WOW, WOW and WOW!!!
Cool stuff, I expected something like that, it made sesnse to have a costume like a souped-up uniform, I like the boots, the upper part kinda looks like the comics version whereas the lower part looks like army boots...
I still think it's a bit futuristic for something made in the 1940'S, and I really miss the wings, unless they're concealed under the helmet, that is...

I don't NOT like it. I guess it'll have to grow on me. The red "suspenders"...I do not like. Should have axed those and kept the old style red and white midriff.

Crap!!
The Ultimates "crapaverse" has destroyed a 60 yr. icon.
Jack Kirby has got to be spinning in his grave!
The helmet has a Nazi style fit to it.
No wings! The Wings are symbols of the fighting American Eagle.
What's with all the gray trim? Ultimates crap!
And DarthLemmy is right...Red Suspenders?! This is just another way "Hollyweird liberals" can take our Flag and other American symbols out of the equation so as not to offend the assholes of the world.
Give me a break!

That's pretty much what I was expecting. Very Ultimates looking. It's definitely Captain America though. Just paint some wings on that helmet.

That's kinda what I thought they would make it look like. I'm glad they kept the shield!!!
Now there will be plenty of comic acurate shield toys next summer!
As for the costume, I don't mind it too much as a "movie" version Cap. I just don't like the red suspenders. Who knows they might fix that by film time. Over all, it could have been way worse.
Philly Avenger- I understand what you are saying and that you don't like the Ultimates version of Cap.
It's just that I think it would be difficult to take the 1941 design of Cap and make it come to life on film and still work.
I love the original Cap design as well, I'm glad this is not his comic book costume.
For a live action movie version in 2011, I think it's decent, just replace the suspenders with the red & white abs.
It does look odd though without the wings.

Pros: The gloves, boots and shield.
Cons: Shoulder pads and straps.
Overall: Looks too modern still. I would have rather had the Ultimates 1940s rendition. I seriously doubt material like that would be available at that time. Nothing in the era suggests those materials were available at the time. They really took too much from Spider-man here when they should have went with variant USA soldier gear.
On a high note, you all might get your classic Kirby costume in the U.S.O scene lol. __________________"--When the mob and the Press and the whole WORLD tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world 'No you move'."

What do you mean too modern of materials??? We STILL don't have adamantium metal to make a perfectly balanced and indestructible shield from. Also even in 2010 we don't have Iron Mans armor with all its toys so who's to say what's too modern. Not just the person of Cap but his whole outfit is supposed to be unique. And no, I still don't want the clunky Ultimates C.A. Costume. Please remember this is fiction.

I can't stand the helmet. No wings?! What's up with that?! And the suspenders have to go. Hopefully this just a draft. Maybe they'll tweak it before its finished. But at least they didn't ruin the shield too.
I don't see what's so great about the Ultimates that they have to change almost everything in the original comics that we've been reading for years. Why can't they leave well enough alone?

I think what you have to look at is how well his costume will translate on the big screen. Take X-men for example. Can you really say Wolverines yellow costume or brown and red costume would have looked good on the silver screen? I despise the black latex, but I would have cringed if he was running around in either of his iconic costumes.

Well, here's my .02 and it's long winded because I haven't posted in a while. Trust me, it's a good read:
So, for starters, the movie is taking place in WW2 correct? Answer: correct. So, yes they had to go with a more "ultimates" look to the costume. Which I'm all for with a few minor adjustments. You can't throw the Reb Brown or traditional costume in there as it would look ridiculous and over the top. Even in the upcoming Avengers movie, it would be a bit much. As many has said here, some costumes just don't translate well to t.v. or the big screen. That's been proven time and again.
Now, I personally think they should have gone with what was in the Avengers animated movie. I'm talking the costume in the beginning of the movie when it was in WW2. That, to me, is Captain America.
But, the question is, what does everyone think of the supposed leaked pics of what Chris "Johnny Storm" Evans will be wearing.
Well, in my humble opinion, the shield, pants, boots and the gloves are fine. Whatever. They're pants, boots and gloves. If you start getting technical with that stuff, might as well put a dress on and swish around for us. You belong in fashion design. Thankfully, the shield is there.
Moving on; Philly Avenger got it right: the helmet looks too nazi to me and is quite simply awful. awwwfuul. oh my word, please re-work that because it looks like a 3rd grader came up with that design. and it looks nazi as we both said.
As for the torso, since when is Cap into wearing suspenders? Really? That's the best they can come up with? Piss poor if you ask me. (tell us how you really feel Yank). I know they are trying they're best to appeal to a broad audience and of course you can't offfeeennd anyone by looking too patriotic so lets really tweak the costume and make it look more PC. As Shield Bearer said in so many words, it's a hollywood idiot thing.
Overall, it does look too futuristic for the time period the movie will be in. They would have been better off with Bucky's costume (which I like) than this, well, whatever you call it.
Look, I've made no secrets of what my fears of this movie will be and this is just not helping the situation. I know they struck gold with IM and IM2 and Thor sounds badass, BUT, as I said once before, this is a movie that should have been made a long time ago. And that abysmal Matt Salinger movie doesn't count. The bottom line is, the way the world is now, especially this country and where I fear it's headed, the movie is not going to be what we all want or what it should be. I have very little faith that it will meet expectations. Boy I hope I'm wrong.....

