Hooray!!!

As a longtime fan of Captain America, I'm finding it hard to believe that his "death" will be permanent. Cap deserved better than to go out in such a trite manner. I've read the comics where Wolverine verifies the corpse is really Cap and blah, blah, blah. I've also been reading comics for far too many years to believe that ANYTHING is what it appears to be on first reading.

Here's what I see as one of many possible outcomes from the current storyline...

Thor returns and searches for his "brother of Mjolnir" in Valhalla after hearing of Cap's death. Remember the time Cap lifted Thor's hammer? This bonded the two of them in Thor's view.

The "clone theory" is a real possibility also, but Marvel doesn't have very much luck with clones, do they?

Nick Fury might play into Cap's return as well. But whatever happens, I think we'll discover that Stark has been acting under the control of somebody else. How many times has THAT happened before? He's acting more like a villain than a hero these days.

One last comment... both Marvel and DC are overplaying the "government conspiracy" plot. I don't doubt that this happens in real life on some scale, but the comics are getting to the point where everything leads back to some plot by a secret government agency. Let's see something original.

Dead Cap is a clone might be ok.
Yes everything is a government conspiracy anymore isn't it.

Some how maybe it will all be revealed as a plan by Captain America to draw out the Red Skull into making a mistake.

SWEET

First post, greetings ya'll.

My own opinion is that it was a two part assassination plan.  Seriously, just shooting Captain America isn't enough for the Red Skull is it?  The first bullet from Crossbones at the base of his neck had a device (I believe Skull was working with Dr Doom recently) which transported  Cap soul into Skull's cosmic cube.  He then had Faustus brainwash Carter into killing the body.  Now Cap is trapped while Skull is set to enact his plan to destroy his country, friends, etc. with him helplessly watching.

So now we have a fight in which Falcon, Barton, etc. all come to rescue Cap.  Only his body is dead, so his soul can only pass on, where it goes to where all fallen soldiers go in the Marvel U: Valhalla, where he meets a long absent Thor just in time to face down some threat to Asgard.  The end result of the war somehow leads to Cap's resurrection, only with his shield having gained magical properties similar to Mjolnir, Thor's hammer.

So...cool, or lame?
Posted:  31 May 2007 22:19
Interesting, I wouldn't call it lame just interesting. Depends on how it would come out in a real life comic. Might not sound so cool in a real book you just don't know till you hold it in your hands.

I haven't been to this site in a long time. Good to be back. I hate to repeat what others have said, but I haven't read all the posts, I'm coming in Johnny Come Lately style. Here goes:

I have been completely bored by Ed Brubaker's work, then wham! All of the sudden they kill off Cap without warning. My first instinct, is: yeah right - he'll come back in a couple of weeks. Then I read Fallen Son Captain America and see that Tony Stark tries to give the uniform to the resurected Hawkeye, Clint something. Then I see Cap's corpse laying on a gurney - aged and skinny - as if the super serum has reversed itself. Now I'm getting nervous.

In the end I think Marvel will do the right thing and have Tony Stark declare that, despite several tryouts, there is no replacing the man behind the uniform because Steve Rogers and Captain America are one in the same. The Captain America flagship issues will continue on with same old, tired conspiracy dreck about the Winter Soldier, Red Skull and the other lackeys, *yawn*.

Then ... just as the previews for the Cap movie begin to surface, wham! Steve Rogers will be back, some way, some how. Me likes the theory of Thor bringing him back - but how about some hardcore/controversial, and modern, stuff like a SHIELD covert cloning operation? Somehow they get his DNA, with the super soldier serum preserved, and "grow" a test tube Steve Rogers for the time that he is dead. I'd prefer something like that versus that whacky stuff back in the day where the Red Skull switched his mind with Steve Rogers' mind, or he transfered his consciousness into another body.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all about the sanctity of life and am not for cloning of any sort. However, this is a comic book and given a choice, I want Steve Rogers back by any means necessary, not another b-list hero upgraded to Captain America status by virtue of a uniform switch.

As Steve Rogers was conflicted with himself in the 60's for being a man 20 years out of time, the cloned Cap could be at odds with himself simply for being a clone. Very modern, topical stuff. Maybe it's one of those things where ONLY the readers, Nick Fury & Tony Stark know he's a clone.

Whatever. Bring Steve Rogers back. Period. Don't give me the f***ing Task Master in the red, white & blue.

At the end of the day, if Steve/Cap gets a huge publicity boost out of all this and puts the character at the top of the Marvel Throne alongside Spidey and Wolvey (where he belongs), then it might have all been worth it. I want Cap back in the American conscious with movies, toys, fast food tie-ins, everything. Many folks my age don't even know who Cap is ... but they all know Spider-Man and Wolvering ... they may even know Hell Boy and Ghost Rider. Maybe Marvel is looking for a way to put Cap back on top. I hope that's what all this is about.

If it's all about putting Cap on top, and Steve Rogers comes back, I'll be happy.

I still can't belive that Cap is dead. When My mom told me I was like no way I grew up reading his comics and now that the The Powers To Be has killed off Captian America. What ever happend to the sheild agent who shot him. I think she should pay for what she did and I don't care if she was under a spell she should pay for this. I say lets protest Kriby and demand him and his partner in crime to bring our beloved Steve Rogers back. Hey is Civil War out in paperback yeat.
Posted:  11 Jun 2007 17:05
i'm pissed off too.

but sharon the person who shot him was hipotized.

it really bummed me out BEST SONG EVER is what i say.

it's by Chad Kroger. "Hero"

Hope you liked it!!!!!

Maybe it was an LMD that got shot. Or maybe Sharon is having a bad dream. I'm reaching for straws here.

They showed a 'corpse' in issue 26. Looks like the Super Soldier Serum wears off upon death. Caps body looked skinny and decrepit. But Stark was there so who knows what he's up to.
