Hi guys,

Name's Phate. Just joined after trying to find some idea of who was going to play the CAP. After finding no real satisfaction in the suggestions I melted my own brain thinking of who would suit it and I think...think I may have found the guy (with a bit of a spartan workout before-hand)

So I decided to join this forum and tell you guys to get a second opinion...

My suggestion is that Neal McDonough (Buck-Band of Brothers) play the part. Don't see the connection? Check the following two links:

http://www.exposay.com/celebrity-photos/neal-mcdonough-2004-nbc-a ...
http://www.littlestuffedbull.com/images/comics/cap201double.jpg

Do you see the resemblences here?
Also, not just his lookalike facial features, it also helps that he's pretty certainly American (which eliminated Arnie from the contestants list) and he is of decent age too (which eliminates a couple of other  of the suggested actors).

Hey try this one for size. You need someone to play Steve Rogers as well as Cap. My wife watches the soaps. An actor named Steve Burton from General Hospital would be an excellent choice. You may think a soap drama actor couldn't possible do this. But trust me Steve Burton is Captain America

Hey, guys. I've been on this site for a few years now, and I'm going to play CAP.

vote for me to play CAP!

Hi,
Sorry,I really don't see any resemblance between you and any drawings of Steve Rogers. I think Matthew McConaughey might be a good choice.
Posted:  06 May 2008 16:01
Wade, you get my vote.   From what it seems, at least you would do the character justice.  You also have the build for it.   Resemblence is something that can be fixed with the wonder of makeup.  Besides, that's the least of the concerns.  There's still a small part of me that says they are going to PC the sh** out of the movie, but we'll wait and see.
Posted:  06 May 2008 16:31
I too, am wondering if the PC police are going to troop in and make it yet another poorly made portrayal of Captain America.  There is more than enough material to make it a well written, well acted piece if the PC crowd don't kill it.

Ah, Cap represents the best of us, so there's no reason to overly PC it up. Especially if he's fighting Nazis …

Thanks, Buddy. Good screen name too.

Don't worry about it JBB. No offense taken. I will say though that I agree that my face doesn't really look like what cap is usually drawn like, but I think I do have a resemblance to a Ron Lim drawn CAP. Like how he looked in The Infinity Gauntlet and this issue.
http://www.comicvine.com/comic/captain-america/2400/33986/&i=3258

I know I'd have to post more pics to really show it, but it just goes to show that Steve Rogers has been drawn so many different ways, and if that illustration where a live person, what would he look like? It pretty much comes down to the hair and larger details like Ben Affleck wearing the red glasses as Matt Murdock. Ioan Grufford having grey streaks in his hair as Mr. Fantastic, and Huge Jackman's mutton chops as Logan in Wolverine. I mean every time I see Huge Jackman clean shaven I think "he's Wolverine?"  Then I see him with the facial hair, and I see Logan again. Of course he won us over with is performance to overlook his height but that's what it takes. Set the environment, put the costume on and let it gel. Look at Tobey? Any fresh faced, clean cut looking kid could have looked the part of Peter Parker.

Also, I just don't want an overrated wuss to play CAP, and I think somebody former military is a huge plus to play CAP, and of course somebody with the right build.

Also, since I've it a lot too, is that I don't think the same actor should be able to pull off the before and after rebirth look either without having to do something drastic like Bale did for The Machinist. The whole point of rebirth, is that their is a such an enormus difference in Roger's body. So much so that I think they'll have to do some sort of special effects to make me, I mean the actor playing Rogers, look weak and very fragile before he becomes CAP. Most of the actors mentioned will never be able to get built enough to make CAP realistic. CAP has to be pretty buff looking on screen since he doesn't have super powers. He can't just be lean and thin like Paul Walker or the likes. CAP has to be pretty beefy. And McCougney (sp?) just isn't CAP at all. He's built well, but not right. Plus he'd have to bulk up. Plus he's a little too short I think.

nuff said.

i hope mcconaughey doesn't get it... not big enough. i still like my chose of mike o hearn.

It's 3 years until the planned release date, and if there's no target date of competion than nothing gets done (This was stated by George Burns in Oh God part 2), so I'm happy that the powers-that-be have a movie plan for my favorite hero.
Mcdonough, ewww, sorry, I just can't see a leader-type person.
Wade, need to see some wicked, dramatic eyes, something that means business, means I'm going to beat the crap out of the entire Kraut army.
Mcconaughey, everybody else, work out, build up the body, 1 to 2 years to build that physically-imposing image that Cap needs.

Good morning. . .i look forward to a movie about my hero. . .and i'm concerned that the people to choose from will only look at it as a part in a movie. . .this charector is much more than that and this country needs someone who can potray that even away from the cameras. . .if given the opportunity. . .i know anyone here would play Cap to the best of their abilities. . .his leadership. . .patriotism. . .is what this country needs. . .regardless of ideology. . .i just hope those who have a say understand and learn that before it's too late. . .i think. . .like most of you would give my right arm to do this role. . .there is something about this hero that can't be done by someone just playing a role. . .i think the world would forgive someone for being in less shape or not blond. . .if they understood and portrayed Cap for what he stands for. . .duty. . .honor. . .country. . .freedom. . .

I agree. I would not want an actor to play CAP just as another job. CAP needs to be played by a devout fan and patriot above all. The rest can be worked on.......

...but he still can't be scrawny.

McCounaghey is frakkin' liberal hippie scum that once got arrested for being doped out of his mind, playing the bongo drums naked at his home in Austin, TX - no joke, Google it.

I recently saw "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" with Downey Jr. and Shia LaBouf. I really like the gritty performance of a young, tall, strong kid named Tatum Channing, who I understand is playing "Duke" in the GI Joe movie. Too bad the producers of GI Joe nabbed him first because I think his performance in "Saints" would've translated well to a fractured hero like NY's Steve Rogers.