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This rules. I've been saying it for years and years and years: all of you Kirby Cap Uniform lovers are delusional. There is NO ROOM for short-shorts, buccaneer boots and wings on the head in the Cap movie version of the costume. I feel so vindicated after taking so much gruff over the years on this board. Ultimate Cap is the best Cap, 'nuff said.

This is F@#$K*&G AWESOME!!!! Thank god! The only thing I'm not real crazy about are the shoulder pads but i'm definatly not going to complain! I disagree totally with the "liberal hollywood" theory also. His costume is still red, white and blue. any way you cut it. so what if they made the red stripes kit straps. they are still there. Plus, you can't mistake the shield. I see no evidence here at all of them dulling down the "americana" of his outfit. That's cap! Good job Joe!

I'm with Andy. Paint wings on the side of the helmet. It looks like they did their best to make the costume look believable. I am surprised that they didn't use the Ultimates WW2 costume, though I have a feeling we may see that costume briefly as a cameo. I think Marvel will have alot of little treats in store for us with this movie.
Y'know? I thought about writing the editor of the comic awhile back, because I always thought that it would be cool if Cap wore the flag patch where those stars are on his shoulders like our soldiers do. Just my opinion. What do you guys think?

Y`know Rod, if you really look at it, thats not much different from what they`ve made. His pants aren`t so loose. Words can not express how disappointed I am. if this is the direction they took with the costume, I dread seeing what the rest of the films gonna look like. Cap with supsenders? Whats next? Namor in a thong? Where do they come up with this crap.

Hello all, long time reader, 1st time poster. I hope the link works. I tried to post a picture of revisions I would make to the Cap concept art. Basically I expanded the use of the chain mail look to the chest plate, changed the sizing on the star and A and removed the stars from the shoulders (too many patches make it look like NASCAR). I also added an extra red stripe but left the suspenders/utility belt. I would probably go more basic on the pants. the pattern work is unnecessary and blue fatigue pants would seem to fit the era better. The look should not be too modern or futuristic. If we had something better than what the average soldier wore in 1940, wouldn't we put it on all our fighting men. That's why the chain mail works so well. It adds protection, but the average soldier would not have the strength and stamina required to lug it around. Also, the uniform should stick out like a sore thumb in combat. That was its purpose, to draw enemy fire, intimidate the Nazis and inspire the troops. Let Fury and the commandos skulk in the shadows, Cap was there to lead the charge.

I don't think the Cap concept art is from WW2. It has got to be a present time costume. Second, who's to say that his ORIGINAL WW2 costume isn't the classic we have all(maybe not all), have grown to love. It depends on how the character will be written. Will he be the soldier who carries a tommy gun and shoots an occasional Nazi, or will he be the propaganda machine who takes pictures in front of a giant "BUY WAR BONDS" sign, kissing a baby while singing with the Andrew Sisters. All I know is, I really want this film to be awesome. And with Marvel making some of their own property into movies, I think(hope) this will be EPIC.

There should be a petition to put WINGS ON CAPTAIN AMERICA'S HELMET. Even Thor needs wings. If the Golden Age Human Torch had some feather (Like Namor and Cap) he would be around today, not remade as a teenage hothead who's part of an Explorers of the unknown book.

Actually, painted wings on the helmet would look pretty cool. It would give it some flair! I really do think they did a great job with this. I know people don't like change but a super bright spandex-ish costume in live action just looks lame. Iv'e said it a million times with the Salinger movie. That costume was classic to the max but it was just an eye sore in live action. It could have been worse tho. At least he wasn't running around with a see-thru shield and a motorcycle helmet. LAME! Cap has always been one of my favorite super heros of all time but iv'e always found his outfit to be a bit much. That's why i'm such a fan of the ultimates version because they dulled it down and made him look more like what he is. A SOLDIER! Not to mention it just looks TOUGH! I say give it a chance. This outfit will look badass in live action. Also.. let's all just be grateful they didn't mess with the shield! That would have infuriated me to no end! I'm lookin forward to this movie now more than ever! Still curious what they are going to do with Bucky tho.

I wanted to touch on something DarthLemmy said. I was too wondering if this wasn't the WW2 era costume or not. Granted, as far as we know the film is going to be set in WW2, so that leads us to believe that, that would be the era of the costume, but we don't really know.

Guys, I really think we will get THREE costumes in the movie: classic Kirby for he USO shows, Ultimate WWII style uniform for the WWII period of the movie, then book-end with this modern uniform for the set up to sequels and THE AVENGERS.
The modern stuff will be used for marketing and to sell toys and lunch pails. Plus, how many more action figures can they sell if there are 3 different uniforms, ala Iron-Man or Black/Red Spidey?
I'm down with Stiches75 comments. Later, true believers. __________________I want a giant penny and a lifesize T-Rex statue in my high tech basement.
