Let's hope this doesn't get out of hand, but what is the history & theories on Cap's religion?  For that matter, how about any other characters (besides Thor& Dr. Druid & the Black Panther &Hercules ,etc - of course).

I can't think of an example off the top of my head from the comics, but I'm going with Christian. I don't think it's been explored in any books but I could be wrong about that. Might be somewhere where a particular denomination was given for Cap but if there is I don't know it. Supposed to be on dog tags so maybe if somebody has a picture from the comics of WWII Steve Rogers tags we can figure it out.

My guess is likely Anglican, just based on his background (1930's Brooklyn of english descent).

Now, he may not be practicing, though he is shown to be religious, I don't know if I've ever seen him in church.

http://comicbookreligion.com/ lists him as  a protestant with no other modifier as to the type of Christian, but like I said, I'ld guess Anglican.  He isn't Catholic, and although Lutheran, Methodist, or Baptist might be a possibility I think Anglicanism sort of fits into the motiff of 1940's idea of the American Ideal, which he is sort of designed ot embody.

I think he's a Protestant. I think I may have read that somewhere but I can't give you a source.

I've never seen any reference to his religion but the Army will list him as Protestant by default unless he says otherwise.  They even list atheists as Protestant.  Regardless of how much they protest.  Irony!

The army will list you as no preference recorded as opposed to Protestant the army isnt allowed to pick a religion for anyone because of burial rights

That comic book religion site is interesting, but it lists Green Lantern as Jewish Catholic. I've never heard of a Jewish Catholic unless they mean he was raised Jewish and became a Catholic later.

I can't think of anything or anywhere that I have read about Cap's religion except this last Ultimate Captain America mini series where he is seen praying

Check out that early 90s Infinity Crusade mini, the third chapter from Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War (Only Gauntlet was any good).  Warlock's religious side became human and sought out Marvel heroes who had some religious belief.  Cap was one of them.
Ultimate Cap was praying and reading the bible in his mini series.

Well, Cap/Steve Rogers born in Brooklyn or lower east side New York city (I think Bendis commented that he was born behind a bakery).  Christian rallies, parades, city churches, religious programs on radio, ... There must be research of New Yorkers' experiences (My city growing-up experience is probably different than NY).
Churches are veeeerrry different in the suburbs or in small towns.
Religion can be a very violatile topic to yak about.

Christian (or any other branch like Catholic), most common among Americans.

After more than 20 years of repeatedly telling the Army I'm an atheist they still have me listed as Protestant.

Maybe it's just me though.

That comicbook religion website is interesting and filled with more info than the average nerd (myself) can take.   It's probably the best source to go for this type of question.   IMO.   Matches may have it correct as far as his Anglican belief is concerned.
Interesting topic.

Don't forget, in the Ultimates he was practically leading a sermon if I remember right. Him living in New York in the 40s and being listed as Irish decent, I would think he's Catholic, that being general Irish faith. Who knows.
