No sense in worrying about posting a spoiler alert because the whole world is talking about the death of Captain America. I just came back from my local comic book shop, and everybody was going on about the death of Captain America in the latest issue # 25. 100 issues had sold out in one day, and the comic shop was selling at 5 bucks a piece.

Apparently it's in USA Today, and old Howard Stern was talking about it.

Here's some Cap death news links.
Yahoo News

USA Today

Daily News Entertainment

CNN

Fox News When I found this link it was the top front of the site as the main headline.

MSNBC.com

This makes me mad of course, but on the bright side you know Cap can't stay dead, and the publicity is obviously a great build up for a Captain America movie. Now everybody knows who Captain America is.

You all might want to watch this too from CNN on Cap's death

Well I can't get the link to work on here. On this page there's a video link to the story that's interesting. http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/books/03/07/captain.america/index ...

I've listed it once already, but I didn't want you all to miss the video link. It's halfway down the page.

I had a terrible thought, what if Steve Rogers stays dead, and somebody else permanently takes over as Captain America. That would stink.

I didn't like it when they did it to Superman, and I am no fan of it now that they have done it to Captain America, NO I dont like this at all.
Posted:  07 Mar 2007 22:54
I don't like it, but it might help the movie out. I just hope he turns up alive real soon, and I hope my copy of the book gets here today.

Well I just got my copy in the mail. Haven't read it yet, but it came with a letter stating that the next issue in my subscription will be Civil War: Fallen Sons #1 the first in a five issue mini series. It says at the conclusion of the series the Captain America series will continue.

The question remains will it continue with Steve Rogers as Captain America or not.

I wouldn't put it past them.

First Superman, now Cap. What the hell? They couldn't kill off Moon Knight or Gambit?

I am getting so tired of the editorial leadership at Marvel Comics. First Spider-Man reveals his identity to the world. Now they kill off Cap! I think I'll start reading more DC and Darkhorse.

I'm with you Bobcat.

I know what you all mean, but you know it is getting them sales, and a lot of free publicity. Still I hate it, but the level of my displeasure is relative to how long he stays dead.

Spoiler Warning*******

Ok I assume you all have read Cap 25, but just in case you haven't I put the spoiler warning.

In the book unless I missed something reading in a hurry, Cap looks like he's dying, but it's the news media in the story that report him dead. We never actually see him die. It's a classic soap opera routine. Usually it doesn't matter whether we see a character die or not, but it's pretty obvious here that he's meant to pop back up eventually. It's too easy. Some secret organization or individual whisks Cap away where he heals, and in a few months the return of Captain America!

i was thinking about the  whole captain america murder and was thinking what if it ended up being WinterSoldier?  it would be pretty ironic and a plottwist if his old sidekick was the killer.  And he did have prior skills as a soviet assasin im pretty sure. so does anyone else think maybe it was?
Posted:  08 Mar 2007 05:30
That is actually the first person I thought of. Could have been Winter Soldier. Very interesting.

so yea i think that would actually be a good opening for the civil war series to take since no one really knows where he is the last time i heard.  and the big plot twists could continue for another issue or two with him coming back from no where.

Do none of you even readcomics? Sharon Carter shot Cap point blank in the stomach under the psychic influence of Red Skull's daughter, cretins. And if any of you at all paid the slightest bit of attention to anything other than the damn news, i.e. Civil War: The Initiative, you'd know that Cap is not dead, but he's in critical condition on the Raft. One thing is for sure though, someone else will take the mantle for at least a little while, whether that's Winter Soldier or Punisher, given the ending to Civil War, has yet to be seen. Pull your heads out of your asses and read something, and stop being so freaking closed-minded to new ideas.
Posted:  08 Mar 2007 14:01
There's no way he stays dead. This is just a plot to sell comics and push a potential movie. He's a legend and this exposure will just bring new people into the fold. Marvel ain't dumb.

I missed Civil War: The Initiative not enough money, why don't you fill us is in on that in a little more detail.

And have pity on us poor folk that can't afford every comic in the Civil War line. I've got the main Civil War mini series and a subscription to Cap, Spidey, Superman, Action, Wizard, and the Hulk. A man only has so much money.

Yes

Excuse the shit out of us. Our hero died and we had an emotional response. We'll delve deeper when our heads clear.

If you claim to know as much about comics as you do, why do you say Winter Soldier and The Punisher? They seem opposites of Cap to me.

Who the hell died and made you king? Some of us saw the news first. And who said we were close minded to new ideas? I never saw that anywhere. Reading comics is a hobby of mine. I have a job and a family to take care of. So as I said earlier, excuse the shit out of me for not running to the comic shop and researching the internet for the latest Civil War news. I was probably at work you numb nuts. Why don't you pull your head out of your ass.

"Oh, look at me! I know everything about comics. Everyone else is stupid and has their head up their ass. I'm the comic master, blah, blah, blah."

Jackass.

Don't let it get to you dude.  The next thing you know everybody will be throwing around F-words, and junk.

I think sometimes people say things just to see what kind of response they can get.

Plus it could be he's angry too, and taking it out on fellow Cap fans. I'm not trying to sound like Gandi or something mind you if this was a basketball court or a football field there would be other ways of releasing hostilities in a way that makes words of no effect.

I feel like I felt when the Beatles broke up. I just hope I won't have to feel like I felt when John was murdered and there would never be another chance for them to Come Together.

Play nice boys and girls! You may want to check the story line in Captain America 109-112 for an "old-tmers" perspective. Some good stuff from Kirby and absolutly awesome artwork by Steranko. Caps "funeral" scene is nothing short of spectacullar. All this so Cap can get his secret identity back. Everything old is new again.

Dang it I ain't got those issues yet. I have 106 and then my collection skips to 116 or something. I need money.

Your right though storylines just get recycled generation to generation.

I admit I have not been reading the current storyline;  more a fan of the silver age comics.  But in the most recent Wizard (apparently to press before they knew, or could discuss, Cap's alleged death), they mentioned that Red Skull had "put together all the puzzle pieces for a master plan," and mentioned Arnim Zola.

Isn't he the guy who cloned Cap once before, and gave the Skull a new body by transferring his thought patterns and memory to the clone?  Any legs there?  Has the Grand Director been heard from since he apparently committed suicide?

The tombstone reads that he died in 1968. I wasn't even born yet!

Deadman, thank you for a constructive response. I appreciate it.

Thank you, my liege. I see where your coming from. How are Captain Yesterday and Cloberella?

The reason I get mad all the time is because if this CrimsonDespot characther told someone to pull their head out their ass in a comic shop he probably would get his ass whooped. Same with Captain. It's easy to have a smart mouth on a message board, no repercussions.

Tis true, that's why I'm a firm believer in action over words, but you know you got to love the way Cap always throws in the perfect words whilst beating the crap out of a villain.

Hey everyone. I've been visiting this site for a few years and just decided to join the forum. The news of Cap's death hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday. I was at work and i rolled up my sleeves because it was hot and this lady i was ringing up saw my captain america tattoo and was like "you know he's dead, right?" I couldn't believe it. Then a few people told me that it was all over the news and it was. To make matters worse I went to the comic shop after work and they already sold out and the worst part about it all is the price gouging on this issue!

I hope the writers win the lottery.......and then find they have severe brain cancer the next day.  Going to the gun range and fantasize this weekend.

Captain Rogers

I  am like the rest of you, baffled. I think someone will wear the uniform for a while, at least until Steve Rogers wears it again. I am not sure who could fill his shoes....and maybe that is the point.
Posted:  09 Mar 2007 10:50
Well, it suggests that Frank Castle will wear the mask, but Tony Stark has the shield...
