What do you guys think of Robert Downey, Jr being cast as Tony Stark? At first I thought, what the...? Then when I thought about it. I thought it was actually pretty good, and I could not think of anybody better, well except a younger Tom Selleck of course, but since he's too old, Downey is a fine choice. I think he's a good age. I would not want somebody too young playing Stark. That would be lame and too similar to Batman Begins.

He's a great actor, so sure.

I like to watch him act, I have to admit but you know I figure the reason he got it was because he's a big drunk just like Stark.

I could be wrong.

You may be right, but he is a good age, not too young, not too old, plus he has a decent look. I heard he grew a goatee to help Marvel choose him. I think he'll be good.

I've been going around asking women if they found Downy Jr attractive, not one found him attractive.  Iron Man/Tony Stark is suppose to be handsome and someone women drools over.  Think Timothy Dalton or a Tom Selleck from the Magnum PI years.
Well, Stark is an alcoholic, sooo ...

Starks an alcy so a actor who is also an actor might know how to play him better, maybe if he's not too drunk to act.

Timothy Dalton now there's a choice. He does look a lot like Stark.

Also if you ever watched the SCI-Fi TV series, "Eureka" there is a character named Stark who bears a close resemblance to Tony Stark.

On the season finale of that series, they actually had him in a large office building with a sign saying, "Stark Industries" Obviously, a nod to Iron Man if not a total rip.

Dalton is oooooold. Downey is pushing it. Besides, his problem has always been with coke, not booze. He'll probably be up before the crew and ready to work. He might not even sleep at all. He might sleep in the suit.

I mean, I don't have a huge problem with him being cast, but Iron Man is going to be a clunky enough operation as it is. I'm not sure what he can offer. He certainly isn't the new "it" guy, since he missed that while in jail 15 years ago. Maybe Downey will bring older people in that don't normally care about comics. I doubt it. This could be another Daredevil.

Iron Man is going to be a tricky operation anyway. The character is great if you know of him, but many don't, so why not just go with a younger more Tony Stark looking person. When I visualize Downey with a mustache, I keep coming up with Geraldo. Bad sign.

Personally, I think they oughta throw a mustache on one of the guys from Battle Star Galactica and have them do it. Go with a cheap actor and spend money on a good script and director. I've done some acting and honestly, too much is made of it. Really the make up girls, the art crew, the camera team, the director and THE WRITERS make the picture a good movie or not. All the actors do it signal what kind of movie it is to the public. Mel Gibson? Oh, thriller or Patriotic. Tom Hanks? Gushy and life affriming. Brad Pitt? Flashy, edgy and possibly preachy.

The less than enthusiastic reception of Superman Returns wasn't Brandon Routhe's fault, it was part of a superhero genre that is starting to get a bit bloated with time. They should have simplified that whole movie. But hey, stuff wears out by the end of a decade. Spider-Man 1 was our Pearl Jam and X-Men our Nirvana and we may get Ghost Rider and Iron Man as our Creed and Third Eye Blind.

Ghost Rider will rock I think. Nicolas Cage is a big comic book fan obviously and I think he'll bring to the role what it needs. Daredevil was a great movie I thought despite the Ben Affleck critics.

Superman Returns needed some action. Supes didn't even punch anybody. Too much yacking and not enough fighting, but I still enjoyed it, just could have been better.

Iron Man, I've never been that crazy over to be honest. He's just a guy in a Iron suit. Downey can act though. I liked that movie he played in with all the ghosts. Can't remember the name though.

It's not that Tony Stark is super handsome the dude is SUPER rich and famous to boot. THAT'S why chicks dig him. Robert Downey Jr. with a goatee will do fine as long as it's a good story.
