So who is going to this year's Con and braving the masses?
Once again, I'm a glutton for punishment and will be going. It should be another crazy year. __________________

I'm sure Captain Samerica will be there! I wish I could but I'm in NY so I will probably never get there. I hate to say never though. __________________

Iw ould absolutely love to go, but im poor, sooo the best I can do is heroescon in charlotte, NC. That was a fun show, got to meet Steve Epting and Ron Garney. Ron was easily the more friendly of the 2.

I hear great things about Heroes. You probably will have a better con experience there.
Epting wasn't bad when I met him (San Diego last year?). I've seen Garney but never met him up close. __________________

I hope they don't treat the exclusive like they did the Black Lantern Hal and White Lantern Sinestro at Wonder Con. That was a pain. __________________

If I can get one, I'll pick up an extra for you too if you want. It will be cheaper that way then on ebay I think.

Sam, you going to make this on Saturday?
SATURDAY
6:00pm-7:00pm Marvel Studios: Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger
Producer Kevin Feige and special guests give you an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hall H
Unfortunately, I have to get ready to photography the Masquerade at this time otherwise I'd be all over a Cap panel. Dang them for putting it during their "prime time". I'm sure there will be stars there and I hope someone leaks it to the internet. __________________

Atomic, yeah I saw that on the SDCC website.
I don't know what I'm going to do! There are so many cool things to do on Saturday night!
I want to go to the masquerade, and also these cool Saturday evening events......
(I wish I could split up into people and go to all of these. Will I even have time to eat!?!?!?)
4:00-5:00 Taking Back the Knight: Batman in the 1970s and Beyond— The 1960s Batman TV show -- fun as it was -- left the public thinking the Caped Crusader was more of a clown than a crimefighter. In the 1970s, editor Julius Schwartz, along with writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Neal Adams (mostly in collaboration with inker Dick Giordano), decided to take back the Knight to his darker origins. The resulting character became the template for the next three decades, a time span marked by Batman's huge success in films and other media. Moderator Mark Evanier talks with Comic-Con special guests Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams about their rebirth of the Bat and with Paul Levitz on how that re-creation took Batman to even greater heights. Room 8
4:15-5:15 Marvel Animation: Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes— Enter the Avengers Mansion and become a part of the team! Celebrity voice talent introduce you to top-secret Avengers files, including never-before-seen footage and two full-length episodes from the all-new Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series premiering on Disney XD this fall. The road to the Avengers starts here! Room 6DE
5:00-6:00 G4: Attack of the Show— G4's Attack of the Show is TV's first -- and only -- live daily show dedicated to the "digital generation." Breaking the hottest web videos, latest gadgets, blogs, and videogames, AOTS takes its audience to the virtual watercooler, where you can then tell your friends that you saw it on AOTS first! Kevin Pereira, Olivia Munn, Alison Haislip, Blair Butler, and AOTS producers bring you the closest thing to being on a live episode of Attack of the Show, an interactive Comic-Con panel! Plus, see the world premiere music video "I'm Awesomer Than You," written by Parry Gripp for AOTS starring Kevin and Olivia, and you can only see it at this panel. You'll also get a chance to grill the hosts and executive producers of the show and find out the dirty secrets and television tricks behind your favorite stunts on the show. Indigo Ballroom, San Diego Hilton Bayfront
6:00-7:00 Marvel Studios: Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger— Producer Kevin Feige and special guests give you an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hall H
7:15-8:45 Kevin Smith— He's back! Spend a quiet, refined evening with the one-and-only Kevin Smith, who will no doubt solve all the bad things in the world for you or, at the very least, make you laugh a few hundred times. Hall H
8:30-10:30 With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story— With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story is a feature length documentary on Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee, the co-creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, X-Men, Hulk and over 500 other comic book characters. Learn how Stan rose from his humble Brooklyn beginnings to co-creating many of the world's most well known characters! Following the screening will be a brief panel with Stan "The Man" Lee himself, executive producers Michael Uslan (The Dark Knight) and Tom DeSanto (X-Men, Transformers), actor Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk TV Show), illustrator Jim Lee (Marvel, DC), writer Paul Levitz (former president and publisher of DC Comics), Jack Kirby biographer Mark Evanier, and the With Great Power producing team of Terry Dougas, Nikki Frakes, and Will Hess. You won't want to miss this one! Room 6BCF
10:00-12:00 Kevin Smith presents Cop Out in "Maximum Comedy Mode"— Director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy) is on hand for the world premiere presentation of Cop Out in "Maximum Comedy Mode," the latest innovation in home entertainment viewing that showcases the comical stunts, improves, and hi-jinks that went into creating this side-splitting buddy cop film. Bruce Willis (Die Hard) and Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) star as bickering Brooklyn cops on the hunt for a stolen 1952 mint-condition baseball card, plunging them into a gun-slinging war with a deadly drug ring. "Maximum Comedy Mode" features Kevin Smith and Seann William Scott making onscreen appearances to guide Blu-ray viewers through the behind-the-scenes hilarity. Stop by for a bundle of laughs and a bucket of popcorn, courtesy of Warner Bros. Indigo Ballroom, San Diego Hilton Bayfront

