I saw that, too.  I think that might work well.  He did a great job with The Notebook (somewhat of a period piece/modern tale).  I wonder if that is part of why Marvel wants him?  If they want him?

I'm so relieved they didn't choose a Tim Story-type director.

I think he may be a big fan and he really wants to do it the Marvel way since Avi Arad said a while back that Marvel would not use too many big directors because they want to do things their way instead of the way the characters have been over the years. Considering he wanted to do Iron Man before Faverou, I would think he is a fan. Iron Man isn't exactly the most known character in the Marvel U (for nonfans that is).

Don't you think it's weird that this guy wanted to do Iron Man and Faverou wanted to Captain America and now it is switched?

WH, that is interesting.  I remember reading that about Faverou.

Well, based on what I'm seeing I think they're going to do Cap RIGHT!

There could be and are worse choices than Nick that is for sure, lets just get it on!

Back when Canon pictures bought the rights for Spidey and Cap movies in the late 80s, Albert Pyun, Sword and the Sorceror bad movie, was attached to the Spidey movie, but when Canon lost money due to the poor sales of Superman 4, he jumped onto the Cap movie.  Is this history repeating itself?
Anyways, we need someone who can do Action movie.  Ang Lee was too cerebral on the Hulk movie, which needed more smashing; Tom Story was way to conservative with the Fantastic Four, which needed more EPIC movie feel.

Tim Story did Barbershop--an urban comedy--I'm still unsure what they were thinking of letting him direct either movie--both stunk.

I'm not sure I follow the history repeating itself thing from the prior owner of Cap and Spidey.

Nick Casavetes (sp?) did a wonderful job on The Notebook.  He's an accomplished director who can pull realistic performances from the players.  I think he would be a wonderful choice for Cap.

I also think Josh Duhamel would make a great Cap after seeing him in Transformers.

Yeah, I saw him on Casino and the Transformers movie, but my bet is on Howie Long, check out his football commentaries on Fox.  Too bad he doesn't have that movie star quality (Anyone saw Firestorm?).

Unfortunately I did see Firestorm (where "action went Long") It got to be quite comical to watch the man and his lack of acting ability.  I think that movie sunk his "acting" career.

He does better commercials.

He's not a contender for Cap.  They're likely going to pick someone young, like Duhamel, and go for the youngsters.  The major movie demographic is something like 16--25.  Beyond that the attendance drops off.  I know that since I have 4 kids my wife and I see about 1 movie a year in the theater.

Josh Duhamel is SOOOO scrawny. I saw him in person, he is built like a 6'2" under fed middle school kid. I'd snap him in two.

Of course I'm a little biased, but that is just my opinion.

WH, I'm sure you could snap him in two, but he's got a fan base from TV and muscles can be built through training.

I'm not trying to rain on your goals--I wish you the best.  I was simply pointing out that he might make a good choice for an actor--he presents some possibilities.

For Spider-man Tobey Macguire wore a muscle suit under the tights.

Tobey Macguire had a presence, he stood out (Though for me he began to look a little like Raimi's brother, that guy who was on Xena and popped up in Jameson's office).
Duhamel skinny, Salinger was skinny and look how that turned out for that 90's movie.  If this movie is aiming for a 2009 or 2010 release, the actor chosen better start working out and get buffed up immediately.

No offense taken. I'm out here, I know the game. Have to have thick skin in this industry and not be too affected by disappointments.

One recent one, just found out my line in "Lions for Lambs" was cut, and now it looks like I was an extra instead of a principle actor in it. Of course I have not see the movie yet, but a good buddy of mine just told me he saw me in the movie but did not see me giving any lines.

Better luck next time I guess.

I'm not trying to insult Duhamel, I'm just saying that he needs to 'buff up'.  Charlie Sheen did it to spoof Stallone in Hot Shot part deux. I'm sure if Duhamel wants the Cap role, he can take time to 'buff up' to a good strongman physical presence.
There are others like the actor in the first two Fast and the Furious.  I sort of like that guy who played Colossus in Xmen 2 and 3, he seemed to have a body that can be Cap.
We need to remind ourselves that if the actor does not have a physically well-bit body, that Cap costume will look gawky and silly on him (Check out the early screen tests of a skinny Chris Reeve in that Superman suit in those DVD extras.).
