Have you guys heard? May 6th, 2011 is the date for The First Avenger: Captain America. No confirmed director or lead actor yet, but the rumors are not good - trust me. I also hear Marvel is looking for a re-write of the first script, which is a WWII period peice that has Cap waking up 60 years later in modern times ... hmmm, sounds a lot like the script I wrote that people criticized for being 1/3 period peice, 2/3 modern times. Let's refresh:

Honestly, I don't have high hopes for a good Cap movie.  Not in this day and age.  If it was done circa 1980-1992, I probably would be more excited.  The Salinger movie was a trainwreck.  Too many things have changed and I don't see Hollywood doing it justice.
However, if Marvel has it's hands all over it like it did Iron Man, then there's maybe a shred of hope.   The only way this movie works, is if it's done entirely in WW2.  Bucky should be there along with Red Skull.  If you throw in the Invaders, or any other character, I think it would detract from the story and most people wouldn't care outside of us comic book geeks.  Yes, I just called myself a geek too.  The movie should end with S.H.I.E.L.D in modern times, finding the frozen Steve Rogers and retrieving him for the "Avenger Initiative."  Done, end of story.  Don't think that's going to happen, but one can only hope.  In this man's humble opinion, this is the only way to avoid any P.C. b.s. or getting carried away with useless plot points that add nothing to the story of Cap.
As for casting, well, I think Wade Harlan has the perfect look, but, sorry Wade, they see $$$$ and they are going to want someone who is established ala Christian Bale/Downey Jr. to take the helm.  McConahey (spelling) wouldn't be all that bad, but let's face it, if your looking for the perfect patriotic actor in Hollywood, then your dreaming.  The only other guy I can think of that I would want, would be Jim Caviezel.   Bulk him up, Dye his hair blond or use a wig and I think he could pull it off.   Teriffic actor and one of the few "morally straight" guys in Hollywood.  That's my .02.

Have hope. It's all we have right now. Marvel going to try to have this be their crown jewel.

Re-writes are great. I read in Script magazine about the writing process for Iron Man and they had a LOT of re-writes going on throughout whole thing and it turned out pretty f'ing well if you ask me.

I know! That's why I want to get some guest spots on TV shows because they will air a lot sooner than movies that that would give me a lot more clout and pull as an actor to have more people (mainly in the industry) to know who I am. I have a lot faith about this summer (in July) when the TV season starts up production. I just got new pictures, taking a new acting class and have a new manager and agent in the works. I think this season will be pretty good for me. Then I can have my agent/manager call up Marvel for a meeting.

I posted one of my new pics on my Myspace page: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile& ...

WH is my man for the job. Outside of that I do not want Matt McCoughanehey or whoever you spell his name.

Marvel did do a nice job on Iron Man and I hope they treat Cap as respectfully as they did the Spider-Man franchise. Iron Man was a nice surprise: I went in expecting Daredevil and got something more like X-men 2 or Spidey 2. Very nice.

I have the faith that Marvel is going to treat Cap with alot of respect. He's the iconic hero. Plus it all seems like part of what will eventually lead to their Avengers film. At first i was skeptical but Iron Man was amazing, the new Hulk looks really good and Marvel Studios is at the helm. Win/Win.

The thing with Marvel being in charge is that they can focus on the absolute core of each character, and find actors that can bring that about.

With Iron Man, it is the story of a spoiled rich guy who gets fucked over by his own mistakes, but is given a second chance to straighten things out and make himself a better person.

Robert Downey Jr. was a spoiled rich guy who got fucked over by his own mistakes, but was given a second chance to straighten things out and make himself a better person.

Casting a Captain America is a bit more difficult.  Cap was a poor, weak kid who was given a chance to overcome physical adversity, become human perfection, and use that chance to help the world.

WH, you've got as much chance as anybody else, and if nothing else, given your military background and physicality, you could still get a job as a stunt double if they decide to go for an actor with a bigger name.

Thanks guys.

I just contacted a new manager today. Hopefully he'll like me and I can get he ball rolling on TV gigs to get me started on filling CAPs shoes.

Also, I was a real skinny kid when I was young. A lot of people ask my why didn't I play football or go to college or sports because of my size now. I tell them that I was always tall and skinny. I started out wrestling in junior high but when you're the same weight class as somebody 6 inches shorter than you, chances are he has a lot more muscle. Also, I was on the football team my junior year in high school, but didn't really ever play because I was a lot skinnier (and less experienced) than the other guys in my position. I did start to fill out a bit my senior year (at least people noticed) even though I had be working out for about 2 years before that, but it took me lifting weights, and only lifting weights and eating all day long to get to the 195lbs @ 6'3" when I graduated.

Hell yeah dude. Anything's possible.

I'm really not looking forward to this Cap movie, but if it's going to be made then lets weigh in with what will make this movie a hit or make some substantial amount of money.

One:  Action, Action, Action, man vs man, Cap vs Red Skull and the entire Nazi army, include American army, British army, ... heck, make it one big war movie.

