Cap represents all americans, not one party. In the 70s, he had his faith shaken by (Marvel's version of) Watergate. It happened again the 1980s, when the government tried to force Cap to perform missions which he was against, he became The Captain and donned a black uniform.

Pretty much since the golden age, he has often been at odds with the government, because he doesn't take political sides (except maybe being an FDR dem).

Remember him not running for office?

Hi Folks,
Has anyone else noticed the change in the promotion blurb for Captain America #31? I'm doing a copy and paste of them as they appeared in the Comics Continuum on the dates of July 17,2007 and recently on September 24, 2007.

FIRST LOOK: CAPTAIN AMERICA #31
Captain America #31 will arrive in stores on Oct. 17 from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Ed Brubaker, with art by Steve Epting and Mike Perkins and a cover by Epting.
Here's how Marvel describes the issue:
"Captain America is dead. The Winter Soldier is Red Skull's captive. Falcon and Black Widow have been betrayed by someone close to them. And in Captain America #31¸ it's only going to get worse for our heroes! In the first chapter of the new 'The Burden Of Dreams' arc, Winter Soldier's held prisoner and tortured by Dr. Faustus, while the Red Skull hopes to use Bucky to his own advantage -- but what could those plans be? Meanwhile, still reeling from last issue's shocking betrayal, Black Widow, Sharon Carter and the Falcon come face to face with the man who might be their last hope -- Iron Man! But by the time the truth surfaces and Bucky can be located, will he be friend...or foe?"
Captain America #31 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.99.

Wonder why the radical changes in describing the contents of the book? I guess we'll just have to wait and see as the plot thickens. I really love Brubakers writing and the art team of Epting & Perkins.
See what theories you can come up with and please post your reponses, would love to hear them.

The recent run of Captain America (up to his death) was pretty good in my opinion. The return of Bucky, his association with his former allies in England (the Invaders weren't they?) even the Red Skull getting killed (I wouldn't have a problem with him staying dead).

Captain America's portrayal in the Civil War series didn't jive though. He's not (or shouldn't be) a government man, but at the same time the idea of him fighting the government is just daft. Government of the people, by the people is the ideal he believes in, and he wouldn't fight the entirety just because of one law he disagreed with. He might hang up his cowl and shield in protest, or refuse to comply and accept imprisonment rather than violate his principles, but he would not fight the government.

If I may say so, based on the news we get here Americans don't seem able to disagree with people and remain civil. It is one thing to disagree with George w. Bush on his policies in Iraq, or regarding taxation or illegal immigration, but people seem to go beyond that and attribute all sorts of character flaws to him.

You should check out our new site http://reallypolitical.com I am personally working on the civil debate thing. It's not easy.

Good point on Cap, I kind of think that Cap's reaction could go either way. It was after all a huge deal. Iron Man was putting people into prison for not giving up their secret identities, and you know how important a secret identity is to a superhero.

Captain America Redesigned By Alex Ross

Ha, just saw this. Not big on the redesign meself. I usually dig Ross' take on things. This doesn't do it: I always like the chainmail-texture of the old one. Why mess with a good — great — thing?!

But maybe it'll grow on me. Or, more likely, it won't last.

So, is it Bucky? I don't think Steve would carry a gun.

It's not Steve Rogers.

It possibly Bucky, he would have no qualms about using a gun and a knife.

You are correct Bucky fans, Cap would not usually carry a gun. Bucky would (and a knife) also Bucky would state that he would not wear Caps uniform, so then Tony "AZlex Ross" Stark or Fury talks Bucky into taking over to catty on for Cap.

I read 31 yesterday.

SPOILER ALERT

Does he shoot Dr. F, or Sharon.

With the way it ended I think the answer is pretty obvious, there are blanks in the gun.  Dr. F wouldn't have been so stupid as to give his potential enemy a loaded gun, especially when he's not sure if he's under control yet.  WS would have knowen this and shot [at] Sharon.  We have to wait a month to find out.

If the gun was loaded (I'm with you that it probably wasn't), he shot Dr. Faustus. They're not gonna kill Sharon … at least not like that. Plus, who's gonna give birth to Steve Jr.?

But, who knows? It's a cruel world.

I forgot that she was pregnant.

Ok, so we know that Sharon isn't gone, cause that just tied up a loose end to nicely for a soap-opera... I mean comic book.

Do we KNOW that its Steve's baby?  Might be Red Skull's so he can have a new body.  Would have been easy to do while she was under hypnosis.

That would be a good one.

Maybe it's Steve's baby, but it will be used by the Red Skull. That would be grim …

Well, Red Skull did have Steve Rodgers' cloned body for a while.

Yeah, and the Skull's switched bodies with Rogers. And having power over Steve's kid certainly fits his MO. I love how Brubaker's kept the Skull as the villain throughout the run.

Yeah, and you know I've seen a lot of negativity towards Ed about this series.  Even though I really don't get killing off the title character, I am enjoying the goings ons in the CA part of the MU.

I think someone mentioned this in another thread, but has there been any speculation as to why in the script for issue 25 part of the description for the panel in which Sharon shoots Steve is censored?

And I went back and looked the panel over and didn't see anything "funny" about it, but if it's censored in the script there must be something... right?
