I think I know who should definitely play Captain America, James Franco, he plays Harry Osborn in the Spider-Man movies, I think that he would be the best person to play Captain America. __________________

I'm not sure about him as Captain America, but I do like his movies. The fact he's taking so many acting jobs in war movies says a lot. I think his biggest problem might be that our generation is not willing to accept new action heroes, and the younger generation isn't about war movies, or maybe it's just timing. Franco was good in that last movie he played in Flyboys. It didn't make much money I guess, but it should have.
You got to see the end of that movie if you haven't yet.
But playing Cap might not work. He's more like a James Dean quite spoken kind of hero. Plus Cap doesn't look like James Dean. Yet one more but. We could do a lot worse. You know what Hollywood is capable of in their choses of actors sometimes. __________________

James Franco is a wuss therefor he will not be playing CAP or anyother superheros, unless he plays stickman, or scrawnydude of course.

Seriously, he's not bad, but how about a compromise you play Cap, and he can play Bucky.

Quote: My opinion is that I think that he would be the best person to play Captain America. Here is where you make your mistake, by using the word 'best'. You think Franco is the 'best' choice for Cap? Can he even grow facial hair?
Rent the following movies so you can understand what real action heroes are like:
Rambo trilogy
Anything with Chuck Norris from the 70's an 80's
Aliens (Michael Biehn as Corporal Hicks)
Death Wish
The Dirty Dozen
The Great Escape
Dirty Harry movies
Clint Eastwood westerns (Outlaw Josey Wales,
Fistful of Dollars, High Plains Drifter, etc.)
Indian Jones
The French Connection
Any Arnold movie (Conan, Terminator, Predator)
Am I supposed to be impressed by 'Fly Boys' after growing up with the above line-up? Franco is pond scum compared to these guys. __________________Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Ok nobody is knocking the great ones by any means, but compare Franco to the rest of the dudes out there now. He may not be Rambo, but he's more like an average guy kind of action hero.
Now have you seen Flyboys yet? It's got a lot of great aerial World War I combat action, and the ending is bad I'm telling you and I mean bad in a good sense. It ain't no sissy movie if that's what you think.
He ain't Clint Eastwood by any means, but I kind of think he might make a decent Jimmy Stewart kind of actor. __________________

Quote: Now have you seen Flyboys yet? I gave it 10 minutes longer than I gave Napoleon Dynamite, I watched it for 20 minutes.
Quote: It ain't no sissy movie if that's what you think. No, it didn't look like a sissy movie at all. I'm just old, set in my ways and laugh when I see Franco trying to be a hero.
I freely admit, I should get past my dislike of these new 'action' heroes and give them a chance. Just seems I get burned every time. I apologize, but I always think about John Rambo escaping the police station as one of the best action sequences ever. __________________Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

No need to apologize, its a fun discussion. I think you should watch the whole Flyboys movie though. It gets better the longer you watch.
The way I look at it, the more we watch and support movies that are at least decent and not pushing some sissy Hollywood agendas the more action films we are going to get.
I watched the last Statman movie Crank, and I like his movies, but it was filled with such blasphemy and cursing that I felt like I was watching a film made by a porn director.
I want action, but I don't need wall to wall cursing. I like the main character to be someone I can identify with at some level.
Plus I just like war movies in general so give Flyboys a chance. Sounds like a backwards hippy slogan don't it? "Give War a Chance" __________________

I'll watch Flyboys. You sold me, Tim. I just think of that article I posted then I think of Franco playing CAP, and that does not mix too well. I think he is too tall to play Bucky, but I would still make him look short-ish, so maybe?
Statham is pretty good. I think you are right though about the action movies. If we watch the okay ones, maybe they will make more that are actually good, then we can enjoy. Either way, Hollywood will never forget the dough they have made off good action movies, therefor they will always come back. We are just in a little slump right now.
At least they are doing another Band of Brothers though. This time it focuses on The Marines! I have intel they are casting roles for Chesty Puller and John Basilone! Better believe I am going to hit my agent up about this project.

