No TV intro was ever more patriotic than the Adventures of Superman with George Reeves which declared apologetically that Superman fought for truth, justice, and the American way.
I think some people got the idea in recent times that the American way is some kind of boast of American superiority, but really it's an embodiment of ideas of justice, freedom, and equality for all mankind. It's the ability for a man to pursue his dreams without fear of an government standing in his way, provided of course, his dreams don't take away from the rights of others to pursue their dreams.
