Lately, this board is full of 'Who can play Cap' and we're suggesting handsome actors to wrestling stars, but it's a few other things that make Cap great:
1:  He must look good in that costume!  Matt Salinger had a rubber suit that bunched up and bulged in certain areas, plus he was just tall and skinny; just made Cap look gawky than heroic.
2:  He must run good!  Cap charges into battles!  What bothered me about Shaq in that Steel movie was his run looked like a lumbering oaf.  Say what you want about that Reb Brown/Cap tv movies, but he did run great and heroic (Also the music helped).  I saw John Cena on Raw, he doesn't look tall enough or physically fit to run heroic.
3:  He must look great when throwing that cool shield!  The only thing good about that 90s Cap movie, Matt Salinger looked good throwing that shield (he said that he spent time throwing frisbees in his teens).
4:  The actor must have a presence, must believe in himself, must be confident, and orate convincingly!  Cap believes in his words and speaches, so if the Actor just says his lines, just think of this as paycheck, believe Cap's a hokey out dated cliche comic book hero,  it'll just ruin our 'suspension of belief' and acceptence of a live Captain America.  Macguire worked for Spidey in the movies because we felt his pain and problems playing Peter Parker.  So the actor must play and speak like a charismatic leader.

I agree, I believe they should pattern Cap's speaking to that of like Ronald Reagan. Whether you were a political fan or not his sense of humor, and overall patriotism in his speeches really won over crowds and he often used quotes from our forefathers. Something I know Cap would do.

I also agree. I thought Reb Brown was pretty good. He was big and tough looking to start with, but I can't really remember his acting. Of course, most actors would not seem as good in a low budget TV movie. Especially a superhero where a large budget adds the to fantasy.

When I was a kid I loved the Captain America TV movies. I wanted a series, but I think CBS was scared to put on yet another superhero show. They had the Hulk, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man which they cancelled just because they didn't want to be known as the superhero network. Dang snobs, they had a similiar snobbish attitude back in the early 70's when they decided every show with so much as a tree had to be taken off, you know rural comedies in the same line as Petticoat Junction and Green Acre type shows.

There was also a Dr. Strange pilot movie for CBS.  I had a VCR copy of that show, I think I lost it.  At least CBS gave Cap a second tv pilot.

CBS probably limited Cap to TV movies just because of their attitude to superheroes though not because of ratings.

That Cap tv show, from what I gathered from reading Stan's soapbox in those Marvel Bullpen Bullentins, Cap was going to be a MIDSEASON REPLACEMENT TV SHOW, and kicking it off was a brand new Cap 2 parter with Reb Brown battling terrorists headed by Christopher Lee.  However, CBS decided to end any new Superhero projects, just keeping the Hulk and Wonder Woman, and aired that movie as a TV movie two months early.

After that, I'm no longer optimistic on any news of upcoming Cap movie/tv projects  (I really wanted news of that 90s Cap movie to be good, but ...).