Two:  Yes, cater to the Cap fans and keep what's cannon to the Cap universe, but you must please the non-Cap fans, because that's the profit and success of movies.  No Italian Red Skull or Steve Rogers with a bad leg.  Keep;  New York city boy who is small and frail, wants to fight the Nazis and joins the army and volunteers for the Super Soldier program.

Three:  Good lines, good dialogues, witty remarks.

Four:  Actors with presence and performances that won't make the audience cring or groan or think, "Man, does he look silly in those tights."  Examples would be those silly demons in the Ghost Rider movie.

Five:  Try to work around Cap's weak points, which are tried and familar themes, like Superman returns, dealt with all the tried and done-before themes, money exploitive Lex Luther, Superman saving Metropolis from an earthquake, kryptonite again.  Up date, jazz up the Never give up, fight for freedom, be strong and courageous themes in Cap.

Six:  No time travel,  the Avengers movie is Cap in modern times.  Like it or not, WW2 was the period where all of man's basic freedom and independence was seriously threatened.  It was a period where the Government justified the creation of super humans, ... think about what kept Bionic woman and Alias from becoming big successes, ...there's no big enough threat to justify spending fifty billion dollars on a bionic soldier or a believeable danger that'll keep Sidney fighting for a hundred episodes.

Winner: Saving Private Ryan with super heroes

Loser: 5 minutes of ww2 footage and then jumped into an ultimate avengers storyline.
Posted:  18 May 2008 19:21
Winner: a 50/50 blend of James Only's ideas for winner and loser.

I dunno man. i just want them to stay the hell away from the Ultimates storyline. I know its more realistic but i just don't dig it.

The only thing that i would really dig is if they used the military WW2 Cap costume from the Ultimates. I liked that.

I was reading a report yesterday on SuperHeroHype.com and it seems as though there will be yet ANOTHER easter egg aiming at Captain America via the new Incredible Hulk film. Apparently the super soldier serum will be in the film. I'd heard that Cap's shield is also hung up on the wall in Tony's machine shop in the Iron Man film, though I missed it.
Posted:  07 Jun 2008 19:24
Yeah, I saw the picture where they are holding the serum and read that they refer to the super soldier serum.

Cap's shield isn't on the wall, it's on a table behind Stark as he is getting out of his armour the first time. I didn't catch it in the movie until seeing it a second time after reading about it.

here is a picture from Iron Man and a short discussion about the Hulk serum-scene.

Awesome. Thanks for the link! Did anyone actually see this in the film? Even looking at it now, I would've assumed it was a glare or something. Pretty cool.
Posted:  08 Jun 2008 06:35
I saw it in the movie, but on the second time around after hearing it was there.

Hi everyone! This is my first posting here, but as a life-long (and English) fan of Cap, I thought it was about time to take the plunge and join in. I guess all the internet buzz about Cap easter eggs in IM and IH prompted me to weigh in! I think a Cap film could be brilliant, especially if they take the care they did over Iron Man (haven't seen the new Hulk yet, but hoping that'll be great too). I think (with respect) a lot of American commentators get hung up on the perception that "the rest of the world" would hate a Captain America movie, based on aspects of the US's foreign policy. Well, that may be so, but the world broadly loves American culture, and that can translate to Cap quite easily. Superman is as American as anything else, and that worked. The key will be casting the right actor and a great director.

Glad to hear your perspective Timzer.

This whole death thing, if it haden't happened, the movie would've came out earlier (2009), but the director and the producer heard all about this Captain America is going to die, so they decided to cancel it until the "death" issue is over.

I hope they stop this issue on Cap's death and use a serum to heal the shots and cure Cap, so he's alvie again.

To my suprise the Dr.F has, (or is goning to clone) another Captain America, but evil.
He thinks that Bucky (The new Captain America) will think thats Steve Rogers and give up.

For that's all I know about the issue on the movie about Cap.

P.S. The movie order is like this:
The Avengers-(either 2009-2010)
Thor-(2010)
Captain America-(2011)

Then they're thinking about making another Iron Man, to my guess (if they do make one) around 2013-2015.

Oh,and, they might amke a Nick Fury movie. Idon't Know about that date wether they are amking it or not.

Hi Everyone.  I have to puke after looking at www.movies.com and who they want as cap in the movie.  Brad Pitt will be in Thor.  But Leonardo De fagio.  Please somebody tell marvel to not make cap a tea-bagger.  Sorry if I offended any one but this really blows...
Posted:  14 Jun 2008 20:18
The Iron Man was good right? The Hulk was good right?
So Captain America is going to be good I'm assuming.
Posted:  15 Jun 2008 01:11
Pole, the announced dates are that Iron Man 2 and Thor will both be in 2010, then First Avenger: Cap and Avengers will then be out in 2011.  Avengers will be after IM2, Thor, and Cap.  The only Marvel movie scheduled before IM2 is Wolverine, which will be out next year and is done by 20th Century Fox, not by Marvel directly, just like the 3 X-Men films.

Go see Incredible Hulk.  Awesome, and lots of Cap references.

Actually Punisher: Warzone is the next Marvel movie on 5 December 2008.