Now this is my new opinion on a story for the new Captain America movie, first James Franco can play Captain America and Hayden Christensen can be Bucky a.k.a. Winter Soldier, second it should start off with his Origin (him being part of the Super Soldier project, him getting his costume and shield, him fighting in World War 2), next it should be him getting his new costume and shield, last the story should be him fighting the Nazis, Red Skull, and the Shatari as usual. __________________

I think Brendan Frazier is the optimal choice for the role of cap.He was in the Mummy movies and showed versatility and range in Bedazzled with Elizabeth Hurley.Arnold the Governator would be excellent as the Red Skull.

Quote: Brendan Frazier
He is a Canuck. I (and many others) feel that it is important to have an American actor play CAP. I know a non-american actor could do fine job with the acting, but imagine the press tour! That would be horrible to have the actor that plays CAP speaking about the movie with a British, aussie, or whatever accent!
Also, Frazier is a wuss and has the build I describe as "skinny fat"

I have seen movies with Brendan Frazier as far back as Encino Man with Pauly Shore and never knew he was Canadian.Thank you WHO311 for the information.Since there is no Commander Canada and there is a shortage of actors over six foot that can act at the caliber that Captain America deserves, maybe considering a Canadian isn't such a bad idea.It would have to sit with you better than the James Bond guy.I am sure any actor considering the role of Cap most assuredly would bulk up.

If the Cap movie is done by Paramount and Iron Man is Marvels first solo movie, would a crossover be out of the question? How about the original Avengers story line? I think the Avengers would make a better movie.Nazis?Who really wants to see a Nazi movie with Captain America in it.Iron Man will Probably be out before Captain America even gets started. All of the work for an Iron Man character in an Avengers movie would already be done. The work for the Hulk is already done.Come up with Thor, female Captain Marvel,Wasp,Vision,Scarlet Witch,Henry Pym,Wonder Man.Heck they could even fight Baron Zemo.A Hulk during one of his brief moments of control could be excellent in live action.Any thoughts?

Greetings to everyone in the message board. I am a newbie and I have a suggestion for the movie. I also like John Cena for the part, but as another option, I suggest Mark Wahlberg.
Given the two, I would prefer Cena because of build, look, and athletic ability.

Eric Dane. Definetly. Has a name (Grey's anatomy) but isn't known enough to have any roles attached to him yet. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0199312/
I don't think Cap's supposed to be as big as Cena, in my head he has more of an athletic build...

Just saw this on superherohype:
http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5855
It has a bit about the Captain America script that David Self is writing. It is half-half period piece and modern setting.
A director should get announced this year.

maybe if he worked out some more, how about Jensen Ackles from the TV series "Supernatural"?

Dolph Lundgren could work. He is starting to look a bit older, but war does that to even the youngest looking. He worked well as the Punisher in the first movie (wish they hadn't done a remake). His character had a lot of character and Lou Gossett and he worked well together.

That's probably the best suggestion I've heard so far. He would be really great as Cap and he can actually act. Right age and looks to play Cap, too. He already plays a hero on his show, he might as well make the jump to the big screen.

I've made my rounds of this message board and I must admit that I have seen some suggestions that I like, and then I have seen some that made me say to myself: "ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?"But the one suggestion that has struck me the most is that of JENSEN ACKLES.Â
Quote: Maybe if he worked out some more, how about Jensen Ackles from the TV series “Supernatural
The only word I have to say to that right off the bat:Â YES.
Jensen Ackles is an excellent actor. In Supernatural (a show of which I am a HUGE fan), he shows his dramatic side as well as his comedic side. I agree 110% with MsMeow... have Jensen bulk up a bit and I see a perty white star on his chest in the future.
But, if the suggestion of Jensen Ackles doesn't tickle your fancy like it does mine, take this name into consideration: Josh Duhamel.
I saw this name beforehand and I kind of like the idea. But of course, Jensen Ackles is my first choice.

I like Jensen Ackles on Supernatural. He plays the part well. He cracks me up the way he ribs his TV brother all the time. I guess he could play Cap, but he would be playing a completely different character from his Supernatural role. __________________

Did anyone see Reb Brown in Uncommon Valor? I never thought he could act until I saw him in it. Let's face it, the two volume Captain America he was in was badly conceived and even worse written. Absolutely no one could have pulled off making that into a 1) Good tv film and 2) a good film about Captain America. It was a poor introduction to Reb Brown though.