I hear you. I have to show up a couple hours early to photograph the masquerade so the Cap panel is out for me. I have some friends who are doing a panel at the same time as well. Why did they have to schedule all this stuff right at the same time? Ugh!
I'm working on my panel cheat sheet and will post later. __________________

Another Cap-related one from Thursday's selection of panels....
5:30-6:30 Comics Academy and the Death of Captain America—
Jeffrey Kahan (University of La Verne; author, Caped Crusaders 101) provide an example lesson plan and display how to use comic books in the classroom. David Rojas (founder of Comics Academy) lectures on "The Death of Captain America" and how to relate this story in the classroom and what it means for the future of comic book publishing. The Comics Academy seeks to foster an appreciation of comic books and graphic novels in academia; it promotes using comic books to spark investigation into academic subject areas and to teach abstract concepts in K-12 education. I tend to hang out with friends from the podcasting community when at the con and we get together for dinner after the con. If anyone is interested, drop on by. After Preview Night on Wednesday, we'll be at the TILTED KILT, on the other side of the ballpark. Thursday looks like THE ROCK BOTTOM BREWERY around 6:30-7pm-ish. __________________

Even though I do have a weekend pass w/ preview night, I only expect to be at the con Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
I will be going to Seaworld, Legoland, SD Zoo, Wild Animal park, etc... with the kids during the week.
Question:
While I have been to SDCC before, I have never gone to Preview night. What am I missing that night?
Are all the dealers there? Is it like a normal con day, only for a few hours at night?

Normal day (or night). Sometimes the artists in Artist's Alley blew it off in past years but lately it has been as packed as a Saturday. Basically, it is just first crack at the dealer's room.
Ah, enjoy the Kid's Tour of SD. I had to pass on Lego Land and Disney Land a few weeks back but my nephew got himself a fake kids driver's license at Lego Land and now INSISTS he can drive ANY car. Watch out, Mom and Dad! __________________

Hey Atomis my kids did get the Legoland drivers license, in fact I went and got one too lol!
To me preview night was tops!!
It was crowded, but not crazy crowded like Saturday.
It was normal crowded like a Friday Wondercon, so that was good.
Also everything was in stock that night, exclusives etc...
Also the lines for sketches were short, I got a Neal Adams Batman sketch that night right in front of me!
I went on Friday to get another Neal sketch, but had to wait almost 2 days to pick it up from him as he was backlogged.
There were a few things I saw on Preview night that I put off thinking I would get it later, but when I came in first thing on Friday they were sold out.
So yeah lesson learned.
Preview night rocked!

In recent years, Preview Night was the NEW Saturday but they are starting to limit the numbers now. In fact, only 15,000 next year. Worse yet, 4-day passes WITH Preview Night for next year....are already SOLD OUT!! They sold out by 3pm on Sunday, the last day of Comic-Con 2010. Crazy!!
This year, I focused on artist sketchbooks and cheap DC Silver for my purchases. I did pick up the Cap exclusive figure. I waited too long and missed out on the Galactus though (but a version with the Silver Surfer will be on sale in the Fall). I thought I might pick up the Starro/JLA exclusive but passed when I got up close to the set.
Here is some Cap cosplay from around the con....

Whaaaaat!?!??! Sold out already!?! WTF!?!?!
This really sucks, I think Preview night was awesome and I didn't buy next years pass at the con!!
Too me, Preview night is the perfect time & place to walk around and do some shopping and look for some sketches. The other days are perfect to just walk around, take pics, attend panels, etc... and not have to worry about doing any shopping with the long lined massive crowds.

If you can swing a press or exhibitor's badge, you can get in but A). It might be tough to do that for your whole family and... B). Booths selling exclusives don't always sell to Exhibitors on Preview Night (too much flipping going on in the past).
The last few years, I was making it a tradition to buy next year's con on Sunday at the end. I'm glad, for some reason, I bought mine on Saturday. __________________

Well P.S. look at the bright side I'm sure they still have the regular admissions tickets available. I had the chance to go in 2007 as we were in the area for business and didn't really want to go. My wife asked me several times but I'm mainly a reader of the books. I went to a Beatlefest a few years ago and it weired me out!
