WAAAAAy back in 2005-06, Brubaker, Epting and Lark made Captain America a MUST-READ and compelling book, giving Cap a new look, feel and direction (And making Bucky/Winter Soldier a very-popular character) for today's audience. The small comic store where I picked up those books just carried a small limited number of Cap books (He mostly stocked up on X, Spidey, Super, Bats and Spawn books), now he's selling over a hundred Cap books a month.

But this new run, which started great, with artist Niven running Fantasy-alternate-magical-world, a new baddie, Bravo and an Elf-queen turned Hydra boss, but it's now stagnating and uninteresting. Madbombs, crazy mobs, Bravo becoming an evil twin of Cap, Falcon going nuts (Again), and a new Scurge with Dman going crazy.

And that Cap team-up book, Cap turned into a dinosaur, ...Capwolf, CapSaurus!!!???  Signs of the apocalypse????

And I thought Diamondback/Shield agent would give Cap some new adventures (She's always getting into trouble and dragging Cap into it like in those Gruenwald books). Didn't Thomas said something that Nostalgic don't sell in that podcast?

So, my suggestion to help, ask Brubaker to take a vacation. Relax, get out of town for awhile, ...then come back and give Cap a new look, feel and direction.
Plus, get an art team (artist, inker and colorist) for that new look and in it for a long haul, Epting and Lark did a fantastic run.

Compounding the problem is the regular Cap book, at $3.99, gave you McNiven and then Alan Davis. While the new guy on the current arc isn't terrible, he isn't an A-lister either. It should be a $2.99 book.

I do like that Brubaker is trying to take a lighter tone and hark back to those fun villains and elements from Cap's past: Mad Bombs. Eel. Cobra. Viper. Machinesmith. Hydra. Diamondback. I love all that stuff. The problem, to me, is the decompression storytelling. I like this new female Hydra and Bravo but they are dragging out this big plan of theirs. Move the story quicker and give us a new turn at the end of each issue with us going, "I didn't see THAT coming!"

Personally, I thought Brubaker jumped the shark with Reborn (A Time bullet? Really?) I don't know if he is hanging on to try to beat Gruenwald's record but it is time for some new blood. But that will probably mean a new number 1 to trumpet some new creative team that can't last the year.

The other title, which seems like Marvel Team-Up for Cap, seems like filler stories and I don't expect that to last too long since Cap can't hold two books. It will get cancel probably within the year and then the old number will get picked up again with the new title right around #700. (Marvel having its cake and eating it too).

I could be worse. We could get Bendis and talking heads for 22 pages.

Yeah i feel you. I'm not super interested in the new book and i completely stopped reading Cap and Bucky. I thought it was boring and the art was uninteresting.

I agree with almost all of what you guys said.  I think the Cap stories are kindo of "washed out" with too many books. Even though I love more Cap books, I want great storylines like the original Brubaker run.  The new storylines, Bravo as the villan, Cap being a dinosaur, I thought was kind of cheesy.  I'm more interested in this Scourge character just to see if it can get a little better.  I thought the Cap and bucky book was terrible and was not fond of the art either.  I thought the Cap and hawkeye was better until I met the talking dinosaur and than Cap became one..... All of this being said.... be careful what you ask for..... Losing Brubaker would not be good.
I just want Brubaker to give us what he did before, ONE Cap book that leaves you hanging on for the next segment with emotion.  And I would love to see a team like Epting and Lark stay with the book for a long run.
