I've probably posted this once in the past, but it deserves a listen especially this time of year. click on this link

to hear Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance speech. I can hardly listen to it without tearing up. If you don't know he who Red Skelton was, he was a comedian from the early days of television. One of the classics of Hollywood back in the Lucille Ball, and Leave it to Beaver days.

Great post.  Red was a great storyteller.

(oddly enough when I first read the title of this post I saw "Red Skull Pledge of Allegiance" I thought it might be a new miniseries.)

That's funny, Red Skelton confused with the Red Skull. I can see how that could happen at a glance though.

That was cool.

When he got old, we had a couple DJ's here in Chicago that called him Red Skeleton

I actually did that by accident a few times, by my wife always corrects me when I'm wrong. I tend to mispronounce words sometimes.

Dude I'm old. I was a kid in the 80's. My dad was a big fan of Red Skelton so that's how I know who he is.

I grew up watching Red Skelton do that piece on his show.  He would perform it two or three times a year, and no matter how many times I hear it, I still tear up.

Oops, I'm dating myself again!

I watched Red as a  kid and was saddened when he passed  away. I was  shocked, at the time, how many in the press labeled him a reactionary due to his 'Anti-Communist' stance?

The press is a bunch of liberals. They shouldn't get away with putting labels on people they don't agree with.

We need the reminder now more than ever!  I have you beat on the age, Tim!  I was a kid in the 60's when I started reading Captain America and watching the Red Skelton Show on tv.  I teared up then watching his Pledge of Allegiance, and I tear up to this day hearing it.  A blogspot I go to called Issues of the Day and Musings has a link to it also.
