be rad for you to atleast audition for it.

I'm back. I'd really like to see them choose an actor who has more credits under his belt than 3 small credits. Yeah I know everyone has to start somewhere but I'd don't think tossing the dice on a character of the importance of Captain America is the place. As it was stated earlier they already did some really bad movies and don't need to repeat that mistake. I'm with on Jim Cavieziel or maybe even Tatum Channing.

I'm with FIGHTING YANK on Jim Cavieziel or maybe even Tatum Channing.

Hey Wade I do think you'd make an excellent Sgt. Duffy, who was Steve Rogers foil and Sergeant in the early stories for trying to explain his absence.

I know who he is. I have the CAP disc with all the CAP issues on it leading up to his death in issue 25.

Hey, me too, but the plan is to have more credits and start and make myself a hotter commodity when it comes time to start casting. I have about a year and a half I figure until they get really ready to cast an actor.
