I really thought that we'd just get to stick with the Howlers to keep it more military, but here it is, from the lips of Joe Johnston:
EXCLUSIVE! Director Joe Johnston Will De-Wing Another Marvel Hero
The man who took the wings off of Cap's head in Captain America, director Joe Johnston, reveals for the first time that another Marvel hero will lose his wings!
Director Joe Johnston made an appearance on the floor of the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday to sign teaser posters for Captain America: The First Avenger and I managed to slip in a few questions about the movie. Read on...
Brent Sprecher: How's filming coming along?
Joe Johnston: Ah, we just started, but it's going great.
Brent Sprecher: Awesome. Was it hard to get away to come over here to do [the Con]?
Joe Johnston: Well, you know, they gave the crew a four-day weekend...everybody else gets four days off and we only get one.
Brent Sprecher: Are we going to get to see The Invaders?
Joe Johnston: Oh, yeah!
Brent Sprecher: Namor. Is he going to have little wings on his feet?
Joe Johnston: Ah, no.
Brent Sprecher: I'm really happy you're doing this movie.
Joe Johnston: Thank you. Thanks a lot. __________________I want a giant penny and a lifesize T-Rex statue in my high tech basement.

Some more news, this a lot more encouraging, as I love "Raiders of the Lost Arc," and I am an Oakland Raiders fan to boot!
The Marvel panel began with an exclusive Comic-Con teaser trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger. After the jump you can read my notes from the panel, including a description of the teaser and a full scene which was screened for Hall H.
The teaser begins showing clips from World War II superimposed over close-ups of the Captain’s shield, while audio plays of FDR’s “Day That Will Live in Infamy” speech. On screen text reads: “Stories emerged…. But one story has never been told…. Every army starts with one man.” Cut to a shot of a silhouette of Captain America. On screen text reads: “Next Summer you will meet the First Avenger” We then see a short shot of Chris Evans in costume as Captain America shown from behind/side. Captain America logo. Cut to another shot of Evans in costume, this time from the front view. We don’t get to see much as he tosses his shield at the camera.
Notes from the panel:
Director Joe Johnston calls the film “a classic adventure love story with an edge.” he says that his favorite movie of all time is Raiders of the Lost Ark, a movie which he also worked on. He says that Raiders feels as modern today as it did they day it was filmed. This is his goal for Captain America.
Joe says that while he has studied the complete history of the character, he’s a fan of the Brubaker version of the Captain America. So they decided to Borrow certain visual elements from Brubaker version, but are “going a bit more modern than the original.”
Johnston also says that “if we don’t love steve Rogers before he gets transformed, we won’t love him after.”
Filming has been going on for a few weeks now but Chris Evans only started on set five days ago and claims that he “did some nice gentle scenes to get my feet wet.”
Marvel head/producer Kevin Feige admits that Chris has only been in a test version of the suit. The footage from the teaser trailer was filmed at a costume test. “The suit is coming together well but isn’t finished yet.” he says it’s more realistic than the cartoony version of the suit that leaked a month back. “It is something that is unequivocally the Captain America uniform but fits the time period.”
Hugo Weaving says he listed to tapes of Werner Herzog to help him get the voice of Red Skull. He has only worked one day in the mask, and he has “only started” getting to “make the mask work. “

I am so super psyched that Namor is at Marvel and in Cap's movie instead of tied up at Fox. Why would you be disappointed that one of Cap's war buddies makes an appearance in his movie. Should the Warriors Three not be in Thor? It does sound crowded with Cap working with the Howlers and the Invaders and Skull with the Nazis and Hydra but I think it will work. Not gonna bash it 'till I see something. I think it's too cool that the Cosmic Cube has been thrown in. And since it has, Falcon better damn be in Cap 2!!! I think RDJ should pull a Tropic Thunder and blackface it up for Falc. Ain't nuthin' wroong wit dat

Yeah i found them this morning, but my damn paypal won't work. I don't know if any of you have ever had to deal with them, but both them and Ebay have THE WORST customer service i've ever encountered with any company. They just flat out don't give a shit.

Cap, Bucky, love interest, Invaders, Howlers, Arnim Zola AND Red Skull is way too much.
All you need is Cap, Bucky, love interest, Red Skull and the cosmic cube. A brief cameo of young Nick Fury and the Howlers would be pushing it, but still cool with me.
I'll check eBay for that poster. __________________I want a giant penny and a lifesize T-Rex statue in my high tech basement.

