This is a old joke told by Ronald Reagan. I'm not going to tell it exactly word for word, but here it goes any how.
There was a young preacher man who was looking for a way to wake up his congregation. Occassionally they would get bored and some would fall asleep on him while he was preaching.
One day he talked to an older preacher, who told him that he always uses this technique.
First he tells his congregation that last night he was in the arms of another man's wife. Then when everyone gasps in horror and wakes up, he says it was just my mother.
So the young preacher man decided that was a great gimmick to pull on his congregation. Sunday came around and sure enough everyone began to get bored and fall asleep. So to the horror of the crowd he stated he had been in the arms of another man's wife. He looked around nervously, and then forgetting how the story was supposed to go said, "I just forgot who it was".
