Hello, I am new here and I am looking for a Cap. America shield. I found some steel 24 inch round steel shields online for $90. What do you think and is there any who I could get to paint it? Thanks Richard

Don't know of any shields for sale right now except this child's costume shield. http://superheromall.com/B0009RG94K/Child_Captain_America_Shield.html

As far as somebody to paint one, I don't know.

Thanks Tim! I found a 24 inch steel shield on a armour site for $90 and they will paint it but I have to send a picture to them to find out how much.

I would love to see a finished product when you have it. Pictures would be cool. The only official size shield I have ever seen is the one that guy has in the Cap fan film. It's really cool but I have no idea where he got it.

I have seen the one Tim has mentioned. It is for a childs costume. I saw an adult with one on youtube and it looks ridiculous, about the size of a small pizza, if that.

Good luck with your shield!

No one will do the paint job because of the copyright

You need to find a local painter maybe try a flea market or something.

yes and no, im currently living on a farm an while serching threw the old scrap pile we found these old discs. now im not 100% but i think they are from a cultivator. there are some flat ones and these concaved ones. this is the largest disc we have found all the others have been quite a bit smaller and we saved this one till we decided exactly what to do with it. I tried searching the john deere web site to see if i could find the discs(or blades?) to see what they are worth but no luck finding them but im sure you can buy them. so no i didnt buy but yes i think you can. for me it would be alot less work if i had purchsed them as they are pretty beat up an rusty BUT that also does give the steel a different look, pitted an a few dents gives the well used look to the shield that i kinda like. i think brand new ones would be alot smoother an mabey not as heavy steel as these old ones and expensive!

you can see on the table here in front of me a soon to be shield pretty much right outa the crap heap

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i76/toddo_69/DSC00346.jpg
here is the Caps shield on the left with first coat of red an on the right is the first shield we made its a medium sized one an pretty beat up now

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i76/toddo_69/DSC00362.jpg
added a handle and arm band and eventually filled that hole. now after doin some research it looks like the official would have leather straps? its so heavy im glad i used the steel band and handle, fits really nice

and done

i still need to wet sand to get the edges smoothed out, then clear coat to gloss it up. then i have to decide what to do on the back any ideas? i was thinkin black leather....i had an idea to do the american frag strips an stars under the flat leather too give it that 3d look but to still be subtle.

hey that is pretty awesome!.  They look like cultivator blades.  I didn't think about that.  Yours is going to look nice and authentic.

I made one for halloween out of one of those metal disc saucer sleds. It is a little pit bigger than yours.  I used adjustable straps, but, I think what you have is better.  The straps have a bit more 'play' in them than you would like.  The only advantage is that when you are tired of holding it you can strap it to you back.

Anyways, the back of Caps shield is completely red from the comics.

Will scan in some photos and post.

thanks for the info, still deciding on what to do with the back. We have a strap system worked out for another shield a smaller one we are gonna try it an see how it works out.

That is awesome!

Lightsabers. I make those. Fun and relatively simple.

That's because you made what everybody wants! If I had someting that cool, I would carry it around the mall and places like that. My wife said she would be mortified.

If you ever get time, could you post the directions on how you made the star and how you painted it? I want to make one now...and carry it around.

after painting the entire shield red i tapped the majority of the shield in a painters tape. i then used a large compass that i found in the shop and measured it out from center and drew a circle on the tape. i cut the cirle out wit ha sharp knife and peeled off the large cicle leaving just the empty spot on the shield for the blue. covered up the rest of the shield and sprayed the blue. the process for the white strip was pretty much the same, just made sure it was centered between the blue and the shield edge. and did 2 lines for the stripes peeled that off an sprayed the white

now with the white strip and the blue cirle done i basically layed out the star with tape. I used five pieces of tape for each edge of the star then cut out the over lapping pieces, made sure the top of the star was centered with the top of the shield (made that mistake before on another shield) taped off the rest of the shield leaving only the star in blue, sprayed it with the white a couple coats and peeled off the tape and done

i had another theory on how to do the star which is similar to the blue circle. tape off the whole blue cicle entirely then cut out the star shape and peel back the opening. i thought this would be much harder to keep the lines straight tho as i could not use a straight edge do to the curviture of the shield.

hope thats not too confusing, wish i had taken more pics of the tapped up shield but i was getting excited to see it done.all the paints i used with just regular spray cans i tend to like the automotive paints they usualy turn out pretty good but they are a bit more money. we did a shield for the pc game Oblivion and used a paint that was supposed to turn out like stone, they have alot of different types of "stone paint" but it really turned out nice very ruff stoney look.(have pics if interested)

CorporalAmerica any pics of your light sabers? id like to see!altho this might not be the best forum to postem:P im gonna fix up an online album of sum stuff i made tonight.....