Crap, crap, crap. And now this from ComicBookMovie.Com. I've said before and I'll say it again, this movie is starting to have way too many costumed characters:
Take this with caution, but take it for what it is. When the pictures of Chris Evans leaving the Cirque Club in London surfaced, I was interested when I saw that he was with Amy Smart. It could have meant nothing, but I thought that maybe Amy Smart could be in 'Captain America: The First Avenger', since Chris is filming it in London. It makes total sense that Chris and Amy could have maybe gone out as two cast members, right?
I wanted to see if I could get insight on the possibility that Amy Smart may have a role in the film, and two seperate sources did confirm she had a role, however they both had different details, but they both link to Golden Girl.
Once source who wanted to be credited as JaiKilla e-mailed me saying that Smart would play Golden Girl (Betsy Ross), who would be a member of The Invaders, that would be used as a way to connect 'Captain America: The First Avenger' to 'The Incredible Hulk'. Apparently in the film Betsy Ross would have some family relation to Gen. Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross and Betty Ross.
Another source who did not want to be credited at all, claimed that Amy Smart would play the second Golden Girl in the comics, Gwenny Lou Sabuki, in the film with modifications to her backstory. Gwenny Lou Sabuki in the comics is the daughter of Japanese-American scientist Dr. Sam Sabuki, which would contradict Smart playing the role since she obviously nas no japanese in her. In the film she may instead be called 'Gwen Louis', who would be attracted to Steve and killed in the film.
Sorry for my lack of crediting sources, but I cant credit a source that does not exist, right?
'Captain America: The First Avenger' will be directed by Joe Johnston, and star Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Neal McDonough, Samuel L. Jackson, Stanley Tucci, Dominic Cooper and possibly JJ Feild. No word yet if Amy Smart is definantly in the film.

As long as Cap is the focus and the rest are just window dressing, I think it just adds to building the Universe. If they distract from Cap, that is one thing. If it just adds to the cool inside stuff that us geeks get, I think it is good. Like easter eggs in a movie that are out in the open.
When originally casting Hayley Atwill, there was some confusion if it was for Betty Ross/Golden Girl or Peggy Carter. Maybe we'll get both? Maybe Amy Smart will be cast as Sharon for the modern scenes or the Avengers movie?
The wings off of Namor don't bother me. John Byrne did the same thing. In a Cap movie, I don't think many people are going to be checking out Namor's ankles.
As usual, I'm going to wait until the final product and see the movie before I determine if it all works. __________________

When Steve met Sharon for the first time, he thought she was Peggy. So I'm thinking that Atwell would play Sharon in The Avengers, or a Cap sequel.

Although I haven't seen much of her acting, I could go for that. She's not hard on the eyes. Although I always though Jessica Biel would make for a great Sharon. __________________

Haley Atwell is playing Peggy Carter. Amy Smart is playing Golden Girl. I guess what you guys are suggesting is that since Sharon Carter can pass for Peggy Carter (daughter/mother), then Haley can take on the roles of both Peggy in the Cap WWII movie, and then resurface as Sharon in the modern-day Avengers. It kind of makes sense, I suppose.
I'm not a fan of Amy Smart, and I don't know why we Marvel is trying to jam so many darn costumed heroes into this movie. My biggest fear is that this will turn into Wolverine Origins. __________________I want a giant penny and a lifesize T-Rex statue in my high tech basement.

The rumors of the casting of Union Jack are flying fast and furious on Twitter and on www.comicbookmovie.com. Check 'em out, if you can stomach the news of yet another costumed hero involved in this plot. __________________I want a giant penny and a lifesize T-Rex statue in my high tech basement.

I was reading more about the Invaders over at comicbookmovie.com and it appears the Invaders will most likely be an amalgamation of the Invaders and the Howling Commandos. Union Jack and Dum Dum Dugan appear to be in, while Namor and Toro and the other Human Torch appear to be out. I'm OK with that. I actually thought this movie without the Invaders and a cameo from the Howling Commandos, I don't know why they didn't go about it this way, but oh well, wait and see, I suppose. __________________I want a giant penny and a lifesize T-Rex statue in my high tech basement.

NO MORE NAMOR! YAY!
EXCLUSIVE: Captain America Director Joe Johnston Addresses Sub-Mariner Rumors
There have been a growing groundswell of rumors regarding the appearance of Sub-Mariner in The First Avenger: Captain America, but CBM has a comment from director Joe Johnston on the subject.
Several weeks ago Johnston was asked about the fear of the possible appearance of Sub-Mariner and The Invaders overwhelming Steve Rogers' storyline.
"That talk about Sub-Mariner is just that...talk," says Johnston. "The Invaders make a memorable appearance but the story is solidly about Steve Rogers, his origins, and how he becomes Captain America." __________________I want a giant penny and a lifesize T-Rex statue in my high tech basement.
