So what will Captain America's costume look like in his upcoming movie? The new slate of Marvel films hasn't really had to tackle the spandex-costume issue head on yet, what with Iron Man wearing armor and the Hulk wearing, well, not much. But Chris Evans' Star-Spangled Avenger? That's a different story.

Now the folks over at JoBlo are saying that they've seen an "approved costume test" from the film. Apparently, Cap will wear two different sets of duds -- we've heard this before, as he'll have the costume he wears for his USO appearances that's more flashy and then his actual active duty suit which will be more appropriate for combat. The latter is the one JoBlo saw, and also, it would seem, the primary costume in the film. Here's what we can expect:

-- The wings on the cowl are gone.
-- The cowl itself is gone too, replaced by a traditional Army helmet (ala The Ultimates).
-- The "A" on the forehead remains.
-- As with the entire suit, the blue is much more muted than in the comics.
-- The white star on the chest remains but is not as prominent as in the comics.
-- Instead of red and white stripes on the abdomen, this costume just has a white base with two red utility belts acting as stripes. "These belts affix to a metal loop at the midpoint of the chest and a black strap extends up to the shoulders from that point," says the site.
-- The fabric appears to be a sort of leather, ala the X-Men films.
-- There's an old-school utility belt with a buckle and pockets.
-- The shield is very close to the classic design.

"The suit actually has a practical WWII military look to it with some of the obvious Captain America  flourishes that we would expect," concludes the site. "It's hard to really pass judgment on a costume until you see it properly lit, in motion and doing what it's meant to do. But based on what I saw, I'm pretty impressed with how they were able to adapt the costume for the film."

The suit is an insult to Kirby's original vision, even the ultimates Cap outfit is better, and I detest it....its only redeeming quality is the helmet.

Didn't Joe Simon come up with the original sketch design before Kirby drew the book?

Original vision? You mean the one with the triangular shield, a cowl mask separate from the body costume, and stripes at the belly that stopped at his sides? That original vision lasted one whole issue before it got changed by issue #2.

While I do prefer a more traditional costume, I accept that artists in comics along with Hollywood costume designers are going to make their changes. If it is that upsetting to people, they might have to sit at home for this movie and skip it.

Me? I'm going to wait until I see the final movie before I praise it or blow my gasket.

I agree with you Atomic.  Sometimes change is neccessary. I love the costume in the comics (Eptings drawing are my favorite as of late)but for the big screen I think some adjustments will be fine.  We need to hope that Chris Evans can sell the suit that he is wearing.  I think it will come down to him and his acting.  These Marvel movies are too important to Marvel's future for them to blow it and disappoint us.  Having said that, they also must cater to the general public if they are going to make a successful superhero movie.  Non-comic readers might not embrace Cap's real uniform like we do.  Let's be realistic... it is a little hokey to run around in a flag (but Cap makes it cool because we love the character).  Although I love it, not everybody would.  Cap is my favorite.  Out of all my friends and relatives, I am the only person who reads comics.  Most of them definitely have the attitude that the flag is a little hokey. I think the costume will turn out fine for the movie but we'll need to wait and see.  As long as we get to hear him eventualls say "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE"!