I would think/hope that the folks at Marvel realize the importance of captain america and respect the character enough to do him justice. I have confidense that they do and will.
Posted:  12 May 2008 00:17
Well I did google Matthew McConaughey and yes police were called and he was fined a whopping $50 for violating noise ordinance. Drug charges were dropped. So I'm guessing this would be called a misdemeanor and how many of us have not had a driving violation? I can say I've never been charged with driving under the influence of anything. This is America where at least for the present we can still play bongo's or anything else for that matter in the privacy of our own home, which is where he was. I find it more disgusting to read of the so-called "Good Ole Boys" who get tickets for drunk driving.

JBB, nice work, but you can't honestly tell me you're in favor of McConaughey as Cap? He's not deep enough to play the Steve Rogers side of the role and he's way too old.

Don't we need someone in their 20s to play the role?

Not necessarily. A war ages people from the experience, and I think you need that to carry the depth that Captain America has. McConaughey as Captain America??????????????????   No way he could play it!

Hey Cap Writer, Thanks for the nice words. To answer your question about am I in favor of McConaughey , Hmmm.. I don't know. This could get a bit drawn out so bear with me. You see I've been a reader of Cap since he originally came out of the ice back in 63', so I've read every story for the past forty some years. I do agree from a fans point of view that it would be great to get someone who resembles Rogers, has the values and can ACT. I think strong acting is gonna be 90% of the casting.
I was probably one of the few people torn at the end of the Iron Man movie to see Sam Jackson (a great actor) portraying Nick Fury. For one I grew up on Sgt. Fury and would have loved to see someone like  Kurt Russell or Eric Roberts play the part. This kind of screwed up the continuity for me as The Jackson Fury IS an ULTIMATE character.
Getting back to casting Cap., I guess all I want is a strong resemblance to our Cap (no Ultimates who has no wings on the hood and that little thing blows to me) and I hope the man can act to a high level. I've seen way too many movies where I would swear they were reading from a tele-prompter.
Sorry about being so wordy but I did think the answer to your question deserved to be broken down so hopefully you can see where I'm coming from.

Well I've added another link. If some people were dissappointed with Matthew McConaughey being considered for Cap, wait till you read this.

Appearance-wise, I think Brad Pitt could work as Thor.  Acting-wise, except for a couple of small bits, his acting in Troy was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!  When I watched it, I was more impressed with Sean Bean as Odysseus, Peter O'Toole, as Priam, and Agamemnon (and do you know I can't think of his name although I liked him in the Sharpe's series).  Another wait and see, although I really want them to go carefully and do the best job of writing and casting Captain America.  There have been way too many awful ones and the character deserves far better!

Matthe McBongoDrums is a terrible actor. He can play hippies and stoners well, but not The Living Legend of WWII for crying out loud!

I know acting chops is a big deal in movies, but I think Thor has to look like him first, and then work with the actor to get it right. I just don't think Pitt is big enough. I'm sorry, but if Marvel wants their fans to respect their movies, they have to have actors that represent the movie and THOR is a big dude and needs to be played by a big dude. I say they keep looking, which I'm sure they are. I doubt there is a lot of validity to this rumor.

Done and done - this man should be Captain America.  He is ex Air Force Special Forces and an up and coming actor:

Funny enough. I met this Army captain like around last november who looked JUST LIKE Steve Rogers. He just wasn't as tall.
Posted:  18 May 2008 15:01
Well I'm back again and after seeing some of the photo's & resume's for pontetnial Cap actors, If some with little or no acting credits gets the part I think the movie won't be any better and possibly worse than the two earlier attempts. I thought Matt Salinger looked remarkably like Steve Rogers but the script for that movie just stunk.
The retired air force man that SME linked to looks more like Proffesor X than Cap.I have no Idea why people feel the person playing Cap should be former military? As we all know Steve Rogers had an almost unmatchable love for this great country of ours and had it not been for the success of the experiment he would not have been able to serve. Would that have made him any less patriotic than even a General Patton?
Also I'm kind of puzzled by WHO311'S comment of "I think Thor has to look like him first, and then work with the actor to get it right." Now if I understand this correctly,  why Thor and not Captain America in the look like him catagory? This doesn't make sense.

JBB, I think it has to do with an actor being legitimate in the eyes of fans. Basically Captain America is a hero but he always represents "the Great Generation" that lived during the 1940s.

Bottom line: We just don't want no panzy playing the greatest super hero of all time.

and those are my two cents, sir.

Check out my man for the job, Tatum Channing.
Young, tall, strong, he's in GI Joe for crying out loud! Good actor too:

Yeah, I don't think TC would be a bad choice. He kinda looks the part. Thing is, he's playing Duke in Gi Joe which is slated for a 2009 release. They're filming now.

i am completely new at this type of thing but i am a huge comic book fan, and i do like most of the movies comming out on the big screen. captain america is my favorite hero from marvel, so i am looking forward to seeing a captain america movie. to me the actor to fill the red boots has to be perfect, i have heard tales of people saying that matthew mcconaughey might be marvels choice. i for one dont like this idea, something else i have heard is that marvel would like brad pitt to play thor. in my opinion they should switch it. im not a fan of brad pitt minus fight club that was damn good. but if pitt were to get in shape like he did for troy i believe that he would make a perfect choice for the captain. plus, can anyone see "wooderson" in the red, white and blue? he was great in dazed and confused, and he might have the body for it but pitt has the pretty blues the blondish hair and the manly chin. brad pitt has my vote for Captain America. the people who are on this thing everyday will most likely make fun of this statement that i have just said but i dont care i have said what i believe and that is that.
